Carthage Cement sees positive start to 2023
25 April 2023Tunisia: Carthage Cement saw a 35% rise in turnover during the first quarter of 2023 to reach US$37.3m. The company explained that the improvement was mainly due to a 64% increase in export turnover, which rose from US$4.0m in the first quarter of 2022 to US$6.5m in the first quarter of 2023. Local turnover was also higher, rising by 30% year-on-year to US$27.6m.
Carthage Cement increases turnover in 2022
24 January 2023Tunisia: Carthage Cement recorded a turnover of US$119m during 2022, up by 13% year-on-year from US$105m. The producer invested US$8.17m in capital expenditure projects during the year, up by 18% from US$6.95m. Africa Manager News has reported that Carthage Cement's debt fell by 8% year-on-year to US$123m at the end of 2022.
Saint-Gobain acquires Chryso
04 October 2021France: France-based Saint-Gobain has acquired Chryso from financier Cinven for Euro1.02bn. The Le Moniteur newspaper has reported that the group will operationally integrate Chryso into its high performance solutions division. It said that it intends to develop Chryso in markets already served by Saint-Gobain, and to accelerate cross-selling between Weber and Chryso.
CEO Benoit Bazin said "Chryso strengthens us significantly in the growing construction chemicals market, in which we have made 10 acquisitions and opened 16 plants in 18 countries over the past three years to now exceed more than Euro3bn in turnover in 66 countries.”
Spain: LafargeHolcim has said that it expects an annual turnover of some Euro300m in Spain, where it has a cement production capacity of more than 10Mt/yr. It also operates five cement grinding plants, 40 mortar plants, 13 quarries, five terminals and a waste treatment plant in the country.
