Big Boss Cement to launch in the Philippines
12 January 2018Philippines: SM Group heir Henry Sy Jr has launched Big Boss Cement with a group of investors. The new cement producer plans to start selling cement in March 2018, according to the Manila Bulletin newspaper. Its first product will be called ‘Big Boss Cement Type 1P.’
It has nearly completed a cement grinding plant that will have a production capacity of 1.5 million bags/yr at Porac in Pampanga. The company hopes to capture 3% of the estimated market demand for cement of 25Mt/yr. Big Boss Cement operates a laboratory in Metropolitan Manila.
Gebr. Seibel Erwitte cement plant rebrands within Thomas Gruppe
08 January 2018Germany: The former Portland-Zementwerke Gebr. Seibel’s cement plant at Erwitte in North Rhine-Westphalia has rebranded within the Thomas Gruppe. The name change follows the purchase of the plant and its limestone deposits by Thomas Gruppe in late 2017.
RHI Magnesita starts trading on London Stock Exchange
31 October 2017UK: RHI Magnesita has started trading on the London Stock Exchange (LSE). It has been admitted to trading in the premium segment of the main market on the LSE. The start of trading on the exchange marks the completion of the merger process between RHI and Magnesita.
“After the successful combination, RHI Magnesita is now fully dedicated to the strategic repositioning as the global leader in the refractory industry. With our 14,000 employees, we can drive positive change in our industry and aim to offer our customers an even greater value proposition in the future,” said Herbert Cordt, chairman of the board of directors of RHI Magnesita,
Following the merger the new company leads the refractory industry. It holds 35 raw material and production plants and more than 70 sales offices around the world and its product portfolio comprises more than 120,000 individual refractory products. It also operates two main research and development centres in Leoben, Austria and Contagem, Brazil.
As part of the merger process the company has also unveiled a new brand and logo to represent its global presence, its innovation and its company mind-set. The new logo and the visual system based on it consist of a horizontal eight, the symbol of infinity, and the shapes of refractory bricks.
Lion cement brand to launch in Cameroon in October 2017
04 September 2017Cameroon: Egin (Entreprise générale industrielle) plans to launch Lion brand cement in October 2017. The company signed an investment agreement with the government’s Investment Promotion Agency (API) in late Augut 2017, according to local press. Around US$15m has been invested in a production unit based in Douala. The site is expcted to employ 30 workers.
UltraTech Cement launches brand in Andhra Pradesh
03 August 2017India: UltraTech Cement has launched its brand in Andhra Pradesh following its acquisition of cement plants belonging to Jaiprakash Associates in June 2017. The cement producer said that its expansion is aligned to government infrastructure development targets, according to the Hindu newspaper. The move is intended to increase the company’s presence in the south of the country.
Brazil: LafargeHolcim has launched a marketing campaign for its Cimento Montes Claros cement brand in six states and the Federal District. The campaign is intended to increase brand recognition and improve its relationship with customers in Minas Gerais, Pernabuco, Bahia, Paraiba, Rio Grande do Notre, Goias and the Federal District, according to the Sags website. The campaign includes television and radio coverage, advertising on transport networks and social media spots. The campaign is planned to run until December 2017.
Hope Cement to rebrand as Breedon Cement
20 July 2017UK: Breedon Group will rename Hope Cement as Breedon Cement in August 2017. It said in its half-year report for 2017 that the acquisition of Sherburn’s import terminals had broadened its cement business and that it wanted to bring it all under one group brand.
“I am pleased to report that in the first half of 2017 the former Breedon Aggregates business posted a strong profit improvement and the former Hope Construction Materials business made a robust contribution, even after taking into account the shutdowns of both our cement kilns for planned annual maintenance and upgrade during the first half, which were completed on time and to budget,” said executive chairman Peter Tom. The construction materials group doubled its revenue in the first half of 2017 to Euro368m.
The company also said that it had completed the integration of the former Hope operations and all three divisions now use a common IT platform. It expects to deliver synergies of Euro11m in 2018, ahead of its original schedule.
Cambodia: Aidan Lynam, the chief executive officer of Chip Mong Insee Cement, expects that the Kampot cement plant will sell its first cement by the end of 2017. The US$262m plant is about to be commissioned, according to the Phnom Penh Post newspaper. A ramp-up period will then follow, with full production levels at the unit expected by the end of the first quarter of 2018. The subsidiary of Thailand’s Siam Cement Group has also launched the Camel Cement brand, which will be produced at the new plant.
Holcim Vietnam renamed as Siam City Cement Vietnam
02 March 2017Vietnam: Holcim Vietnam has been officially renamed as Siam City Cement Vietnam following its acquisition by Thailand’s Siam City Cement. Holcim products will now be sold locally under the Insee brand, according to the Saigon Times. An agreement for Siam City Cement to buy LafargeHolcim’s 65% stake in Holcim Vietnam was announced in August 2016.
Jagdamba Cement rebrands Ordinary Portland Cement product
22 February 2017Nepal: Jagdamba Cement said that it has rebranded its Jagdamba Ultra Premium OPC Cement product with new packaging and appointed Bhusal Dahal as its brand ambassador. The cement producer added in a statement that its products can now compete with any international product available in Nepal, according to the República newspaper. It added that it has received NS 49, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 9001:2015/ISO 14001:2015 certifications as well as letter of appreciation 2014 and 2015 in NS Quality Awards.
