Cimenteries du Cameroun launches construction of new 0.5Mt/yr line at Figuil cement plant
20 October 2021Cameroon: Cimenteries du Cameroun has begun building a new US$88.4m 0.5Mt/yr line at its 0.15Mt/yr Figuil cement plant. Agence Ecofin News has reported that the line is scheduled for commissioning in October 2023. It will have an additional clinker capacity of 0.1Mt/yr. When commissioned, the expanded plant will serve northern Cameroon, Chad and the Central African Republic, and bring the company's total cement capacity to 2.5Mt/yr.The LafargeHolcim Maroc Afrique subsidiary, in which the Cameroon National Investment Company (SNI) holds a minority stake, aims to compete with market leader Dangote Cement in Cameroon.
Central African Republic: Cameroon’s Quiferou has signed a deal with the government to produce cement. Quiferou plans to produce 0.35Mt/yr of cement locally, according to the African Press Agency. The project will be situated at Bomoko in the south west of the country.
Cimencam upgrading Figuil cement plant
06 June 2018Cameroon: Cimencam will spend US$70m to upgrade its integrated plant at Figuil. A new kiln is being built at the plant to meet increased demand from export markets in Chad and the Central African Republic, according to the Cameroon Tribune newspaper. The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim is also building a cement grinding plant at Nomayos.
Central African Republic: Two cement plant builders have been killed accidentally by French troops in Bangui in Central African Republic (CAR). The bodies of one Indian and one Nepalese national have been sent to Gabon in a French Military aircraft for repatriation, according to Indian media. In addition, six injured Indian nationals, who were flown to Chad, have been reported as stable.
The dead workers were employed by MIs Jaguar Overseas to build a cement plant in the capital of CAR. A release from the company said that about 100 employees of the company were currently stationed at the plant. It stated that the regional stabilisation force in Bangui, as well as the French forces, had been visiting the plant to reassure employees of their safety. The release added that there had been visible improvement in the situation, with local staff returning to work and utilities restarted.
Central African Republic: 92 Indian nationals are reportedly trapped at a cement plant in Bangui, the capital city of Central African Republic (CAR), which is witnessing massive unrest.
"Most of those trapped in violence are labourers from India who have gone to CAR for employment. Those trapped in the cement factory need help to reach a safe location," said Sunil Dhairiyani, manager Waheguru Travels' Cameroon branch in an interview with the Times of India. Rebels known as Seleka have taken control of the national capital and media in the former French colony with a pledge to topple President Francois Bozize who has fled the country.
