Chinese joint ventures boost Tajik cement production
16 April 2019Tajikistan: The Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MOINT) says that Tajik-Chinese joint ventures Chzhungtsai Mohir Cement, Huaxin Gayur Cement, and Huaxin Gayur Sughd Cement accounted for nearly 85% of local cement production in the first three months of 2019. Overall production grew by 9% year-on-year to 0.84Mt from 0.75Mt in the same period in 2018, according to the Asia-Plus News Agency. Around 36% of production was exported with more than 150,000t of cement to Uzbekistan, more than 140,000t of cement to Afghanistan and nearly 12,000t of cement to Kyrgyzstan. Tajikistan has 13 cement plants with a total production capacity of 4.7Mt/yr.
Chzhungtsai Mohir Cement plant to open in Tajikistan
01 August 2016Tajikistan: The Government of Tajikistan and the Chzhungtsai Mohir Cement company are set to open a 1.2Mt/yr cement plant in Yovon district, Khatlon province in August 2016 according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. The plant has an investment of US$120m and it will create 500 jobs, according to Asia-Plus news agency. Construction originally started in 2014.
Tajikistan plans for construction of six new cement plants
16 January 2015Tajikistan: Tajikistan's Ministry of Industry and New Technologies plans to open six new cement plants in the next two years. Currently the country has 10 cement plants. The additional capacity will reportedly turn Tajikistan from a cement importer to an exporter.
Construction began on a 1.2Mt/yr capacity Tajikistan-China joint venture cement plant, Tajchina, which is expected to start production in 2015. Additionally, plans have been made for other cement plants in the Dangara, Bobokon, Gafurov and Isfara Districts and in Istiklol City. The country's largest cement plant at present is Huaxin Gayur Cement Co, a joint venture between a subsidiary of Huaxin Cement Co and Gaur Limited Liability Company.
Tajikistan aims to double cement production in 2014
16 July 2014Tajikistan: Tajikistan generated 496,600t of cement in the first six months of 2014, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies. Tajikistan reportedly generated 385,000t of cement in 2013. The country is now intending to double its annual production of cement in 2014.
In September 2013, the Yovon cement plant (Huaxin Gayur Cement Co Ltd) started operation. It has reportedly produced 362,800t of cement in January - June 2014. This was over 70% of the overall volume of cement produced in Tajikistan in the first half of 2014.
Other cement plants in the country include the Tajikistan - China joint venture, Yovon cement, with a cement production capacity of 1Mt/yr. OJSC Tojikcement (Dushanbe cement plant) produced 101,600t of cement in the first half of 2014.
China: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) had finalised details of an overall plan to reduce overcapacity in the cement industry according to Xin Renzhou, an official with the MIIT interviewed by an affiliate of the Xinhua News Agency.
Xin said that the plan would require higher standards for environmental controls including fuel efficiency measures. Cement plants failing to comply with the new requirements will be ordered to make changes or face losing market access. Jing Xiaobo, another official from the MIIT, added that the through the plan China also intends to reduce overcapacity mby expanding domestic demand, accelerating its decommissioning strategy and optimising organisational structures in cement producers.
In addition to joint efforts between the MITT and the NDRC, the China Banking Regulatory Commission and other related authorities will issue a series of supporting policies on curbing overcapacity, and adopting more commercial measures to strictly control the output capacity of major industries, such as the cement industry.
2013 start for HC Kazakh plant
04 July 2011Kazakhstan: HeidelbergCement plans to start production at a Euro200m cement plant in the western region of Mangistau in 2013 according to a statement made by the Kazakhstan Ministry of Industry and New Technologies on 27 June 2011. The plant will have an initial production capacity of 1Mt/yr of cement with the possibility of doubling its capacity in the future, the Ministry said.
HeidelbergCement has invested Euro70m in infrastructure around the plant, including roads, railway and electricity lines and living quarters for employees. The German cement company entered Kazakhstan in 2005 by purchasing Bukhtarma Cement Company, one of the leading cement producers in the country.
