Afcham China National Consortium Material Company eyes Cameroon for 0.5Mt/yr integrated cement plant
31 October 2019Cameroon: The Chinese-based Afcham China National Consortium Material Company has signed a memorandum with the Kribi Industrial Cement Plant Company (CmIKri) for the construction of an integrated cement plant with a capacity of over 0.5Mt/yr, and the possibility of an extension to 1.5Mt/yr, in the port of Kribi. The installation, spanning 30ha, will include shipping facilities and an 18,000t clinker silo, and cost US$60m.
China Tianrui Group Cement signs new clinker supply framework agreement with Ruiping Shilong
17 October 2019China: China Tianrui Group Cement has secured a new agreement with Ruiping Shilong for the supply of its clinker. The company announced that under the new arrangement, valid until 31 December 2021, it will buy clinker at a rate possibly exceeding the US$74m/yr cap stipulated in the 1 April 2019 agreement which covered the same period.
Holcim Switzerland promotes family life
15 October 2019Switzerland: Holcim Switzerland has ratified a new collective labour agreement (CCL) with two unions. Finanznachrichten has reported that under the new arrangement the company’s 570 employees will be able to receive two weeks’ paid paternity leave. Lena Frank, head of personnel negotiations, stated that “the compatibility between work and family is central to equality. The new regulation is therefore an important step forward.”
Vietnam: SCG Cement – Building Materials Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology have signed a memorandum of understanding for a three-year collaboration on innovation including research, development and human development. The agreement follows work between the two organisations over the last year, according to The Vietnam Investment Review newspaper. They will now form a collaborative expert group to carry out research projects in line with the needs of SCG, to improve product quality, increase labour productivity and accelerate the application of new technologies in production and construction.
Greece: Heracles Cement has agreed an electricity energy deal with the Public Power Corporation. The three-year deal with the state-owned energy company will start at the end of 2020. It includes a 10% increase in the rate. The agreement is also part of the country’s Greenpass scheme. The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim operates two integrated plants in the country.
Japan: UBE Machinery Corporation has signed a license agreement for the design, manufacture and commissioning of vertical roller mills for cement plants and related applications on exclusive basis with India’s AMCL Machinery for markets in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. The deal was signed in late May 2019. This license agreement has been signed to explore ‘mutual cooperation and opportunities’ between UBE Machinery Corporation and AMCL Machinery.
AMCL Machinery is part of Hindusthan National Glass & Industries. It manufactures vertical roller pre-grinding mills for cement plants in India and the Middle East. It also produces rubber and tyre building machines for the local tyre industry.
Holcim Argentina to use 35% wind power in 2020
24 July 2019Argentina: Holcim Argentina has signed a deal with YPF Luz for the supply of wind power to its cement plants. The supply agreement is planned for the start of 2020. It is intended to provide 35% of the company’s emergy requriements by the end of the first half. YPF Luz will provide eletectricity from its Los Teros Wind Farm at Azul in Buenos Aires province. The contracted supply is for 142GWh from a 30MW installed base.
UAE: Al Ain Cement and National Cement have signed a clinker offtake deal. Al Ain Cement, a subsidiary of Arkan Building Materials, will supply clinker to National Cement’s grinding plant in Abu Dabi, according to Gulf Today. The agreement is also intended to help both companies reduce production and logistics costs. The two companies have a combined production capacity of 3.1Mt/yr of clinker and 6.6Mt/yr of cement.
China: CNBM and France’s Fives have signed a cooperation agreement related to the Paris Agreement regarding climate change and the modernisation of CNBM’s plants. CNBM was represented by both Ma Mingliang, vice-president of China Building Materials Engineering Group and Wang Kedong, chief executive officer’s (CEO) assistant of Zhonglian Cement, and Fives was represented by Didier Bourbon, Sales Vice-President (Asia) of Fives FCB. This agreement includes the supply of the FCB Horomill grinding technology developed by Fives FCB for both CNBM’s overseas projects and domestic projects such as Zhonglian Cement and Southwest Cement projects. The signing ceremony took place at the 7th Sino-French Industrial Cooperation Forum held in Chongqing. The agreement follows a similar deal struck in April 2019 in Paris.
Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies signs deal with Bouygues Construction to develop low carbon concrete
05 July 2019France: Hoffmann Green Cement Technologies and Bouygues Construction have signed a 30-month initial technical and commercial collaboration agreement to develop and test concrete formulations using new cement made from Hoffmann’s H-EVA technology. Hoffmann Green Cement inaugurated its pilot plant at Bournezeau, Vendée in late 2018. The unit will manufacture cement products using flash-calcined metakaolin and blast-furnace slag. Bouygues Construction is a global construction company with a presence in over 60 countries.
