Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria’s Oggaz cement plant has been awarded ISO 14001:2015 certification for environmental management, according to the El Watan newspaper. The plant has a total cement production capcaity of 3.8Mt/yr, comprising 3.2Mt/yr of gray cement and 0.6Mt/yr of white cement. The unit also has a waste treatment facility.
US: Cemex USA’s Clinchfield Cement Plant in Georgia has been awarded the ISO 14001:2015 certification for its environmental management system (EMS). It is the first Cemex cement operation in the country to earn this certification. The EMS at the plant follows a continuous cycle of environmental policy: planning, support and operation, performance evaluation, then improvement.
The International Organization of Standardisation (ISO) developed ISO 14001:2015 as a standard of processes for organisations to use when setting up, improving or maintaining their environmental management systems to follow established environmental policies and requirements. The guidelines are designed to help organisations improve efficiency, reduce waste, improve overall environmental impact and manage environmental obligations.
The Clinchfield Cement Plant is also one of several Cemex sites to achieve certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council. The plant is also active in the Georgia Black Bear Project. Cemex is currently in the process of achieving ISO 14001:2015 Certification at its eight other active cement plants in the US.
Aggregate Industries achieves ISO 44001 certification
22 March 2019UK: Aggregate Industries, a subsidiary of LafargeHolcim, has achieved recommendation for ISO 44001 certification for Collaborative Business Relationship Management Systems, awarded by the British Standards Institute. The certification was awarded company-wide to Aggregate Industries for demonstrating relationship management across a variety of projects, which include a multitude of internal business areas and external partners.
“I am incredibly proud of achieving this certification. ISO 44001 is quickly becoming a prerequisite for highways, infrastructure and major projects which specify requirements for the effective identification, development and management of collaborative business relationships,” said Paddy Murphy, Managing Director of Contracting at Aggregate Industries.
Sino-Zimbabwe Cement gains ISO certification
28 August 2018Zimbabwe: Sino-Zimbabwe Cement (SZC) has been granted certification by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). The company says that ISO certification will make its products attractive to compete on the international market, according to the Herald newspaper. SCZ produces three types of cement: MC 22.5 X, PC 32.5 N and 42.5N. Most of the cement is consumed by the Zimbabwean market, with a small amount exported to neighbouring countries. The company plans to produce PC 42.5R later in 2018 to target local infrastructure projects.
The cement producer’s 0.3Mt/yr Gweru plant was built in the 1990s in a joint-venture between China National Building Material Company (CNBM) and the Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe.
Medcem Çimento obtains ISO certification

HarbisonWalker International obtains ISO certification for refractory plants in Georgia and Kansas
29 March 2018US: HarbisonWalker International has obtained ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Thomasville monolithic and precast refractory plant in Georgia and its South Shore refractory brick plant in Kansas. The refractory manufacturer now plans to achieve the new ISO standard at the rest of its plants by the end of 2018.
Germany: Schade Lagertechnik has achieved re-accreditation under the international quality management system ISO 9001, as well as under the environmental standard ISO 14001 and the occupational health and safety standard OHSAS 18001. The audit was carried out by TÜV Hessen and completes Schade’s transition to the 2015 standard for quality and environmental management.
East AfricanPortland Cement gains ISO certification
26 February 2018Kenya: East Africa Portland Cement has gained re-certification for ISO 14001 on environmental management system, and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety. Company official Simon Peter ole Nkeri said that the achievement was part of the company’s around strategy, according to the Business Daily newspaper. He added that the adoption of an environmental quality management system was a strategic decision to improve the company’s performance.
LafargeHolcim Spain obtains ISO 9001 certification
20 July 2017Spain: LafargeHolcim Spain has obtained the International Standards organisation (ISO) UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 certification for its cement plants. It says it is the first cement company to do so in the country one year ahead of an adaption period granted by the ISO. The standard provides a quality management system for companies and organisations to ensure that their products and services comply with external standards.
The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim’s Central Quality Laboratory has also revalidated its ISO 17025 status with the Entidad Nacional de Acreditación (ENAC), the national body that applies European accrediation standards.
Falcon Cement approved for ISO 9001 certification
02 October 2013Bahrain: Falcon Cement Company (FCC), the first Bahrain-based fully integrated cement producer, has announced that it has been approved for ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification by Bureau Veritas.
"We are delighted to have received this prestigious certification," said executive director Salah Sharif.
FCC, which started production in 2009, currently produces 1000t/day of cement with expansion planned for the next year to grow it to above 2500t/day. This represents up to 60% of the current cement requirements of the Bahraini market.
