Ramco Cements inaugurates Gati Shakti cargo terminal
13 March 2024India: Ramco Cements has inaugurated the Gati Shakti cargo terminal at Jayanthipuram in Andhra Pradesh’s NTR District. The company will use the terminal for rail transport of raw materials over 8.3km from the Budawada limestone mines to its Jayanthipuram cement plant. The route will use electric trains.
The company said “Ramco Cements is glad to be a part of the Dedicated Freight Corridor under the Gati Shakti Mission.”
India: Shree Cement has ventured into the ready-mix concrete (RMC) sector by acquiring five plants in Mumbai from StarCrete. The company disclosed the purchase on 12 March 2024, with the plants having a combined capacity of 422m3/hr. The deal, valued at US$4.04m, marks a strategic expansion for Shree Cement.
Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director of Shree Cement, said “The strategic foray into the RMC segment is a step ahead in our vision to become a multi-product company centred around a core cement business. The RMC segment is expected to witness healthy growth, driven by government initiatives in large infrastructure projects and a booming housing construction sector.”
KLL expands operations in Varanasi and Madhya Pradesh
11 March 2024India: Kaushalya Logistics Limited (KLL) has initiated operations of a hub depot in Varanasi for JK Cement. The depot, operational since 1 March 2024, is a significant expansion for KLL, enabling it to cater to the entire Bihar region and reinforcing its presence in the cement industry. KLL has also announced the decision to begin operations of a depot for Adani Cement in Madhya Pradesh. This is expected to commence in early to mid-2024.
Uddhav Poddar, Managing Director of KLL, said "KLL has reached notable milestones, commencing operations at a new Hub depot in Varanasi exclusively for JK Cement, effective 1 March 2024. This move signifies a significant stride in KLL's commitment to excellence and strategic expansion within the cement logistics sector.”
India: UltraTech has installed floating solar photovoltaic panels at its Awarpur Cement Works plant on two water reservoirs, spanning 3600m2. The reservoirs contain 7600 panels in total, which will generate 6173MWh/yr of solar energy. This initiative will reduce CO2 emissions by 6000Mt/yr, equivalent to the sequestration benefits of 270,000 trees. The project enables UltraTech to use 100% of the generated power. Additionally, it will reduce water evaporation by up to 70% and has a minimal impact on local ecosystems.
India: Everest Industries is constructing a fibre cement boards and wall panels plant in Chamarajanagar district, Karnataka, with an investment of US$22.6m. The new facility, located on an 8.09 hectare plot in the Kellambali-Badanaguppe industrial area, will be operational later in March 2024. It will produce 72,000Mt/yr of fibre cement boards and 19,000Mt/yr of Rapicon wall panels. The company specialises in the production of fibre cement boards.
The plant is expected to generate 127 job opportunities.
India: Adani Group will invest US$603m in the construction of a 4Mt/yr clinker plant at Chorgadi and grinding plants in Dewas and Bhopal. The combined capacity will be 8Mt/yr. The move is part of a US$9bn investment which the company says will create 15,000 jobs across various sectors.
Rohith Chintawar appointed as Chief Digital Officer at Prism Johnson
28 February 2024India: Prism Johnson has appointed Rohith Chintawar as its Chief Digital Officer. Prior to this he worked as Head Digital Transformation at HIL. Earlier in his career he held positions in consulting and analysis for Hitachi Consulting and Deloitte.
India: Shree Cement has begun construction of two new 3.5Mt/yr cement plants at Etah and Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The Hindustan Times newspaper has reported that the projects represent the company’s delivery on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh government, that it signed in February 2023. The producer aims to reach 9Mt/yr in installed capacity in Uttar Pradesh by February 2026, with estimated investments of US$241m. It currently operates a 2Mt/yr integrated cement plant at Bulandshahr.
The company said "The company’s 3.5Mt/yr plant in Etah is expected to be operational in the next 12 months, while another 3.5Mt/yr plant will be set up in Prayagraj, targeting production commencement in 24 months."
UltraTech Cement commissions expanded Kotputli cement plant
23 February 2024India: UltraTech Cement has commissioned 1.8Mt/yr of new cement capacity at its Kotputli cement plant in Rajasthan. The expanded plant will help the producer to serve markets in Rajasthan and the National Capital Region. Projects Today News has reported that the expansion is part of a 22.6Mt/yr capacity growth drive, first announced in June 2022. The latest commissioning has raised UltraTech Cement’s all-India capacity by 1.3% to 137Mt/yr, and that in Rajasthan by 11% to 18.9Mt/yr.
JK Cement completes acquisition of Toshali Cements
22 February 2024India: JK Cement Ltd has completed the acquisition of a 100% stake in Toshali Cements. The parties concluded their agreement in June 2023, at which time the value of the deal was reportedly US$19m.
Toshali Cements operates a 200,000t/yr cement plant and a 435,000t/yr grinding plant, both in Odisha.
