MDG America supplies bucket elevators for Drake Cement's Paulden cement plant upgrade
19 October 2022US: Bulk material handling equipment supplier MDG America says that it delivered four chain bucket elevators for Drake Cement's upgrade of its Paulden cement plant in Arizona. Drake Cement installed a new vertical mill grinding plant for cement, granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) and raw materials grinding at the 0.7Mt/yr integrated plant. The supplier says that two of the elevators will work in a pair, conveying material from a feeder belt, while a third will convey it to the new mill. The fourth elevator will then collect the material for further grinding and metal discharge.
Drake cement secured approval to mine pozzolan for use in the Paulden's plants cement production at Bill Williams Mountain earlier in October 2022. As part of minimising the future mine's impacts, Drake Cement has offered to help the US Forestry Service to thin local woodland as part of local anti-fire management efforts.
Eurocement to upgrade mill at Lipetskcement
21 September 2022Russia: Eurocement is investing over Euro3m towards upgrading a mill at its integrated Lipetskcement plant. The main work will add a separator to the mill. The addition will allow the unit to produce finer grades of cement and increase output by 20%. Work on the project started in September 2022 and is expected to be completed in early 2023.
Paraguay: Cementos Concepción (CECON) has started commissioning its new plant at San Lázaro in the Concepción department by grinding raw material. Alexander Gonzalez, the project manager for the plant, told La Nación newspaper that start-up of the unit had been successful and that the process would now continue along the production line. The plant’s kiln is expected to start operation in October 2022.
Pakistan: Germany-based Menzel Elektromotoren has revealed work on a replacement motor it has built for an unnamed cement plant in Pakistan. As part of the project it has designed a motor to fit a limited installation space that could drive the unit’s raw mill, another cement mill or a fan.
The engineering company’s solution was a compact slip ring motor in frame size 710 with the cooling system tailored to fit around a steel girder in the cement plant. To accommodate the existing couplings in two different sizes, Menzel designed the replacement motor with two shaft ends with different diameters. The motor output is configured to ensure efficient continuous operation in each of the three applications. The machine has a rated output of 4600kW and a rated voltage of 6300V. It complies with protection class IP55. At the customer's request, it was designed in cooling type IC 666, with permanent external ventilation of the inner and outer cooling circuit. Before delivery, Menzel also ran a load test in its in-house test field with the end-user attending via video streaming.
Germany: Christian Pfeiffer has launched its new FlexCore hardened rolled steel plates for ball mill diaphragms. With a hardness of 60HRC, the plates are wear and breakage resistant, enabling maintenance to be planned to the day, according to the supplier.
Schwenk Latvija commissions Broceni grinding plant
08 July 2022Latvia: Germany-based Christian Pfeiffer says that it has successfully commissioned the new Broceni grinding plant for Schwenk Latvija. The supplier said that the plant is able to produce cement up to a fineness of 5600 Blaine and is one of the most sustainable grinding plants in Europe.
Schwenk Latvija previously announced a planned investment of Euro34m in a new 170t/day mill and a 12,500t silo at the site of its former Broceni integrated cement plant.
Asia: FLSmidth says that it has won a contract to supply its low-NOx ILC preheater, an OK raw mill, an OK cement mill and other equipment to a cement plant in Asia. FLSmidth will deliver the equipment in 2023. The total value of the deal is US$56.1m.
FLSmidth’s cement industry president Carsten Riisberg Lund said "This project showcases FLSmidth’s ability to deliver energy efficient technologies across the full cement flowsheet, and thereby support our customers in both increasing capacity and their sustainability efforts.”
Dal Machinery & Design delivers new mill and drive to Holcim Azerbaijan’s Garadagh cement plant
04 July 2022Azerbaijan: Turkey-based Dal Machinery & Design has successfully delivered a ball mill and drive set to Holcim Azerbaijan’s Garadagh cement plant. The supplier says that the equipment will serve cement grinding operations at the plant.
Pakistan: Fauji Cement has ordered three MVR vertical roller mills from Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer for its upcoming Salar cement plant in Dera Ghazi Khan/Punjab Province. The supplier says that the order consists of a 520t/hr MVR 5600 R-4 mill for grinding raw materials and two 180t/hr MVR 5000 C-4 mills for cement grinding. China-based Hefei Cement will handle the order.
Zimbabwe: Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer says that a new MVR 3070 C-4 mill for cement grinding is due to be commissioned at Holcim Zimbabwe’s integrated plant at Manresa near Harare. The order was handled by the Chinese contractor CBMI.
The roof at the plant collapsed over a cement mill in October 2021 leading to a reduction in production volumes at the plant. The mills were restarted in February 2022 but one of the one of the existing cement ball mills was decommissioned. This mill is being replaced by the new vertical roller mill supplied by Gebr. Pfeiffer. It is expected to double the plant’s cement production capacity after it is commissioned in the second quarter of 2022.
