Cemex sells Fairborn cement plant to Eagle Materials
13 September 2016US: Cemex has signed a definitive agreement for the sale of its 1Mt/yr Fairborn, Ohio cement plant, a cement terminal in Columbus, Ohio and a cement bagging operation to Eagle Materials for US$400m. Cemex will use the proceeds of the sale to reduce its debts and for general corporate purposes. The closing of the deal is subject to regulatory approval. The divestiture is expected to be completed during the fourth quarter of 2016.
"Our strategy has been to grow the cement side of our business. The Fairborn plant extends our US cement system and connects but does not overlap with the market reach of our existing plants. This high-quality cement plant is a compelling fit with our strategic objectives and our criteria for new investment. These assets will allow us to participate more fully in the US construction industry and further positions the company in target US heartland growth markets," said Dave Powers, Eagle Materials President and Chief Executive Officer.
NTPC’s power plant sets up bagging machines for fly-ash
16 October 2014India: In response to local concerns over the open-filling of fly-ash, an NTPC-owned thermal power plant in Kahalgaon, Bihar will install bagging machines for its fly-ash production. The facility provides fly-ash to cement makers in the northeast and is setting up six packing machines filling a total of 4800bags/hr or 4000t/day. The facility had been warned by the pollution control board, which has asked NTPC to deposit US$16,243 as security against the prescribed environmental measures. The board has said that the plant will be closed if it continues to violate the 'norms' by open-filling the sacks.
UK: The bulk handling company Flexicon has announced a new Ultra-Heavy-Duty Bulk Bag Filling System, which palletises and fills bulk bags with filter cake, aggregates, metal powders, abrasive minerals, dry chemical additives and other difficult-to-handle bulk materials like cement and gypsum.
The system integrates a Swing-Down® Bulk Bag Filler with a Flexicon Pallet Dispenser and Powered Chain Conveyor, allowing safe, high-capacity filling of bulk bags of all popular sizes, including bags with wide-diameter spouts for the passage of irregular materials. The system is offered with Flexicon's steel-tube flexible screw conveyor integrated with the user's upstream process equipment or other material source.
Sri Lanka: Work on a Thatta Cement project in Sri Lanka has ended because the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) has not yet executed the Land Lease Agreement (LLA). Basic engineering for the cement grinding, storing and bagging plant has been completed but the project has been suspended pending legal issues.
Thatta Cement secretary Taha Hamdani has complained to capital market regulators about the SLPA also signing an agreement with another company whose operational area lies close to its cement project. It appears to obstruct setting up of the cement project within the layout originally planned by the SLPA. The company officials say further progress on the project would recommence 'as soon as LLA is signed with SLPA'.
