ICICI Bank issues invocation of Jaiprakash Associates shares
16 November 2023India: ICICI Bank has made an invocation of Jaiprakash Associates’ shares in relation to its debts. The Economic Times newspaper has reported that the producer owes US$360m to the bank. ICICI Bank is part of a consortium of banks owed a total of US$3.52bn by Jaiprakash Associates.
Votorantim Cimentos to issue non-convertible debentures
15 November 2023Brazil: Votorantim Cimentos’ board of directors has approved the issuance of US$180m-worth of non-convertible debentures. The producer says that it will use funds raised thereby as collateral for a financial securitisation operation of real estate receivables.
Adani Group refinances loan for Holcim India acquisition
13 October 2023India: Adani Group has entered into a US$3.7bn refinance agreement with multiple banks to refinance the loan it took to acquire Holcim’s Indian business. Live Mint News has reported that the consortium of banks includes Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered, Barclays, Citibank, MUFG Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. Sources ‘with direct knowledge of the matter’ reported that the refinance agreement will have a tenure of 36 months.
West Africa: Ciments de l'Afrique (CIMAF) plans to produce limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) at cement plants in West Africa. Parent company Omnium des Industries et de la Promotion (OIP) plans to build a calcined clay production facility in Burkina Faso to supply the material. Gulf Oil & Gas News has reported that OIP secured a Euro45m loan from World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation on 10 October 2023. It will invest Euro32.4m in construction of its upcoming calcined clay production facility and Euro12.6m in
construction of solar power plants for three CIMAF subsidiaries in Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali.
CIMAF CEO Anas Sefrioui said "IFC's green loan provides essential long-term financing for our projects in Africa. Through the green loan structure, we are bringing the best practices in financing decarbonisation initiatives in the region. We look forward to reducing our carbon footprint and replicating these best practices in our African operations.”
Cemex seeks to refinance US$3bn bank debt
22 September 2023Mexico: Cemex says that it has entered negotiations with banks with a view to refinancing its US$3bn credit line. Bloomberg has reported that it previously financed the line in late 2021.
Cemex’s chief financial officer Maher Al-Haffar said that an anticipated 100% extension ‘will probably transform our maturity structure quite nicely.’
Brazil: Votorantim Cimentos has secured a US$150m loan from the International Finance Corporation for an upgrade to its Salto de Pirapora cement plant in São Paulo. The producer aims to increase the alternative fuel (AF) substitution rate at the 4.8Mt/yr plant, and reduce its CO2 emissions. It says that the loan is tied to sustainability performance indicators (SPIs), based on the reduction in the plant’s Scope 1 CO2 emissions.
Premier Cement Mills to more than double West Mukterpur grinding plant’s capacity with new mill
28 June 2023Bangladesh: Premier Cement Mills has installed an 11,000t/day vertical roller mill (VRM) at its West Mukterpur grinding plant in Munshiganj. The producer said that the expansion will more than double the grinding plant’s capacity to 7Mt/yr.
Energy & Power News has reported that Premier Cement Mills took a loan worth US$32.4m for the construction of the new mill.
Saudi Arabia: Southern Province Cement has secured a loan worth US$373m from Saudi National Bank. The loan will cover its construction of a 5000t/day production line at its upcoming Jizan cement plant, as well as the construction of infrastructure for a second new line of the same capacity at the plant. The producer appointed China-based Sinoma International Engineering to build the plant in May 2023.
Reuters has reported that the loan has a duration of 10 years and a two-year grace period.
India: Adani Group has reportedly entered discussions with five banks in a search to refinance US$3.8bn-worth of loans taken for its acquisition of Holcim India. The Economic Times newspaper has reported that the group aims to secure funding by mid-July 2023. Potential participants in the refinancing round reportedly include Malaysia and Taiwan-based banks, as well as existing lenders Barclays, Deutsche Bank and Standard Chartered.
Nigeria: BUA Cement plans to use loans worth US$500m towards the construction of two new 3Mt/yr cement plants in Sokoto State. When operational, the new plants will increase the producer's installed capacity by 55% to 17Mt/yr. Local press has reported that BUA Cement plans to run both cement plants using solar power, and to produce cement using alternative fuel (AF). Additionally, the producer will use a portion of the funding to replace part of its diesel-fuelled cement truck fleet with new natural gas-fuelled models.
Of a total US$500m in financing secured by BUA Cement on 5 June 2023, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) lent US$161m (32%) and African Development Bank, Africa Finance Corporation and the German Investment Corporation jointly lent US$245m (49%), with the remainder advanced by institutional investors.
