Marcos Cela appointed as head of Cementos Molins

Spain: Cementos Molins has appointed Marcos Cela as its CEO. He will succeed Julio Rodríguez, who has spent nine years in the post, at the end of June 2024 after the shareholders annual general meeting,
Cela holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Barcelona, a master in business administration qualification from the ESADE Business School and a senior management programme qualification from the IESE Business School. He started his career in 1995 in the finances division of Decathlon Spain. Four years later, he assumed the role of Credit and Treasury Director at BIC Graphic Europe, before joining Cementos Molins in 2004 as chief financial officer, a position he held until early 2015. Since then, Cela has been a member of the executive committee, working as the Executive VP for Asia, Africa, and South America regions.
José María Barroso appointed as CEO of CANACEM

Mexico: The National Cement Chamber (CANACEM) has appointed José María Barroso as its CEO. He will follow on from Jaime Hill Tinoco, the head of Holcim México, in the role, according to the El Financiero newspaper. Barroso’s tenure will cover the 2024 – 2025 period.
Barroso is a graduate of the Instituto Tecnologico de Merida in Yucatan and he also holds a master’s degree in international trade form the same institution. He holds over 40 years of experience in the cement sector working both nationally and internationally for Cemex. He joined Cementos Moctezuma in 2010 as its Sales Director before becoming its Director General in 2018.
Al Jabor Cement appoints Rizwan Khan as General Manager

Qatar: Al Jabor Cement has appointed Rizwan Khan as its General Manager.
He previously worked as the chief financial officer for Al Jabor Cement. Prior to this he held financial and analytical roles for LafargeHolcim in the UAE and Saudi Arabia from 2009. Earlier in his career he worked for Emirates Flight Catering from the late 1990s. Khan holds a master in business administration qualification with a focus on finance from the University of Bradford in the UK.
Al Jabor Cement has been an affiliate company to Holcim since 2003 when it formed a strategic partnership. It also uses the name Holcim Cement Qatar.
Per Mernelius appointed as Country Manager for Geminor Denmark

Denmark: Norway-based Geminor has appointed Per Mernelius as Country Manager for Geminor Denmark. He succeeds Kasper Thomsen in the position, who was recently appointed as the Operations Director for Geminor Group. Mernelius is currently the Country Manager for Sweden and he will add the new responsibilities to this role. Initially, he will be in charge of the Danish market for 12 months, pending the appointment of a new country manager in Denmark.
Mernelius commented “Denmark and Sweden are our two biggest downstream markets, with nearly 1Mt of imported refuse-derived fuel/solid recovered fuel in 2023. As such, many similarities open up for synergies in the coming year. An important factor is logistics, and how we can coordinate the two markets for more efficient operations. Our ambition is to grow further and to cater for the existing over-capacity within energy recovery in Scandinavia.”
Mernelius has worked for Geminor since 2016. Before this he worked for Sweden-based energy supplier Jönköping Energi. He is a graduate of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
Kong Qinghui appointed as chair of Tangshan Jidong Cement

China: Tangshan Jidong Cement has appointed Kong Qinghui as its chair. Other appointments include Liu Yu as vice chairman and general manager, Yang Beifang as financial director, Liu Sumin as chief digital officer, and Li Jianfang as general counsel.
Kong Qinghui is a graduate in accounting and he holds a master’s degree in engineering from the Chongqing University of Technology. He started his professional career in 1995 working for Baby-Joy Group in Yantai, before becoming the vice general manager at the logistics headquarters of Tangshan Jidong Cement. Further marketing and management roles followed at various subsidiaries of Tangshan Jidong Cement before Qinghui was appointed as the cement producer’s vice general manager in 2017. From 2020 to mid-2023 he was the general manager assistant of the company and then he became its deputy general manager.
