TimluyCement receives new excavator
28 April 2020Russia: TimluyCement has received a Hyundai Robex 210W-9S excavator at its 0.8Mt/yr Timluisky plant. The vehicle replaces the plant’s Twex EK-14. The new excavator is equipped with a bulldozer blade, outriggers and a hydraulic line for attachments and has a bucket capacity of 1.1m3. A Webasto pre-heater will warm up the engine before starting it in the cold season, increasing service life. TimluyCement managing director Vladimir Klichko said, “The modernization of the fleet of special equipment is an integral part of our production process. By acquiring high-performance, reliable vehicles, we increase work efficiency, minimise operating costs and also improve the working conditions of our employees.”
Hyundai previously provided the Timluisky plant with front-end loaders.
Dangote truck kills six in Lagos
03 April 2020Nigeria: A Dangote Cement truck overturned on the Epe Bridge in Lagos, landing on a taxi and killing six of its seven passengers. Punch Metro newspaper has reported the cause of the incident was a brake failure due to a mechanical fault with the truck. It is unknown whether the driver was operating illegally. The survivor is receiving hospital treatment.
Cemex Colombia cleans the streets in Maceo
03 April 2020Colombia: Workers from Cemex Colombia are using vehicles volunteered by the company to transport water and disinfectant for use in street cleaning in Maceo, Antioquia department. Esmerk Latin American News has reported that the aim of the exercise is to combat the spread of coronavirus. Cemex Colombia has also donated food, water and antibacterial gel to communities around its 2.8Mt/yr Caracolito plant near Ibagué, Tomila department.
UK: The Mayor of London visited Mexican-based Cemex’s Stepney readymix concrete plant to launch a road safety initiative along with Transport for London (TfL) and London Councils. The initiative consists of a ratings scheme of up to five stars for in-cabin vision for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), with a ban on zero-star vehicles inside of Greater London. The regulation comes into effect in November 2020, before which time HGV operators may install a ‘Safe System’ consisting of sensors and noise alerts, in order to apply for a Safety Permit to keep their vehicles on the roads.
CalPortland wins grant for new railcar mover
05 June 2019US: CalPortland has been awarded a US$0.34m grant by the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District (MDAQMD) as a partner in the replacement of a 1987 Trackmobile with a 2019 Rail King RK330 railcar mover at its Oro Grande cement plant in California. The new machine has been chosen to reduce its air emissions in accordance with the California Clean Air Act.
