Eqiom Lumbres plant commissions ThyssenKrupp for new grinding plant

France: The Eqiom Lumbres cement plant, part of CRH, has commissioned ThyssenKrupp Polysius to construct a fine grinding plant. The new plant will include the Polysius booster mill and the Sepol ultra-fine classifier, along with necessary auxiliary equipment. ThyssenKrupp Polysius is set to deliver the equipment by late summer 2025, aiming for commissioning in the fourth quarter of 2025. It will also provide on-site service and technical support for performance optimisation.

Project Manager Layal Haddad said "We are proud to be contributing to decarbonisation with the ultra-fine grinding plant and reducing the CO₂ footprint of cement. This is the first ultra-fine grinding plant based on a Polysius booster mill to be sold worldwide. We look forward to a successful project together with the Eqiom/CRH team."

National Cement Company to commission 2.5Mt/yr West Pokot cement plant in September 2023

Kenya: National Cement Company expects to commission its upcoming West Pokot clinker plant in September 2023. The cement company says that the plant will produce clinker for export to neighbouring countries in Central and East Africa. A previous survey by the Kerio Valley Development Authority proved reliable reserves of 1.2Mt/yr of limestone in the area. When commissioned, National Cement Company expects the new plant to generate 2000 direct jobs.

Sustained Visions, Qazax Sement Zavodu and DAL Teknik Makina commission 1.3Mt/yr Gazakh cement plant

Azerbaijan: Germany-based Sustained Visions has announced the commissioning of Akkord Cement subsidiary Qazax Sement Zavodu’s 1.3Mt/yr-capacity integrated Gazakh cement plant in Ganja-Gazakh region following a phase-two upgrade completed in collaboration with the owner and DAL Holding subsidiary DAL Teknik Makina. The plant, built in 2013, had an original capacity of 0.9Mt/yr.

Sustained Visions praised the collaborative effort, which has resulted in a “significant reduction in specific energy consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions” for the plant, and “shows very stable performance.” Managing director Ralf Slomski noted that, in spite of the coronavirus outbreak, the company was able to maintain a project management team of five staff on the site at peak periods.

Shaanxi Xiangsheng launches 0.9Mt/yr Fergana integrated cement plant

15 January 2020

Uzbekistan: Chinese investors have announced the launch of a 0.9Mt/yr integrated cement plant in the Fergana region of Uzbekistan as a result of a total investment of US$113m. Trend News has reported that a second phase of work beginning in May 2020 will further increase the cement plant’s production capacity. This is one of five upcoming Chinese-owned integrated plants in Uzbekistan, with a shared capacity of 6.0Mt/yr.

FYM-HeidelbergCement launches sustainability commission for Malaga plant

Spain: FYM-HeidelbergCement has launched a sustainability commission to support its Malaga cement plant and the surrounding community. The initiative is part of the company’s 2030 sustainability plan. It includes representatives from local neighbourhood associations, local government and environmental bodies. The commission will meet several times a year to foster an open relationship between the cement producer and its neighbours. It also intends to promote behavior based on the circular economy and the reduction of the unit’s carbon footprint. It will build on the company’s work with the Provincial Forum of Socially Responsible Companies of Malaga since its inception in 2013.

Ivory Coast sets up quality control commission for cement

06 February 2018

Ivory Coast: Jean-Claude Brou, the Minister of Industry and Mines, has announced the creation of a commission for the quality control of cement. The minister made the statement at the opening of a new mill at LafargeHolcim plant at Abidjan, according to the Agence Ivoirienne de Presse. Brou added the country’s demand for cement rose to 5Mt in 2017 from 2.5Mt in 2015.
