EMG to build US$300m cement plant in Egypt
14 June 2017Egypt: Islam Solaiman, the vice chairman of the Electro-Mechanical Design Group (EMG), says that the group plans to build a US$300m cement plant in Foukah, Marsa Matrouh. The plan follows the group securing cement licence prospectus documents and it has started preliminary studies, according to the Daily News Egypt newspaper. The plant will supply cement to the north-west Matrouh governate and it may export cement to Libya and other countries.
Egypt: Egyptian Cement has started negotiations to secure a US$221m loan to finance the construction of its first cement plant in Sohag province. The cement division of Egyptian Group is dealing with a consortium comprising the National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, CIB and Arab African International Bank, according to the Al Mal newspaper. The total cost of the new 2Mt/yr plant is estimated at US$276m. Egyptian Group’s chief executive officer Ahmed Abu Hashima set up Egyptian Steel in 2010.
ASEC sells Algerian asset
22 May 2017Algeria: ASEC Cement Company and ASEC Cement Djelfa Offshore have sold their 100% stake in ASEC Ciment Algerie to an Algerian investor for US$60m. ASEC Cement is based in Egypt, while ASEC Cement Djelfa and ASEC Ciment Algerie are based in Algeria.
Arabian Cement to spend US$7m on upgrades
08 May 2017Egypt: Arabian Cement has announced three upgrade projects with a budget of US$7m. The projects include the construction of a mechanical crane to feed the kiln of the first production line, a new system to feed the cement mills and a new coal mill, according to the Daily Egypt newspaper. The coal mill project was announced previously in mid-2016.
Greece: Titan Cement’s turnover grew by 8% year-on-year to Euro1.51bn in 2016 from Euro1.4bn in 2015. Its earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose by 28.7% to Euro279m from Euro216m. The group attributed its success to continuing growth in the US and a recovery in Egypt.
By region, the US was the main source of growth for the group providing 53% of sales and 52% of operating profit. Its turnover in the US grew by 169% in 2016 to Euro794m. In Greece cement consumption remained similar to 2015 and the group continued to export a large proportion of local production. Despite this both turnover and EBITDA fell. In southeast Europe the group reported mixed results with rising sales volumes, falling prices and turnover and rises in profitability. In Egypt the market picked up and grinding and solid fuels upgrades at Titan’s plants compensated for local currency devaluation. Subsequently, turnover grew by 3.5% to Euro249m. Finally, the group’s partly-owned subsidiary in Turkey, Adocim, reported a modest increases in profit despite local currency effects.
FLSmidth awarded project by El Sewedy Cement
07 March 2017Egypt: FLSmidth has been awarded an order from El Sewedy Cement Company to build a cement production line at Ain Soukhna in Suez Governorate. The order is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The full scope of the order includes an OK 39-4 vertical mill for raw grinding, EV 250x300 Hammer Impact Crusher, stacker and reclaimer systems for storage, QCX quality control system, ECS/ControlCenter control system, Rotax-2 rotary kiln with low NOx ILC calciner, Jetflex burner and a FLSmidth Cross-Bar cooler. The OK mill and Rotax-2 kiln will be the first of these models to be installed in Egypt. Additional equipment in the order includes planetary gear units from FLSmidth MAAG Gear, electrostatic precipitators and fabric filters from FLSmidth Airtech, a control system and plant automation from FLSmidth Automation and weighing and metering systems from FLSmidth Pfister.

Hoffmeier delivers ball mill to Misr Beni Suef Cement
21 February 2017Egypt: Hoffmeier Industrieanlagen has delivered a ball mill to Misr Beni Suef Cement. The mill has a diameter of 6m, a length of 17.3m and its weighs 190t. The installation of the mill will start in April 2017 and is to be commissioned by the end of the year. Hoffmeier will also support the customer with its installation knowledge during the assembly phase. The German engineering company produces industrial heavy machinery including tube mills and rotary kilns.
Egypt: Misr Beni Suef Cement has delayed the installation of a coal mill at its Beni Suef plant to the third quarter of 2017. Farouk Mostafa, managing director of the company, said that the delay has been caused by a shortage of US Dollars needed to pay to import the mill and its spare parts and general currency variations with the Egyptian Pound that has raised prices, according to Daily News Egypt. The mill was originally planned for December 2016.
Aumund wins order for six production lines in Egypt
11 January 2017Egypt: Aumund has won a contract to supply clinker conveying equipment for six production lines. The tender is part of a project by Chengdu Design & Research Institute of Building Materials Industry (CDI), a subsidiary of Sinoma International Engineering, to build the 6000t/day lines for the government. No value has been released for the order.
The lines will each be equipped by Aumund with four 650t/hr BWG belt bucket elevators and three 550t/hr BWZ chain bucket elevators. The machinery package also includes four 170t/hr BWG-L belt bucket elevators, one 80t/hr BWZ-L chain bucket elevator and six 375t/hr pan conveyors for each of the six lines. Altogether the order comprises 108 machines.
The new project in Beni Suef is to be completed by the end of 2020. The pilot phase of the new production lines is due to start as early as December 2017. Aumund will supply the machines to Egypt in three deliveries, between April and June 2017.
South Valley Cement to consider cost of second production line
06 December 2016Egypt: South Valley Cement is considering the cost of building a second production line following an increase in the cost of equipment from foreign suppliers due to the devualtion of the Egyptian Pound. The company’s management will meet in December 2016 to discuss the new 1.5Mt/yr line and how to pay for it, according to Daily News Egypt. The line will be built at the producer’s plant in Beni Suef’s industrial zone, increasing its overall production capacity to 3Mt/yr. It will take three years to build. South Valley Cement won a cement licence from the Industrial Development Authority in December 2016.
