Philcement commissions 2.0Mt/yr integrated plant and port facilities

Philippines: Phinma Corp.’s cement subsidiary Philcement has ramped up its return to production with the commissioning of a 2.0Mt/yr integrated cement plant with attached terminal facilities in the port of Bataan. The Philippine Star has reported that the company, whose six integrated plants had a majority market share in the country prior to the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997, has invested US$100m on its re-entry to production, including on the Bataan facility, since it announced the return of its Union cement brand to the market in 2018.

Phinma Corp. president and CEO Ramón del Rosario said, “We believe in this government’s ‘Build Build Build’ program and we want to help ensure the success of this program by augmenting supply and offering the highest quality cement to support critical projects.”

Phinma Corp. is among domestic producers awaiting the result of an appeal by the country’s importers against the legality of the government’s safeguard duty on imported cement.

Cemex receives Port of Gijón terminal concession

Spain: The Port Authority of Gijón granted Cemex España a 30-year concession for use of 2480m2 of the El Musel terminal for unloading, storage and bagging on 20 December 2019, subject to the Mexican company’s use of the facilities for a minimum of 50,000t/yr of cement and derived products for the first two years of the arrangement, 0.1Mt/yr for the subsequent three years, and 0.15Mt/yr thereafter. La Nueva España newspaper has reported that Cemex España applied for the concession in February 2019. Its plans consist of a Euro5.0m investment in a development including two 6000t-capacity silos, a 44m crane and bagging facilities. Cemex España will take an estimated 10 months to complete the works from beginning the project in early 2020.

LafargeHolcim supplies 10,000t of cement for Brest expansion

15 November 2019

France: LafargeHolcim has fulfilled its contract with the Port of Brest for the delivery of 10,000t of cement and almost 0.17Mt of draining sand by sea to the port in the Département of Brittany. A Euro220m project has been underway since 2016 for expansion and diversification of the port’s handling capacity, with completion scheduled for 2020. LafargeHolcim says that it proposed specific construction solutions for use of its materials in improving the accessibility of Brest’s existing wharves and building a new ‘heavy’ wharf.

Cementos Tudela Veguín’s Gijón terminal ready for commissioning ahead of schedule

Spain: Cementos Tudela Veguín’s new cement terminal on the El Musel North Pier of the Port of Gijón is fully constructed and licenced for operation. The terminal will serve for the reception and storage of 0.7Mt/yr of clinker for the company’s Narón grinding plant in La Coruña.

Afcham China National Consortium Material Company eyes Cameroon for 0.5Mt/yr integrated cement plant

Cameroon: The Chinese-based Afcham China National Consortium Material Company has signed a memorandum with the Kribi Industrial Cement Plant Company (CmIKri) for the construction of an integrated cement plant with a capacity of over 0.5Mt/yr, and the possibility of an extension to 1.5Mt/yr, in the port of Kribi. The installation, spanning 30ha, will include shipping facilities and an 18,000t clinker silo, and cost US$60m.

Tarmac partners with Port of Tilbury for construction of UK’s largest materials aggregates terminal

29 October 2019

UK: Tarmac has announced plans for the construction of a materials terminal including aggregate processing and manufacturing facilities at the Thames’ new Tilbury2 port in Essex. The terminal will be able to receive vessels of up to 0.1Mt. Tarmac and the Port of Tilbury will develop the site from late 2019, ending in the establishment of operations before 2021.

South Texas Cement receives Siwertell unloader

29 October 2019

US: Bruks Siwertell, the producer and installer of conveying and storage systems for cement and other dry bulk materials, has delivered a fully-assembled Siwertell ST 640-M, the screw-type ship unloader to South Texas Cement’s Corpus Christi port terminal. The suppliers have announced that they await clearance from South Texas Cement and GCCM Holdings to commence testing and commissioning of the turnkey installation, which the latter ordered in September 2018. Bruks Siwertell rates the cement handling capacity of unloaders of the ST 640-M type at 1500t/hr.

Anchorage Port Commission seeks petrol tariff increase to support cement terminal repairs

24 October 2019

US: The restoration of Anchorage Petroleum Cement Terminal in Alaska to fully functioning docking capabilities for oil well cement offloading operations after its ruin in an earthquake of 30 November 2018 will cost US$81m. At a special meeting on 23 October 2019, the port Commission voted to petition the Anchorage Assembly for a progressive tariff increase on all petroleum imports over 10 years to US$399/t from US$116/t.

The works are scheduled for completion by January 2021, with the possibility of a reduction in the rate of tariff increase subject to grants received from the state.

Raysut Cement signs deal with Port of Duqm for grinding plant

23 September 2019

Oman: Raysut Cement, Oman’s leading cement producer, has taken a step forward in the implementation of its 1Mt/yr Duqm grinding plant plans by securing a land lease and port of terminal services agreement from the Port of Duqm. Raysut chief executive Joey Ghose has said that the Duqm unit will help to secure Raysut’s presence ‘in Oman and the neighbouring Gulf markets,’ as well as support strategic investments oversees. Raysut’s 6.4Mt/yr integrated capacity extends from East Africa to the Caucasus. The company has India as its next phase expansion target.

FYM-HeidelbergCement launches clinker conveyor at Port of Malaga

30 July 2019

Spain: FYM-HeidelbergCement has launches a new clinker conveyor at the Port of Malaga. The new Euro2.5m project started by loading 4800t of clinker onto a ship bound for Ireland. The conveyor will continue to be tested in August 2019 with 30,000DWT and 40,000DWT vessels. The enclosed conveyor has a load capacity of 650t/hr. the project also included setting up two storage areas in the Pescadería area of the city.
