Russia: Rosneft subsidiary Vostsibneftegaz contracted SLK Cement to supply over 8000t of oil well cement to its Yurubcheno-Tokhomsk oilfield in Krasnoyark region in late 2020. The subsidiary of Italy-based Buzzi Unicem provided PZT I-G-CC-1 type oil well cement and shipped it by rail and road. It says that the oilfield is among its target markets in Ural district, alongside the Tyumensk, Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamal-Nenets oilfields.

UK: Cemex UK, part of Mexico-based Cemex, has renewed its 100% renewable electricity supply contract with France-based Engie until mid-2024. The supply will cover nearly 200 of its UK sites including its integrated cement plant at Rugby and its grinding plant at Tilbury.

Cemex’s Europe regional head of carbon, legacy landfill and special projects Martin Hills said, “Cemex has a dedicated Climate Action Plan for its global operations which outlines the company’s vision to advance towards a carbon-neutral economy and to address society’s increasing demands more efficiently. The use of renewable electricity at our sites plays an important part in this and we are pleased to have renewed our partnership with Engie for a further three years.

France: Hoffman Green Cement Technologies has supplied cement for Groupe GCC’s construction of a new secondary school in Aizenay, Vendée department. The Le Moniteur newspaper has reported that the cement will be used in concrete features of the Level-3 Biobased building. Groupe GCC will supply other elements made of wood. The project is the first use of Hoffman Green Cement Technologies’ products in a public building.

US: Energy company Luminant has awarded Charah Solutions a fly ash management contract extension for its Miami Fort and Zimmer coal-fired power plants in North Bend and Moscow, Ohio. Charah Solutions says that it will pass on the ash for use in concrete production. It will continue to manage the onsite landfill and impoundment operations under its existing contract with Luminant, including material loading, hauling and disposal of approximately 180,000t/yr. In addition, Charah Solutions will be responsible for the beneficiation and utilisation of approximately 400,000t/yr of fly ash. The contract ends in 2027, when both power plants are expected to close.

President and chief executive officer Scott Sewell said “We have been proud to partner with Luminant on its sustainability efforts for many years and are delighted to extend our relationship at these Ohio sites through 2027. We have dramatically reduced the need to landfill fly ash at Miami Fort and Zimmer through our on-going partnership, saving Luminant both expense and valuable landfill space while lowering their risk.” He added “As a result of this expanded agreement, Charah Solutions will continue to provide a reliable supply of high-quality fly ash to ready mix concrete producers in the Midwest, Northeast and deep South through our MultiSource network.”

India: Larsen & Toubro has won a contract for the construction of a 3.5Mt/yr-capacity integrated cement plant at Nimbahera in Rajasthan. The Press Trust of India newspaper has reported that the supplier classed the order’s value as ‘significant,’ meaning between US$134m and US$336m.

India: UltraTech Cement has selected Germany-based Aumund to supply conveyors, elevators and feeders for its ‘Project Spring’ expansion project to increase its installed production capacity to 130Mt/yr of cement from 117Mt/yr.

The expansion project includes three integrated cement production units in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, each with capacities of up to 10,000t/day. For these kiln lines, Aumund India will supply clinker cooler extraction conveyors as well as the transfer conveyors to the clinker silos. Six cement grinding plants in various locations in India are also part of the capacity expansion plans.

Aumund will supply six pan conveyors, 11 Samson material feeders and 68 bucket elevators including up to 157m-high kiln feed bucket elevators, up to 2200t/hr roller press recirculation bucket elevators and clinker and cement handling bucket elevators, among other products. The order is one of the largest to date for Aumund India.

US: Charah Solutions will sell and market production fly ash from NV Energy’s North Valmy coal-fired power plant in Valmy, Nevada under a contract with the power producer. The contract runs until 2025. The company will distribute the ash through its 40-location nationwide MultiSource materials network as supplementary cementitious material (SCM) for cement and concrete production.

President and chief executive officer Scott Sewell said, “We are delighted to partner with NV Energy to manage their fly ash marketing needs at Valmy, while supplying our concrete producers with the high-quality material they need.”

US: Phoenix Industrial will install the raw mill for Denmark-based FLSmidth’s raw mill upgrade of CalPortland’s integrated Mojave cement plant in California. The company said that it will conduct civil, concrete, structural steel, mechanical and electrical work on the project. Mobilisation of crews to the site is due to begin in March 2021 with commissioning scheduled for December 2021. Saxum Engineering is also working on the upgrade.

Egypt: Misr Beni Suef Cement has ended a contract with Arab Swiss Engineering Company (ASEC). In April 2019 the companies signed a contract for ASEC to provide technical management at the producer’s plant. Reuters News has reported that the cement company will now undertake the operation of its production lines.

Germany: Holcim Deutschland has signed a contract supplying its Lägerdorf and Höver integrated cement plants with 30,000MWh of offshore wind power. The electricity will be supplied by Ane Energy from a number of wind farms.
