Holcim and the Swiss Architecture Museum hold history of concrete exhibition

19 November 2021

Switzerland: Holcim has announced its support of Beton, the first Swiss exhibition dedicated to the history of concrete, at the Swiss Architecture Museum in Basel. The exhibition will run until 24 April 2022 and feature talks by an industry expert on the future of concrete.

Holcim chief executive officer Jan Jenisch said “I congratulate our partners at the Swiss Architecture Museum for creating this first-of-its-kind exhibition showcasing the essential role of concrete in our world. This exploration is a great inspiration for all of us at Holcim as we shape the future of concrete, making it green, circular and technology-driven. Bauma 2022 postponed to 24 – 30 October 2022

26 April 2021

Germany: Messe München has announced the postponement of the Bauma 2022 trade fair to 24 – 30 October 2022. The previously scheduled date for the event had been 4 – 10 April 2022. The organiser said it recognised growing uncertainties about the April date in light of the on-going Covid-19 outbreak. The new dates are at a time when it is confident of the possibility of international travel.

Chair and chief executive officer Klaus Dittrich said, “The decision to postpone Bauma was not an easy one for us, of course. But we had to make it now, before the exhibitors start planning their participation in the trade show and make corresponding investments. Unfortunately, despite the vaccination campaign that has been launched around the world, it is not yet possible to predict when the pandemic will be largely under control and unlimited worldwide travel will be possible again. This makes participation difficult to plan and calculate for both exhibitors and visitors. Under these circumstances, we would not have been able to fulfil our central promise that Bauma, the world's leading trade fair, represents the entire spectrum of the industry and generate international reach like no other comparable event. After all, Bauma’s last edition welcomed participants from over 200 countries around the world. Hence, the decision is consistent and logical.”

Hillhead exhibition postponed until June 2022

08 March 2021

UK: QMJ Group has decided to postpone its Hillhead quarrying and recycling show until 21 – 23 June 2022. It follows review of its plans for 2021 with consideration given to the government’s post-Covid pandemic reopening roadmap. The event was originally planned to take place in June 2021.

Event director Richard Bradbury said, “Under these guidelines, it is clear that the show will not be able to operate legally in June this year. Our priority is to provide the Hillhead experience that our exhibitors and visitors have come to expect but, with the continuing uncertainty around travel restrictions and social distancing measures, this is not achievable in 2021.” He added, “By delaying the show until June 2022, the full benefits of a completed vaccination programme will have filtered through, allowing us to deliver a safe and vibrant event. The team looks forward to welcoming you back to Hillhead Quarry, Buxton, from 21 - 23 June 2022.”

Metso celebrates 150th anniversary with photo exhibition

18 September 2018

Finland: Metso is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a photo exhibition illustrating how the company has taken part in shaping and building the modern world. Interim chief executive officer (CEO) and chief financial officer (CFO) Eeva Sipilä will open the event on 18 September 2018 at Sanoma House in Helsinki. The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of September 2018.

The company was first established in 1868 when Erik Jan Hammarberg set up the Sunds Bruk ironworks in Sweden. As the business developed its products and services widened and its ownership changed. In 1991, the operations become part of Rauma-Repola. Rauma then merged with Valmet in 1999 to form Metso. At present the company operates in more than 50 countries and over 12,000 staff. It serves the mining, aggregates, recycling and process industries.

A central part of the company’s focus includes aggregates and minerals processing. Key parts of Metso’s development in this area include the creation of the Nordberg Manufacturing Company in 1886 by Bruno Nordberg, a Finnish migrant who settled in Michigan in the US and produced some of the first crushing equipment for mines. In 1928, Nordberg acquired Symons cone crusher technology. Bergeaud & Bruno was established in France in 1895 to manufacture crushing equipment, and in Tampere, Finland, Lokomo produced its first jaw crushers at the beginning of the 1920s. Each of these companies and their products continue to the present day as products offered by Metso.
