Kesoram Industries to buy limestone reserves
11 October 2018India: Kesoram Industries has received approval from the state government of Karnataka to buy 675 acres of land for mining limestone reserves. The subsidiary of BK Birla Group plans to use the acquisition to increase its existing limestone reserves, according to the Hindu newspaper. The amount the cement producer will pay for the land is still being negotiated and will be paid over a two-year period.
Bharathi Cement launches fast setting product in Karnataka
17 September 2018India: Bharathi Cement has launched its BharathiUltraFast product for the market in Karnataka. The OPC 53 cement product promises faster pre-casting work, even in humid conditions, high early strength and a low heat of hydration to minimise crack formation.
The cement producer is a subsidiary of Vicat. The French company acquired a 51% stake in Bharathi Cement in 2010. It also owns Kalburgi Cement, formerly known as Vicat Sagar Cement. Bharathi Cement operates a 5Mt/yr integrated plant at Nallalingayapalli in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh and Kalburgi Cement runs a 2.75Mt/yr plant at Chatrasala in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka. Both plants market their products under the brand name ‘Bharathi Cement.’
Shree Cement commissions mill at Kodla plant
28 June 2018India: Shree Cement has commissioned the cement grinding mill at its Kodla cement plant in Karnataka. The mill has a cement production capacity of 3Mt/yr. The new integrated plant was proposed in early 2017 with a clinker production capacity of 2.8Mt/yr. It had an investment of US$260m and was scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
JSW Cement to upgrade Dolvi plant
17 October 2017India: JSW Cement plans to invest around US$277m towards increasing its production capacity and it is considering an initial public offering (IPO) in 2019 or 2020. The cement producer wants to increase the cement production capacity to 2.2Mt/yr in 2018 from 1Mt/yr at its Dolvi grinding plant in Maharashtra, according to the Press Trust of India. A further expansion to 4.5Mt/yr is scheduled for 2019.
"We expect huge demand for cement in the country and plan to expand our cement manufacturing capacity from 12.5Mt/yr to 20Mt/yr by 2020. We are adding 4.5Mt/yr at our Dolvi unit in Maharashtra and 1.2Mt/yr at out Vijaynagar unit in Karnataka, apart from 1.2Mt/yr adding at our Odisha unit,” said JSW Cement’s managing director Parth Jindal. He added that the company would wait for the outcome of the general election in 2019 and create a ‘healthy’ financial profile before launching the IPO. After raising money in the offering the company plans to reach a 30Mt/yr capacity by 2025 and 50Mt/yr in 2030 both through new builds and acquisitions.
India: Orient Cement has paid US$46,000 in compensation to the families of two workers who were electrocuted at the Chittapur cement plant. The move follows tension in the local community, according to the New Indian Express newspaper. The cement producer has also agreed to offer employment to the members of both families and to grant pensions to the widows of the workers.
India: The State High Level Clearance Committee of Karnataka has approved an expansion project at Birla Shakti Cement’s plant in Vasavadatta and a new plant at Gulbarga that will be built by India Cements. Birla Shakti Cement, a subsidiary of Kesoram Industries, is planning a US$97m upgrade to increase the plant’s production capacity to 9Mt/yr from 4.1Mt/yr. India Cements is planning to build a 2Mt/yr plant at Gulbarga.
JSW Cement increases capacity of Bellary grinding plant
16 January 2017India: JSW Cement has increased the capacity of its Bellary cement grinding plant in Vijay Nagar to 3.4Mt/yr from 1Mt/yr. The cement producer said that the additional capacity would help it strengthen its distribution network throughout south of the country. The chairman and managing director of JSW Group, Shri Sajjan Jindal, and other dignitaries inaugurated the new unit.
KHD to install 3-string preheater at Shree Cement
08 September 2016India: Shree Cement has awarded KHD with new projects for three more kiln lines, each with a capacity of 6000t/day.
The first project is for line two at Shree’s Raipur plant. The second new line will be built in Karnataka using a three-string preheater with the following equipment from KHD: three-string, six-stage preheater, PRZ 9575; three-pier rotary kiln Ø 5.4/5.0m x 75m long; and a Pyrojet burner; Pyrostep clinker cooler, PSC 3-154.16T. The project commencement date was 2 September 2016. The third project, at a location to be announced, will also be built using the equipment mentioned above.
Shree Cement has implemented 11 KHD high-efficiency kiln lines and many grinding stations, including 10 KHD roller presses.
JK Cement stops production at Muddapur plant
27 April 2016India: JK Cement has stopped clinker and cement production at its Muddapur cement plant in Karnataka. It reported finding cracks in a raw material silo.
Beumer supplies world's highest bucket elevator to ACC
20 April 2016India: Beumer Group has supplied a HGBW-HC 1250 x 175.3m belt bucket elevator to the ACC cement plant in Wadi. Beumer says it is the highest such bucket elevator in the world with a distance of 175.3m between the centres. The size of this system enables a flow rate of around 600t/hour to be achieved, supported by high-strength steel wire belts. Previously Beumer has supplied bucket elevators with a height of 174m and 171m to ACC.
