Iran: Hashem Nezamabadi, the managing director of Kaveh Pars Mining Industries Development Company, says that the Mostazafan Foundation and its subsidiaries have started production of oil well cement. Subsequently the country will no longer need to import this type of cement, according to the Trend News Agency. The specialist cement will be used to support the country’s oil industry.

Spain: Cemex España, part of Mexico-based Cemex, has launched a new CEM-II grey cement with approximately 20% reduced-CO2 direct emissions as part of its Vertua low-carbon product range. The company says that the product provides early strength like a CEM-I cement. It says that this makes it highly suited to precast concrete and infrastructure applications. Cemex says that it will launch the product in other European markets in 2021.

Cemex is committed to 55% emissions reduction by 2030. It said that prior to this commitment it, “had already achieved a close to 35% emissions reduction by 2020.”

US: Titan America, part of Greece-based Titan Group, has launched ProAsh and EcoTherm. Both products are made from ash reclaimed from landfill and can be used in both cement and concrete production. Titan America subsidiary Separation Technologies produces the materials at its Brunner Island reclaimed ash drying and electrostatic separation plant in Pennsylvania.

President and chief executive officer Bill Zarkalis said, “This breakthrough achievement represents Titan America’s commitment to the reduction of CO₂ through innovation as we plan to deploy this technology across the construction material sector.” He added “By harnessing the power of this technology, Separation Technologies is utilising a revolutionary beneficiation process that is capable of converting reclaimed ash from ash basins in an efficient manner. The result is a high-grade, low carbon construction product.”

Germany: ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions has launched GooVi, a digitised vibrating screen with an ‘intelligent’ control system. The supplier says that the screen offers increased efficiency, reduced weight and height. It combines the control system with a new patented drive technology. The product’s name plays on the title of the Beach Boys’ 1967 hit song Good Vibrations.

Head of product line screens and feeders Achim Schönfelder said, “With the GooVi, all vibration modes (circular, linear and elliptical) can be realised in one machine, allowing flexible adaptation to changing job requirements and material properties. In addition, the low height of the GooVi facilitates simple installation in existing plants.”

US: The Conveyor Components Company has launched its new Model BSD belt speed sensor. The unit has overspeed, underspeed and zero speed control settings and can shut down rotating equipment to stop damage. It can be used with various controllers. The supplier says that the sensor’s ain advantages are drilling-free installation and flexibility as to location.

Germany: Holcim Deutschland, part of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim, has launched its new ECOPlanet Zero carbon neutral cement. The producer says that it will offset the product’s CO₂ emissions through a peatland rewetting service provided by MoorFutures. The cement also has a low clinker factor due to the use of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS)-enriched binders.

Cement and binders sales director Matthias von der Brelje said “Holcim has been reducing the specific CO₂ emissions of binders very effectively for decades by using high-quality GGBFS.” He added, “In the future, we want to work with planners, contracting agencies and users to further advance the use of our CO₂-reduced binders. This helps our customers to realise their vision of sustainable building even better. In terms of product technology, the ECOPlanet series also has outstanding - and in some cases even better - properties than Portland cements, for example good workability, light colour, favourable heat development and high fatigue strength.”

Mexico: Holcim Mexico, part of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim, has launched the new EcoEtiquetas label. The label designates products conforming to a set of ecological criteria set by the company. These include a certain level of recycled content or a reduced carbon footprint, as specified by the label on each product. The label is now found on Holcim Apasco, Maestro and Supra Cemento cement bags. These products say they offer CO₂ reductions from 30 – 60% compared to Ordinary Portland Cement.

Chief executive officer Jaime Hill Tinoco said, “This is one more step on our way to becoming a Net Zero Company, but also when our clients buy our cements with EcoEtiquetas, they will have the certainty that they are collaborating in the care of the environment by using or distributing products that have been thought not only in terms of quality and performance, but also in ensuring a better world for present and future generations.”

Philippines: Holcim Philippines, part of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim, has announced the launch of its new Holcim Aqua X concrete. The product contains ‘active water-repellent boosters’ giving it increased resistance to water damage.

The BusinessWorld newspaper has reported that president and chief executive officer Horia-Ciprian Adrian said that Aqua X ‘highlights our great advantage in developing exciting products.’ He added that the product outperforms other concretes on environmental indicators due to its low clinker factor.

Germany: Beumer has enlarged its stake in logistics software provider Codept. The company’s product offers warehouse management and fulfilment throughout Europe. The start-up company was founded with the support from the Berlin-based, autonomous company builder Beam, a spin-off of Beumer Group

Managing Director Felix Ostwald said "We are happy to seal a long-term partnership with Beumer. During the past two years we have cooperated successfully and are therefore glad to intensify this cooperation."

Russia: SibCem subsidiary Iskitimcement has added an eighth cement to its product line. The company has launched production of a CEM-I special Portland cement for use in roads and airstrips. It says that the product produces concrete with increased resistance to aggressive media, frost and water resistance and strength, lower heat generation during hardening and longer service life than concrete produced with Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC).

Managing Director Vladimir Skakun said, “Considering that the strategy for the development of the building materials industry until 2030 provides for an increase in the share of cement-concrete roads in the total volume of new roads in the country to 50%, we are preparing to increase the demand for road cements.” He added, “The development of a new type of product is another step in matching consumers’ changing needs.”
