FLSmidth to supply Cementos Concepción plant in Paraguay
15 March 2019Paraguay: Businessman José Ortíz says that Denmark’s FLSmidth will supply equipment for a new 1Mt/yr cement plant being built in Concepción. He made the comments in a radio interview, according to La Nacion newspaper. The unit is expected to be commissioned in mid-2021 and it has an investment of US$180m. The project is being financed by the Cartes Group, the Jiménez Gaona Group and José Ortiz. Jorge Mendez, the former president of state-owned cement producer Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC), will be president of the new plant.

12 March 2019Paraguay: Cementos Concepción plans to build a 1Mt/yr plant in Concepción at a cost of US$180m. The new company has been set up by businessman José Ortíz, according to the Hoy newspaper. The capital for the plant is being provided by the Cartes Group, the Jiménez Gaona Group and José Ortiz. The project is currently sourcing equipment for the plant and the plant is expected to be operational by 2021.
Unions warn of cement shortages in Paraguay
15 February 2019Paraguay: Union representatives at Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) have warned of shortages in mid-February 2019. They have cited a shortage of bags at its Villeta plant and problems with the kiln at the Vallemi plant, according to the ABC Color newspaper. The president of INC has denied the claims. Local cement sales are expected to rise by 7.7% year-on-year to 1.4Mt in 2019 from 1.3Mt in 2018.
Questions asked about petcoke supplier to INC
06 February 2019Paraguay: Local press is querying why state-owned cement company Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has signed a petcoke contract with Sanfil-GT consortium. A delivery of 12,000t of petcoke has been delayed for logistic reasons, according to the ABC newspaper. The consignment is part of a US$6.5m contract to supply 24,000t of petcoke. In 2018 INC awarded a tender to buy US$6m of Turkish-produced clinker from Sanfil-GT Scientific. However, the manufacturer, Cemco Cement Trading, later warned that neither Sanfil SA nor GT Scientific SA were authorised to market the commodity.
INC to upgrade kiln ventilation at Vallemí cement plant
17 January 2019Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) is planning to upgrade the ventilation system for the kiln at its Vallemí cement plant. The state-owned cement producer has money left over from bonds it issued in 2018, according to the La Nacion newspaper. The work is expected to increase the productivity of the kiln.
FLSmidth to supply new cement plant in Paraguay
08 January 2019Paraguay: Denmark’s FLSmidth has been awarded a contract to deliver equipment for a new cement plant. The contract has a value of over US$54m. The expected plant start-up is within 24 months and the plant is expected to be fully operational in 2021. The plant will have a capacity of 2500t/day and will mainly supply cement to its local market.
FLSmidth will design and engineer the production line and will deliver equipment for the entire production line, from crushing to packing, while the customer will be in charge of the civil design and construction of the plant.

INC despatches grow by 2% in 2018
08 January 2019Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) says that its despatches of cement grew by 2% year-on-year to 12.7 million bags in 2018 from 12.6 million bags in 2017. The company described how it overcame a ‘difficult moment’ in late 2018 by normalising the cement despatch process and supplying overdue orders. Local media reported a shortage of cement and technical issues at INCs Villeta plant in late 2018.
INC launches new masonry cement product during shortage
07 December 2018Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has launched a new masonry cement product ‘CAB 4.5.’ The new offering is intended for small scale applications. It will be sold in 40kg bags. However, local media has questioned whether the state-owned producer should be launching a new product during a cement shortage.

Silo fault spills 250t of cement at INC Villeta plant
04 December 2018Paraguay: A fault in a storage silo has spilled around 250t of cement at Industria Nacional del Cemento’s (INC) plant. The silo was reportedly closed for maintenance at the time, according to the ABC – Paraguay newspaper. The material is unrecoverable and its value was around US$0.1m. The mistake follows similar spills at other silos at the state-owned plant. Other maintenance issues have also been reported at the site.
