Beumer Group supplies palletisers to Cooperativa La Cruz Azul’s cement plants

Mexico: Beumer Group has won a contract to supply Cooperativa La Cruz Azul’s cement plants with 14 new 5500 – 6000 bag/hr palletisers. The cement company made the decision to modernise palletising operations at its plants following a law change requiring cement to be packaged in 25kg bags, instead of 50kg, from the start of 2023. Beumer Group plans to deliver the first five palletisers in the third quarter of 2022. The other nine machines will follow by 2023.

The supplier said “Cruz Azul and Beumer Group have had a trustful and successful partnership for decades. The system provider has convinced with its highly developed and sustainable technology and a sophisticated concept, which will enable the cement manufacturer to achieve the required performance in its packaging terminal” It continued “Covid-19 presented a particular challenge in this project. Due to the pandemic, it was not possible for Beumer experts to be on site with the customer in person. All concepts were discussed, debated and agreed online and with the support of the local group company in Mexico City.”

Acciona Energía to supply 30% of Cemex España’s electricity consumption

Spain: Cemex España has signed a 10-year renewable energy supply deal with Acciona Energía. The producer expects the contract to cover 30% of its power consumption. It used 30% renewable energy in 2021, and is aiming to achieve 55% renewables use by 2030.

Cemex Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia president Sergio Menendez said "Increasing clean energy consumption plays a key role within our decarbonisation plan." He concluded "This agreement shows commitment to our clean energy transition, adding to the success of similar agreements in other geographies."

Calcom Cement must create 20 jobs for locals

India: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has directed Calcom Cement to create 20 new full-time jobs for local people by January 2023. The Sentinel newspaper has recorded that the new positions must go to people from designated Project Affected Families (PAFs) with regard to the plant's Pipapukhuri cement plant in Assam. The designation covers any household which lost a source of a livelihood following the company's refusal to deliver a previously agreed rehabilitation package.

UltraTech Cement declines to pay US$126m for Jaiprakash Associates cement plant in Uttar Pradesh

India: UltraTech Cement has declined to pay US$126m for a 3Mt/yr cement plant in Uttar Pradesh which it acquired from Jaiprakash Associates in 2017. The Economic Times newspaper has reported that the acquisition was part of a US$2.05bn deal covering 21.2Mt/yr-worth of cement capacity across six cement plants and five grinding plants. With environmental clearances pending on the Uttar Pradesh plant, the companies had agreed to a delayed final payment for the US$126m asset, to be made on 30 June 2022. UltraTech Cement says that it is unwilling to pay for the plant ‘in the present circumstances,’ given that the required clearances are still lacking. The group is reportedly seeking a revaluation of the plant down to US$78.3m.

Betolar customers to produce 250,000t/yr of Geoprime concrete by 2023

India: Three new Indian concrete companies have separately secured agreements for the use of Finland-based Betolar’s Geoprime alkali-activated slag and fly ash additive. Reuters News has reported that the companies are Balaiji Cement Products, Shiv Tiles and SNEH Precast. Engineering company Godrej & Boyce has also signed a letter of intent with the supplier for pilot production of concrete blocks, paving slabs and other elements.

Betolar expects producers to achieve global concrete production volumes of 250,000t/yr of concrete containing Geoprime by 2023.

COBOD to supply 3D printers in Australia and Canada

05 July 2022

Australia/Canada: Fortex and Nidus3D have won contracts to become Denmark-based COBOD’s distribution partners for the Australian and Canadian markets respectively. Nidus3D previously printed a multi-unit residential building, the first of its kind in North America, using COBOD’s 3D printing equipment. Meanwhile, the supplier says that its first BOD2 3D printer available on the Australian market will arrive there in late 2022.

Regarding the Australian contract with Fortex, COBOD noted that it will make its equipment available on six different continents.

FLSmidth to supply preheater and mills for upcoming Asian cement plant

Asia: FLSmidth says that it has won a contract to supply its low-NOx ILC preheater, an OK raw mill, an OK cement mill and other equipment to a cement plant in Asia. FLSmidth will deliver the equipment in 2023. The total value of the deal is US$56.1m.

FLSmidth’s cement industry president Carsten Riisberg Lund said "This project showcases FLSmidth’s ability to deliver energy efficient technologies across the full cement flowsheet, and thereby support our customers in both increasing capacity and their sustainability efforts.”

India Cements signs strategic collaboration agreement with Tvasta Manufacturing

India: India Cements has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with 3D printing equipment supplier company Tvasta Manufacturing. The agreement establishes mutual strategic support between the partners in their efforts to develop new raw materials for use in 3D printing.

India Cements director Rupa Gurunath said "We are excited that Tvasta Manufacturing's technology delivers a cost-effective construction method that offers quicker turn-arounds as compared to conventional methods. But what we are particularly enthusiastic about is that this methodology is more eco-friendly, with lower consumption of water and sand."

Dalmia Bharat Foundation signs memorandum of understanding to train 600 young people annually

India: Dalmia Bharat Foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bokaro Steel Plant for the training of 600 new young people from Bokaro every year. Under the initiative, the partners will run short, placement-based courses at the DIKSHa (Dalmia Institute of Knowledge and Skill Harnessing) centre.

Dalmia Bharat Foundation CEO and Dalmia Bharat group head - corporate social responsibility Vishal Bhardwaj said “Since our inception in 2009, we’ve witnessed our role gradually transform from being a resource provider to a key enabler for positive change in society. While we’ve created a legacy of development and change for the better, we continue to strive to ensure that we meet newer economic and environmental needs and close wider societal gaps as much as possible.”

Siam Cement Group to distribute COBOD 3D printers in Thailand

Thailand: Siam Cement Group (SCG) has secured a contract with Denmark-based COBOD to provide Thai distribution services for the company’s COBOD 3D construction printers. SCG says that it will help the supplier to launch a construction sector transformation. It says that it chose COBOD’s printer as the option with the most in-market experience.

SCG International managing director Abhijit Datta said “3D construction printers have been widely used in many parts of the world with excellent results. The technology helps reduce waste and increase construction times with foolproof simulation and minimal numbers of labourers.” He continued “Together with COBOD, we will improve Thailand’s construction market with the future expectation of extending cooperation in the ASEAN. With our regional expertise and domestic solid business alliance relationship, we are ready to assist our partner in achieving long-term success.”
