Concrete Sustainability Council awards Gold certification to Dyckerhoff’s seven German cement plants
19 April 2021Germany: Italy-based Buzzi Unicem subsidiary Dyckerhoff has received Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC) Gold certification for all seven of its German cement plants. All 10 of its concrete plants also received Gold certification. The company’s seven cement plants previously received Silver certification from the CSC in 2018. It said that it was especially pleased with its latest achievement giving the more rigorous checks under the certification body’s updated 2.1 version.
Ministry of Industry and Information Technology names Huaxin plant site of National Industrial Heritage
02 January 2020China: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has included Huaxin’s former Huangshi integrated cement plant site on its third annual National Industrial Heritage (NIH) list. The site includes three wet kilns, a warehouse, a bagging facility, slurry tanks and stone dumps. 49 disused sites from various industries were listed for NIH status, which ensures state-funded preservation and protection from demolition, on 26 December 2019.
Eurocement’s Akhangarancement plant upgrade to consist of 3Mt/yr capacity expansion
09 December 2019Uzbekistan: Russia’s Eurocement has revealed that construction work underway at its 2.0Mt/yr integrated Akhangarancement cement plant in Tahskent region includes the installation of a second plant on the site, bringing its total capacity to 5.0Mt/yr. Trend News Agency has reported that suppliers have delivered 4500t of machinery to Akhangarancement, including a clinker refrigerator, clinker conveyor and heat exchanger as well as electrical equipment and building materials for a raw materials warehouse. Eurocement’s total investment in the project has amounted to US$200m.
Eurocement Group Holding International president Mikhail Skorohod said, “Taking into account the growing needs of the Uzbek market in building materials, Eurocement is committed to creation of a building materials cluster based around the Akhangarancement plant.” The company said that the upgraded 5.0Mt/yr plant would become operational in 2020.
UltraTech Cement plans WHR power plant expansion
04 December 2019India: UltraTech Cement has announced a planned expansion of its Bhogasamundram waste heat recovery (WHR) power plant to 36MW from 20MW. The plant serves its 5.6Mt/yr integrated Andhra Pradesh cement plant. The upgrade is part of an investment of US$14.0m which will also serve to expand the area of the cement plant by 326 hectares.
Pakistan court rejects petitions against FWO Haripur cement plant
04 December 2019Pakistan: The Peshawar High Court has rejected a petition by local residents to prevent the construction of a US$245m cement plant in Haripur by the military Frontier Works Organisation. The Balochistan Times has reported that the project will entail the relocation of people from an area of 0.66km2 and the felling of ‘thousands of trees.’ The Supreme Court gave a preliminary hearing to the case on 2 December 2019, giving the Attorney General, Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Defence Ministry until 9 December 2019 to submit their replies.
CKI Holdings cement plant launches production
17 December 2013China: CKI Holdings has announced that the cement plant owned by its subsidiary, Green Island Cement, has officially commenced production. The cement plant is located in Yunfu city, Guangdong province and the total investment was US$1.3bn.
Lambert Leung, chief of materials division at CKI Holdings, stated that the group might invest another US$600m to build a second production line if the operating performance is satisfactory.
