Lafarge Africa makes new board appointments
01 May 2024Nigeria: Lafarge Africa has announced leadership changes following the retirement of Adebode Adefioye as its chair. Adefioye served as a board member since 2012 and as chair since June 2020. Gbenga Oyebode succeeds Adefioye in the role of chair. Oyebode has 42 years’ legal, corporate governance and business operational experience. He currently also chairs Okomu Oil Palm Company, Nestle Nigeria and CFAO Nigeria. Upon his accession to chair, Oyebode will step down from all Lafarge Africa board committees.
Lafarge Africa appointed Puneet Sharma as chief financial officer. Sharma brings 30 years’ corporate experience, including management roles at Tropical General Investment Nigeria and GSK Nigeria. He is a member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and a graduate of Panjabi University, Patiala, India.
Adebode Adefioye said "My tenure on the board is filled with good memories. The company has witnessed significant transformation in the last four years and I am happy that this is attributable to the efforts of every member of the board. I feel fulfilled in retiring as chair knowing fully well that I will be leaving the leadership of the board in good hands. I am grateful for the support of the entire board and the confidence reposed in me.”
US: Boral North America has fully or partly suspended operations at four plants and made more than 1700 of its 6900 employees redundant. The Financial Review newspaper has reported that Boral North America chief executive officer (CEO) David Mariner will resign at the end of May 2020.
Australia-based Boral predicted a 3 - 5% year-on-year decrease in net profit in the first half of 2020. Boral chief financial officer (CFO) Ros Ng said, “Boral had US$839m of cash and undrawn liquidity at the end of April 2020.” The group announced a reshuffle of its debt facilities on 15 May 2020.
Chief financial officer steps down from board and leaves FLSmidth
29 November 2019Denmark: FLSmidth’s chief financial officer (CFO) Lars Vestergaard has agreed with the board of directors to resign from the company, effective immediately. FLSmidth has stated as the reason for the change a need for ‘a different set of competences to strengthen our organisation and execute long-term financial targets.’ It thanked Vestergaard for his commitment and dedication in helping FLSmidth achieve milestones in ‘creating a stronger and more focused organisation. FLSmidth Head of Group Reporting and Compliance Naja Barrisøe supersedes Vestergaard as interim CFO until the newly appointed CFO joins the company on or before 1 July 2020.
Switzerland: LafargeHolcim has appointed Ron Wirahadiraksa as the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and member of the Executive Committee. Ron Wirahadiraksa will succeed Thomas Aebischer, who is pursuing new opportunities outside the group. Ron Wirahadiraksa will join LafargeHolcim on 1 December 2015.
Ron Wirahadiraksa is currently Executive Vice President and CFO of Philips, a group he joined in 1987. After working in the Netherlands, Greece, Malaysia and the US, he became CFO at LG Philips LCD in South Korea in 1999. During that time, as President and CFO, he shared operating leadership with the Korean CEO. He became CFO at Philips Healthcare in 2008. In 2011, he took over as CFO for the Philips Group and played a pivotal role in the transformation of the company. Ron Wirahadiraksa was born in the Netherlands in 1960 and graduated with a doctorate in Business Economics from The Free University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
