Cim Metal Group orders upgrade for cement grinding plant in Burkina Faso from Intercem Engineering

Burkina Faso: Cim Metal Group has ordered an upgrade to its Cimasso cement grinding plant in Bobo Dioulasso from Germany-based Intercem Engineering. The cement producer has decided to double the plant’s production capacity to at least 4Mt/yr by ordering an extension production line and upgrading the original line. The plant, which was also supplied by Intercem, was originally commissioned in 2018.

The new order includes: three truck unloading stations; raw material handling systems; a raw material hopper station; a cement grinding unit with a vertical roller mill; four 5400t cement silos; five 12 spout rotary packers; ten truck loading stations; ten truck weighing bridges; and one upgrade to the existing cement grinding plant. Intercem is in charge of the engineering, all mechanical and electrical plant components, project management and is also responsible for the supervision activities for the civil, mechanical and electrical assembly works and the commissioning of the plant. No date for commissioning has been announced.

GCM Industries plans 0.64Mt/yr cement plant in Kossodo

Burkina Faso: GCM Industries plans to establish a 0.64Mt/yr integrated cement plant, expandable to 1.2Mt/yr, in Kossodo, Ouagadougou. RTB News has reported the cost of the plant as US$135m. In its export phase, the producer says that the plant will provide 700 jobs. The cement plant will be Burkina Faso’s fifth. Commissioning is scheduled for early 2022.

Cimasso awards bag of cement to every blood donor

Burkina Faso: In response to Burkina Faso’s blood shortage due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cimasso has begun giving away one bag of cement to each person who attends blood donation clinics in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. Sputnik News has reported that, as a result of Cimasso’s efforts in partnership with the National Centre for Blood Transfusion (CNST), medical staff have so far collected 400 bags of blood towards Burkina Faso’s World Health Organisation (WHO)-verified blood needs of 202,000 bags/yr. Cimasso director general Abdoul Rahim said that the initiative will continue, “since no one is immune to diseases that can trigger blood needs, and these actions can save lives.”

Government honours Cimfaso and Cimasso director general Abdoul Rahim

Burkino Faso: The government has appointed Abdul Rahim, director general of Cim Metal subsidiaries Cimfaso and Cimasso a knight of the Order of Merit of Commerce and Industry for his contributions to domestic cement production.

Cimfaso operates a 1.2Mt/yr integrated plant and a 2.0Mt/yr grinding plant in Burkino Faso’s capital of Ouagadougou, while Cimasso operates one 2.6Mt grinding plant in the second city of Bobo-Dioulasso.

Government minister inaugurates new mill at Cimburkina plant

Burkina Faso: Harouna Kaboré, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Handicraft, has inaugurated a new mill at Cimburkina’s cement grinding plant at Kossodo in Ouagadougou. By installing the new mill the unit has doubled it production capacity to 2Mt/yr, according to the Sidwaya newspaper. The upgrade cost US$25m.

François Sangline, the director general of the subsidiary of Germany’s HeidelbergCement, said that the 2000t limestone silo feeds the production line consisting of two 150t/hr cement grinding mills. This is followed by a 120t/hr bagging unit. Sangline noted that the country’s cement consumption of 2.5Mt/yr is below the domestic cement production capacity of 6Mt/yr. Due to this he lobbied the government to protect local production against imports and fraud.

El-Hamel Sidi Moussa starts exporting cement to Niger

11 February 2019

Algeria: El-Hamel Sidi Moussa group’s Timegten cement plant has made its first 2000t export to Niger. The Chinese-Algerian joint venture used the Freight Transport and Logistics Group (Logitrans) to make the delivery overland via the In-Guezzam border crossing, according to Radio Algeria. The 1.2Mt/yr plant plans to target other countries, including Mali, Mauritania and Burkina Faso.

The Euro156m plant was commissioned in 2017. It is being run under a seven-year cooperation agreement where the Chinese partners manage the unit until the local workforce is trained. The plant also manufactures oil well cement.

Cimasso produces first cement bag at Bobo Dioulasso grinding plant

Burkina Faso: Cimasso has produced the first bag of cement at its new 2.6Mt/yr grinding plant at Bobo Dioulasso. The subsidiary of Cim Metal Group met the milestone in early November 2018, according to the Le Pays newspaper. The official inauguration of the unit is planned for the end of November 2018. It follows first production at Ciments de Côte d’Ivoire’s (Cimivoire) 3Mt/yr grinding plant in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast in September 2018. Cimivoire is another subsidiary of Cim Metal Group. The plant was built using loans from the West African Development Bank (BOAD).

New cement plant project in Bobo-Dioulasso draws criticism

Burkina Faso: A new cement plant project being built in Bobo-Dioulasso has drawn complaints from local residents and businesses. The unit is being built in an agricultural indstury section of the city and local companies fear that dust from plant might damage their products, according to the Le Pays newspaper. Food from the region is exported to Europe. Morocco’s Ciments de l'Afrique (CIMAF) announced that it had started building a grinding plant in Bobo-Dioulasso in mid-2016.

Burkina Faso: Assam Daoud has become the president of the Burkina Faso Cement Association. The director general of Ciments de l'Afrique (CIMAF) succeeds Hippolyte Guinguéré, the commercial director of Diamond Cement. Daoud will hold the post for one year. The association has also recently inaugurated its new headquarters.

Burkina Faso government signs limestone deal

Burkina Faso: The Ministry of Mines and Quarries has signed a limestone mining deal with Sahelian Mining, a subsidiary of Diamond Cement Burkina. The deal covers mineral rights for the Sahel region, according to the Sidwaya newspaper. The agreement is intended to diversify the country’s mineral production. Diamond Cement Burkina oprates a cement grinding plant at Ouagadougou.
