Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers celebrates 75 years of Dominican cement production

Dominican Republic: The Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM) has declared 2023 a year of strength in the cement industry, as it celebrates the 75-year anniversary of the start of cement production in the country. CNIN News has reported that the Dominican Republic's cement industry contributed US$764m/yr to the national economy, 0.8% of gross domestic product (GDP).

ADOCEM president Félix González said “The cement industry has contributed decisively to our national stability, not only through quality jobs and contributions to the treasury, but also by successfully meeting local demand and contributing to international exports, despite cost-related challenges."

Félix González appointed as president of ADOCEM

Dominican Republic: The Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM) has appointed Félix González as the president of its board of directors. He succeeds Adriano Brunetti in the post and will serve a term until 2023, according to CDN. González, a Colombian-Venezuelan national, holds over 45 years of experience in the cement sector. He has been the general manager of Cementos Santo Domingo since 2010.

Dominican Republic produces 5.1Mt of cement in 2020

Dominican Republic: The Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM) reports that the local sector produced 5.1Mt of cement in 2020. 4.4Mt was consumed locally and around 0.7Mt was exported, according to the El Día newspaper. The country has five integrated plants and two grinding plants.

Dominican Republic forecasts 8% fall in cement production in 2020

Dominican Republic: The Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM) estimates that local production fell by 8% year-on-year in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Julissa Báez, the executive director of ADOCEM, said this compared to a 16% drop in the construction industry generally, according to local media. She added that local cement plants were allowed to continue production during a local lockdown that started in March 2020.

Cement production in the Dominican Republic to grow by 8% to 4.8Mt in 2019

Dominican Republic: Adriano Brunetti, the president of the Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM), says that local production is forecast to grow by 8% year-on-year to 4.8Mt in 2019. His prediction was based on 12.5% growth in the construction sector in the first four months of the year, according to the Acento newspaper. He added that local cement producers have a production capacity of around 8Mt/yr. The country exports around 1Mt/yr to other countries in the Caribbean.

Growth expected in Dominican Republic cement sector in 2018

Dominican Republic: The Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM) says that the local industry is on track for 4.1% year-on-year growth in cement consumption in 2018. This follows a decrease of 2% in 2017, according to the Acento newspaper. The association’s president Rayza Rodriguez forecast the growth was likely to continue in the short to medium term.

Dominican Republic: The Dominican Association of Cement Producers (Adocem) swore in Carlos Gonzalez as its president for 2013 – 2014. Gonzalez, who is also president of Cemex in the country, joins Gabriel Ballestas of Cementos Argos as treasurer and Jose Caceres of Cementos Cibao as secretary.
