Turkish cement sector personnel reported dead in ski resort fire

Türkiye: Two members of the cement sector have reportedly died in a fire at the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center. Aysemin Elif Dogan, Mehmet Cem Dogan and their daughter perished in the incident, according to posts by their employers on LinkedIn. 76 people have so far reported to have been killed.

Aysemin Elif Dogan was the R&D and Quality Director for Baştaş Çimento, a subsidiary of France-based Vicat.

Mehmet Cem Dogan had been the plant manager of OYAK Çimento’s Bolu plant in Caydurt since 2023. Prior to this he was the manager of a plant in Ankara. Dogan previously worked for Vicat’s subsidiary Baştaş Çimento and Cimpor in process engineering and production management roles.

Ruhi Bilge appointed as director of Medcem’s Mersin cement plant

Turkey: Medcem has appointed Ruhi Bilge as the director of its integrated Mersin cement plant. He has worked in the cement sector for over 20 years, most recently holding the position of production director for Kümaş Refractories. Prior to this he worked for cement companies including Bursa Çimento, Vicat’s subsidiary Baştaş Çimento and Norm Cement.

Turkish competition authority launches cement collusion probe

29 April 2021

Turkey: The Turkish competition authority Rekabat Kurumu has launched a probe into alleged collusion by nine cement producers. The authority said that it is investigating AS Çimento, Bastas Baskent Çimento, Çimsa, Golas Goller Bolgesi Çimento, Konya Çimento, Kupeliler Endustri, Limak Çimento, Oyak Çimento and Brazil-based Votorantim Cimentos.
