Algeria exports over 0.5Mt to Europe

Algeria: The Algerian cement industry has exported over 0.5Mt of clinker to Europe as part of a shift to international markets. Samir Setiti, the president of Groupe des Ciments d’Algérie’s (GICA) Sodismac subsidiary, said that the company was currently transporting 15,000t of clinker from its Beni Safi plant to the Ivory Coast from the Port of Ghazaouet, according to the L’Expression newspaper. This is part of 15 export operations the cement producer has conducted since May 2018.

Sinoma International Engineering wins award for Biskria Cement project

China: Sinoma International Engineering has won a prize in the National Quality Engineering Awards organised by the China Construction Enterprise Management Association for its work on the Biskria Cement plant in Algeria. Sinoma supplied a second production line for the plant. It was commissioned in 2018.

GICA Group’s Hadjar Soud plant exports first clinker to Ivory Coast

Algeria: GICA Group’s Hadjar Soud cement plant has made its first 37,000t clinker shipment to the Ivory Coast via the Port of Annaba. It is part of a 0.2Mt/yr consignment planned for 2019 from the unit, according to the Algeria Press Service. Overall, GICA intends to export 1.5Mt of clinker to African countries in 2019.

LafargeHolcim Algeria exports 10,000t of white cement to South Africa

Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria has exported 10,000t of white cement to South Africa via the port of Oran to Cape Town. The consignment consists of its ‘Super White’ product from its Oggaz plant, according to the Algeria Press Service. The local subsidiary of LafargeHoclim operates two cement plants, at M’Sila and Oggaz respectively, and it runs a third plant at Biskra as a joint venture with Souakri Cilas Group.

La Société des Ciments de Tébessa produces 0.6Mt of cement in 2018

Algeria: La Société des Ciments de Tébessa produced 0.6Mt of cement in 2018. This compares to 0.53Mt in 2013, according to the Algeria Press Service. Company president Djamel Benhafid said that the cement producer has made environmental improvements, including installing new filters. It has also commissioned a sewage treatment unit to provide alternative fuels for its plant.

Aïn El-Kebira Cement Company wins Algerian Quality Award

Algeria: Aïn El-Kebira Cement Company has won the Algerian Quality Award for 2018. The government-issued award includes a prize of around Euro15,000, a trophy and a diploma of honour. The 1Mt/yr integrated cement plant is part of GICA Group, according to the El Moudjahid newspaper. The unit plans to start producing oil well cement in 2019. GICA Group exported 0.2Mt/yr of cement in 2018 and it plans to increase this to 0.8Mt/yr in 2019.

Jah Oil says it has enough cement to supply the Gambia

The Gambia: Sherif Faye, the operations manager of Jah Oil, says that the company has enough cement to supply The Gambia. He made the comment at a press event held in response to public outcry over a local cement shortage, according to the Point newspaper. The company has experienced delays to its inbound shipments due to poor weather in Europe. However, he confirmed that two ships carrying cement had recently arrived in the country.

The subsidiary of Jah Group sells its Tiger Cement 42.5 grade brand product in 50kg bags. The cement is imported from Spain and Algeria and bagged locally. Jah Oil has a bagging capacity of 108,000 bags/day.

El-Hamel Sidi Moussa starts exporting cement to Niger

11 February 2019

Algeria: El-Hamel Sidi Moussa group’s Timegten cement plant has made its first 2000t export to Niger. The Chinese-Algerian joint venture used the Freight Transport and Logistics Group (Logitrans) to make the delivery overland via the In-Guezzam border crossing, according to Radio Algeria. The 1.2Mt/yr plant plans to target other countries, including Mali, Mauritania and Burkina Faso.

The Euro156m plant was commissioned in 2017. It is being run under a seven-year cooperation agreement where the Chinese partners manage the unit until the local workforce is trained. The plant also manufactures oil well cement.

Algeria targets cement exports of US$500m by 2023

Algeria: Youcef Yousfi, the Minister of Industry and Mines, says that the government is aiming for cement exports worth US$500m by 2023. This is based on a surplus of 10 – 15Mt of cement by this time, according to Télévision Algérienne. Cement exports reached 1Mt in 2018. This is expected to grow to 2Mt soon with 1.2Mt supplied by GICA Group.

Aïn Touta Cement buys filter for plant

Algeria: The Aïn Touta Cement (SCIMAT) plant near Batna has spent US$10m on a new filter. The investment is part of a group of improvements intended to increase production at the unit in 2019, according to Le Courrier d'Algérie newspaper. The company is also implementing a new integrated administration system.
