Çimsa launches white cement product at World of Concrete trade fair
12 February 2020US: Turkey’s Çimsa has launched a new white cement product for the US market at the World of Concrete trade fair in Las Vegas. The subsidiary of Sabancı Holding has showcased its Çimsa Aluminates and Çimsa Super White product ranges.
“As one of the largest grey cement producers of Turkey, Çimsa is among the top three in the global league of white cement. We have increased our visibility in the global cement industry through our investments abroad,” said, Çimsa’s chief executive officer (CEO) Ülkü Özcan. He added that the cement producer founded its Cimsa Americas Cement Manufacturing and Sales Corp in the US in 2017. It then started operations at a grinding mill in Houston, Texas in 2019.
Qatar National Cement Company produces 2.2Mt and profit falls by 51% year-on-year in 2019
28 January 2020Qatar: Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) has recorded a profit of US$47.3m in 2019 – down by 51% from US$95.5m in 2018. This was caused by a 17% year-on-year fall in earnings to US$193m from US$233m in 2018 due to a 24% fall in production year-on-year – from 2.9Mt to 2.2Mt – and increased costs from the completion of the fifth line at the company’s integrated plant, as well as the diversification of its products to include white as well as grey cement.
Eurocement’s Maltsovsky plant gains European cement certification
27 November 2019Russia: Eurocement’s Maltsovsky integrated plant in Bryansk Region has gained European certification for its CEMI 52.5N, CEMI 42.5R and CEMII / A-S 42.5N products. Local testing and independent certification confirmed the new designation. Following an earlier certification for CEMI 42.5N the plant now hopes to grow its exports to the European Union.
Solidia Technologies partners with Xpansic CBL Holding Group for cement CO2 monitoring
07 November 2019US: Solidia Technologies has partnered with Xpansic CBL Holding Group (XCHG) to develop data technology products for precise measurement of CO2 emissions and water usage in cement production. “Digital Feedstock enables industrial consumers to seamlessly connect sustainability ambitions with procurement decisions, wholly disrupting the way the cement industry meets consumer demand for accountability,” said Solidia Technologies CEO Tom Schuler.
Solidia Technologies produces reduced-CO2 concrete with lower-energy cement and water-free CO2 curing.
Siemens announces new Simotics HV M slipring motor
05 November 2019Germany: Siemens has announced what it calls a ‘plant lifetime-increasing’ Simotics HV M slipring motor for mills, crushers, conveyors or fans. The 4.5MW motor fills the gap in Siemens’ slipring range with powers between 0.5MW and 8.2MW. The product uses Global Vacuum Impregnation Technology to increase reliability, giving maximum plant reliability. Siemens Large Drives Applications CEO Hermann Kleinod said “The motors can be easily integrated using 3D-model data.”
Nepal to label cement under 33, 43 and 53 grades
11 July 2019Nepal: The government has approved changes to allow domestic cement to be labelled under 33, 43 and 53 grades. Previously cement could not be certified higher than 33 grade due to a lack of legal provision, according to the Himalayan Times newspaper. The extended quality certification process will be managed by the Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology.
Before this latest change some local manufacturers were selling 43 and 53-grade products despite lacking certification. Importers have also benefited from the lack of legal clarity over higher strength grades of cement. It is hoped that the new regulations will reduce imports.
INC launches composite cement product
11 July 2019Paraguay: Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has launched CPII – C40, a composite cement product. The pozzolanic product is intended for use in structural projects. Its properties include high initial resistance and increased resistance against water. The new product was publicly launched at the EXPO-FAIR Mariano Roque Alonso.
Holcim El Salvador celebrates 70th anniversary with limited edition cement bag branding
10 July 2019El Salvador: Holcim El Salvador is marking its 70th anniversary with the launch of a 42.5kg limited edition bag for its Fuerte cement brand. The new bag features the traditional red and black colours and landmark buildings constructed with Holcim’s cement product packaging, such as Torre Futura, the San Salvador Metropolitan Cathedral and the Divino Salvador del Mundo monument, according to the El Mundo newspaper. The new limited edition bag will be sold until the end of 2019.
Akkermann cement brand enters Perm market
02 July 2019Russia: The Akkermann cement brand has entered the Perm market. The Gornozavodskcement Plant near Perm has started producing cement products under the brand name, according to the Pro Perm website. 400, 500 and 600 strength products will be available in bags and CEM I 42.5N and CEM II / A-W 32.5B products will be available in bulk. The Akkermann brand is part of the South Ural Mining & Processing Company, which operates an integrated cement plant at Orenburg.
US: ABB has launched its Dodge Safety Mount spherical roller bearings product with a built-in patented locking mechanism. It says that this new feature can reduce installation time by up to 75% compared to traditional products. It is mounted by tightening fasteners, instead of using a hammer and other tools. The new system also allows for simple installation and removal from the same side of the bearing. The new bearing is intended for bulk material and air handling applications.
Safety Mount bearings feature a triple-lip contact seal and corrosion-resistant flinger sealing system, which prevents contamination from entering the product during installation and operation. A labyrinth seal option is available for high-speed and high-temperature applications. The product can also be used with ABB Ability Smart Sensor.
