Lafarge Polska launches Aggneo recycled aggregate

22 June 2021

Poland: Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim subsidiary Lafarge Polska has launched Aggneo, a recycled aggregate recycled from demolition-sourced concrete. The producer says that Aggneo offers high consistency and a lower density than mined aggregates, resulting in material savings. Besides reducing waste, the product also lowers the carbon footprint of delivery by 66%, according to the company. The building materials producer aims to manufacture 1Mt/yr of recycled aggregated by 2030.

Cemex promotes Vertua admixtures range in the UK

Mexico/UK: Cemex has promoted its Vertua admixtures in the UK, with the launch of next generation products in the range. The producer says that Vertua admixtures used in conjunction with its grinding aids, cement enhancers, super plasticisers and accelerators further reduce the carbon footprints of these products. It called green admixtures a ‘fundamental enabler of key innovations’ which will accelerate sustainable urbanisation.

Europe, Middle East and Africa regional urbanisation solutions vice president Marcelo Catalá said, “Cemex’s Vertua range of next generation admixtures, together with our broader array of low carbon, resource-efficient urbanisation solutions, will contribute considerably to building alongside our customers a better and more sustainable future for the cities in which we live.”

Giatec launches SmartMix concrete mixing software product

Canada: Testing specialist Giatec has launched SmartMix, a web-based software product for concrete ingredient optimisation. It is intended to help concrete users lower their cement construction for jobs. The supplier estimates that the tool could lower the CO2 emissions of concrete production by 400Mt/yr, the equivalent carbon footprint of 110m cars.

Head of research and development Andrew Fahim said, “Artificial intelligence (AI), machine-learning algorithms and advanced analytics on construction jobsites are going to pave the path forward for our industry to meet increasing infrastructure demands. I am proud to provide contractors and producers AI tools to make impactful decisions and get ahead of the competition by bringing more value to their customers while reducing the carbon impact of their products.”

CIMAF Gabon launches 32.5 grade cement product

09 June 2021

Gabon: Ciments d'Afrique (CIMAF) has launched a 32.5 grade of cement intended for masonry work. Local dignitaries, including government minister Pascal Houangni Ambourouet, Owendo mayor Jeanne Mbagou and Moroccan ambassador Abdellah Sbihi, attended the launch event, according to the Gabon Review. The subsidiary of Morocco based CIMAF already sells a 42.5 grade product on the local market for larger structures.

Ambuja Cement launches Ambuja Cool Walls concrete block

India: LafargeHoclim subsidiary Ambuja Cement has launched Ambuja Cool Walls, a product consisting of its aerated pre-cast concrete blocks. The producer says that Cool Walls have improved strength compared to walls made of brick. They also increase buildings’ insulation, according to the producer.

Heracles Group obtains environmental product declarations for cement range

Greece: Heracles Group, part of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim, has obtained environmental product declarations (EPDs) for all cements produced at its Volos and Milaki cement plants. The company says that the declarations cover both bagged and bulk products.

Chief executive officer Dimitris Chanis said, “For 110 years, at Heracles Group we have learned to always push the limits of the seemingly possible, pioneer and constantly move forward. Driven by our unwavering priority of sustainable development and our vision regarding the green transformation of the construction sector, we strategically design and develop policies and initiatives that promote a climate neutral and circular economy. EPDs are expected to play a key part in our group's effort to move towards more sustainable construction for a greener and better world for all.”

LafargeHolcim Bangladesh launches new Supercrete Portland limestone cement bag

Bangladesh: LafargeHolcim Bangladesh has unveiled its Supercrete Portland limestone cement (PLC) bag redesign. The new bag features the tagline ‘Top quality, proper construction’ in Bengali. The Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim subsidiary produces the cement with limestone from Meghalaya, India. It says that its product is the only PLC on the Bangladeshi market.

Mostazafan Foundation companies begins production of oil well cement

Iran: Hashem Nezamabadi, the managing director of Kaveh Pars Mining Industries Development Company, says that the Mostazafan Foundation and its subsidiaries have started production of oil well cement. Subsequently the country will no longer need to import this type of cement, according to the Trend News Agency. The specialist cement will be used to support the country’s oil industry.

Cemex España launches Vertua low-carbon cement

26 May 2021

Spain: Cemex España, part of Mexico-based Cemex, has launched a new CEM-II grey cement with approximately 20% reduced-CO2 direct emissions as part of its Vertua low-carbon product range. The company says that the product provides early strength like a CEM-I cement. It says that this makes it highly suited to precast concrete and infrastructure applications. Cemex says that it will launch the product in other European markets in 2021.

Cemex is committed to 55% emissions reduction by 2030. It said that prior to this commitment it, “had already achieved a close to 35% emissions reduction by 2020.”

Titan America launches ProAsh and EcoTherm reclaimed ash products in the US

12 May 2021

US: Titan America, part of Greece-based Titan Group, has launched ProAsh and EcoTherm. Both products are made from ash reclaimed from landfill and can be used in both cement and concrete production. Titan America subsidiary Separation Technologies produces the materials at its Brunner Island reclaimed ash drying and electrostatic separation plant in Pennsylvania.

President and chief executive officer Bill Zarkalis said, “This breakthrough achievement represents Titan America’s commitment to the reduction of CO2 through innovation as we plan to deploy this technology across the construction material sector.” He added “By harnessing the power of this technology, Separation Technologies is utilising a revolutionary beneficiation process that is capable of converting reclaimed ash from ash basins in an efficient manner. The result is a high-grade, low carbon construction product.”
