India: The Indian government has published a list of 36 companies committed to supplying 9.5Mt of cement in 2015 for road building. The cement will be sold at a price below market rates with a fixed upper limit of US$2.70/bag. The Ministry has decided to build concrete cement roads in place of traditional bitumen roads as it views them as cost-effective and requiring less maintenance.
"After taking consent of the manufacturers we have put the list on a dedicated website, which any company or government agency can access to book their orders. Since the factories are spread all over the country, they can make the best choice. As per the contract, manufacturers can only reduce the price and increase their commitment to supply more cement," said road transport minister Nitin Gadkari. "Once the reduced price is out, it will have effect on other manufacturers and prices across companies may fall," he added.

Wikov Gear sends 120t gearbox to Spassk-Cement in Russia
05 November 2014Russia: Engineering company Wikov Gear will transport a 120t gearbox to a cement plant near Vladivostok, Russia, via road and ship by February 2015. It is the heaviest gearbox Wikov Gear has produced in over 100 years of existence, according to CEO Tomas Zrostlik. Lorries with the gearbox will leave Plzen, western Bohemia, in the middle of November 2014.
The biggest gearbox made by Wikov Gear thus far weighed 102t. It was made for Siemens, which was building a cement roller mill in South Korea. "Before that, we were producing special gearboxes which weighed 60 – 70t, in particular for roller mills' heavy operations," Zrostlik said. Some 80% of the company's portfolio is equipment weighing 20 – 25t.
The gearbox that is destined for Russia is 8m long, 5m high and 2.5m wide. It has been designed for 15 years of operation. The recipient is Spassk-Cement, of the private group Vostok Cement, which has three cement plants and supplies 95% of its output to Russia.
"We will load the equipment within three weeks. It will travel to Hamburg and then by ship via Shanghai. We expect it to arrive in 45 - 50 days," Zrostlik said. The gearbox will be in 25 boxes, the heaviest one weighing 45t. The assembly will start in March 2015 and the launch of its operation is planned for around 15 April 2015. Wikov Gear is also responsible for the assembly and online implemtnation.
Supplies for cement plants have made up 15% of Wikov Gear's turnover thus far, but the share is to rise up to 25% in 2015. The company also won an order from Lafarge in Germany in November 2014.
Caribbean Cement to start 240,000t Venezuelan shipment
28 October 2014Jamaica: Caribbean Cement Company Ltd (CCCL) has commenced supply of a new 240,000t clinker order to Venezuela. The US$20.5m contract will run over an 18-month period and will help boost export revenues from the Rockfort cement plant.
The new order from Caracas extends a previous agreement that saw CCCL ship 100,000t of clinker between December 2013 and April 2014 in a US$8.5m deal. The new contract is said to signal 'business as usual' at the works, which recently saw the replacement of Brian Young as board chairman by Christopher Dehring.
In September 2014, CCCL recorded clinker exports of 80,373t, compared to 6757t in September 2013. Cement exports also increased during the January – September 2014 period, from 178,643t in 2013 to 191,556t. In addition, CCCL noted a 10,000t rise in domestic sales to 458,644t as the construction market recovers.
"The recent trend in the domestic market is expected to continue as well as improvement in the export earnings," said Caribbean Cement's chairman Dehring and director Hollis Hosein.
"In addition, we have entered into a new agreement to supply 240,000t of clinker to Venezuela, starting shipments in October 2014. We, therefore, remain cautiously optimistic that these favourable results can be sustained."
Semen Indonesia orders silos from Claudius Peters
11 August 2014Indonesia: Claudius Peters has received an order from Semen Indonesia to supply three new cement storage silos for their new integrated cement plant in Rembang, Central Java.

Cement will be discharged to two mobile VME-type bulk loading stations underneath each silo. Separate aeroslide transport to the packing plant is also included. These three new cement storage silos will be integrated with the four new packing plants which Semen Indonesia ordered at the start of 2014 from Claudius Peters.
ThyssenKrupp to build 6000t/day cement plant in Algeria
04 March 2014Algeria: ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions has received an order to build a 6000t/day cement plant for Société des Ciments de Ain El Kebira (SCAEK), a subsidiary of Groupe Industriel des Ciments d'Algérie (GICA). The cement plant will be built in Ain El Kebira with start-up planned for 2016.
The order includes the supply of components for raw material processing, clinker manufacture and cement loading, the installation of a laboratory automation system for quality assurance and monitoring and the turnkey handover of the plant to the customer.
The key components are a 2000t/hr crusher for limestone and marl, a 500t/hr crusher for aggregates and a 50,000t capacity circular blending bed. Raw materials will be ground in two Polysius QUADROPOL QMR2 roller mills, with a throughput 350t/hr and a 30,000t homogenising silo will be used to store raw meal.
The kiln line comprises a five-stage, two-string PREPOL AS preheater, a 5.2 x 78m rotary kiln and a Polysius POLYTRACK cooler with intermediate crusher. Cement grinding will be carried out in three ball mills with high-efficiency SEPOL separators (5 x 14.5m, 6000kW central drive). Four storage silos each with a capacity of 20,000t of cement, four packaging lines, and six automatic and two manual loaders round out the plant. The Polysius POLAB laboratory automation system will be installed for quality monitoring and control.
Hazemag to supply crusher plant to Cemindo Gemilang
04 March 2014Indonesia: Hazemag & EPR has won a contract to supply a large crushing plant for a Sinoma International Engineering cement plant project on behalf of PT Cemindo Gemilang. The completed cement plant will have a production capacity of 10,000t/day and will be situated in Bayah, Java. Delivery of the plant is scheduled for the end of 2014.

The crusher is equipped with a GSK-rotor and a hydraulic impact apron support system HAZtronic®. The total plant capacity is 2500t/hr.
Cargotec to supply cement-handling equipment for Raysut Cement
22 January 2014Oman: Finnish handling system provider Cargotec Oyj has won a contract to deliver a Siwertell unloading and conveying system for Raysut Cement at Duqm and Sohar ports.
The order includes a road-mobile Siwertell 10 000 S unloader unit and a road-mobile Siwertell PumpMaster blow pump conveying unit and it also covers commissioning, supervision and spare parts. The combination of screw type unloader and blow pump conveyor provides low energy consumption of mechanical unloading due to pneumatic conveying.
The system has a conveying capacity of 300t/hr. "This is a particularly high value, considering that the distance from the unloader and blow pump unit to the silo top is 270m with an elevation of 40m," commented Peter Göransson, Siwertell Sales Manager.
In June 2013, Raysut Cement approved four expansion projects worth a total US$24m. One of these entails the construction of a cement terminal at Duqm Port, including two silos with a capacity of 4000t. The terminal is set to become operational in the second half of 2014. Another project envisages the establishment of a cement terminal at Somalia's Berbera Port, as a joint venture with an unnamed local partner. The facility will have three silos, each with a capacity of 4000t.
