Cameroon: Ciments de l'Afrique (CIMAF) has agreed with the Cameroon Investment Promotion Agency (CIPA) to invest US$33m in its integrated plant at Douala. The subsidiary of Morocco’s Addoha Group plans to triple the plant’s production capacity to 1.5Mt/yr, according to Business in Cameroon magazine. The unit was originally commissioned in 2014.

Nigeria: Dangote Cement plans to open terminals at Lagos and Port Harcourt to export clinker to its grinding plants in West Africa. Chairman Aliko Dangote made the announcement at the company’s annual general meeting, according to the Punch newspaper. At present it exports 1Mt/yr, although it could export up to 8Mt/yr to generate up to US$700m in revenue. Group chief executive officer (CEO) Joseph Makoju it is a ‘major priority’ for Dangote Cement to replace non-African imports in Cameroon, increase foreign revenue and raise the capacity utilisation of its Nigerian plants.

Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria has made two new export shipments from the Port of Oran. The first was a consignment of 15,000t of bulk grey cement from its Oggaz cement plant to West Africa, according to the El Moudjahid newspaper. The second was a dual consignment of 5000t of white clinker and 25,000t of grey clinker from the same plant to Cameroon. The cement producer said that the white clinker export was the first of its kind from Algeria.

Algeria: Ciment Lafarge Souakri (CILAS) has started exporting a consignment of 30,000t of cement to Cameroon. The operation was handled via the port of Annaba, according to Radio Algeria. It is the cement producer’s sixth large-scale export operation to another Africa country. The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim is using Lafarge Trading to supply logistical support.

Cameroon: Cimencam has inaugurated its 0.5Mt/yr Nomayos cement grinding plant. The company also launched a new logo, according to the Ecofin Agency. The new unit will manufacture the company’s MultiX CEM II 32.5 R Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) and its Sublime white cement products.

The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim is planning to regain lost market share in the country since Dangote Cement started operating locally. It is planning to build a new kiln at its Figuil integrated plant in Garoua, which is due for commissioning in 2020.

Cameroon: The electricity supply in parts of central and southern Cameroon has been disrupted whilst a substation at Nomayos near Yaoundé is connected to the main network. The disruption is necessary ahead of the commissioning of Cimencam’s Nomayos cement grinding plant, which is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019, according to Business in Cameroon. The new plant will have a production capacity of 0.5Mt/yr. It has an investment of around US$40m.

Cameroon: Cimencam has assured Ernest Gbwaboubou, the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, that the first bag of cement will be despatched from the Nomayos grinding plant in the first quarter of 2019. The comments were made during a visit by Gbwaboubou to the unit, according to Business in Cameroon magazine. The minister also noted that the compensation process for residents affected by a power line to the plant had yet to be completed.

The new plant will have a production capacity of 0.5Mt/yr. The project has an investment of around US$40m. The plant will source pozzolans from a quarry at Foumbot.

Cameroon: Benoît Galichet has been appointed as the director general of Cimencam. He succeeds Pierre Damnon, according to the Agence de Presse Africaine. Galichet, a French national, is aged 47 years. He will oversee the commissioning of the cement producer’s new cement grinding plant at Nomayo and the continued promotion of the company’s ‘Multi-X’ cement product.

LafargeHolcim holds a 55% stake in Cimencam, the government holds a 43% stake and employees hold the remaining 2% share.

Cameroon: Cimencam, a subsidiary of LafargeHolcim, plans to start producing cement at its new Nomayos grinding plant in early 2019. The 0.5Mt/yr unit had an investment of US$41m, according to Agence Ecofin. Once the new plant is completed Cimencam will have a production capacity of 2Mt/yr in the country.

Cameroon: Engineering Construction Manufacturing and Trading plans to build a new 0.5Mt/yr cement plant. The project has an investment of US$27m, according to the Agence de Presse Africaine. The local company has signed an agreement with the Investment Promotion Agency to build the plant. It enables it to receive customs and tax breaks as part of the deal.
