Fauji Cement takes US$212m loan for cement plant expansions

06 January 2022

Pakistan: Fauji Cement has taken out a loan of US$212m from a consortium lead by Habib Bank Limited. The Business Recorder newspaper has reported that the funding will go towards cement plant expansion projects with a total cost of US$339m. Fauji Cement plans to expand its plant in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab, while its subsidiary Askari Cement plans to expand its plant in Nizampur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The company says that the projects will together increase its installed cement production capacity to 10Mt/yr.

Cementos Argos to launch US initial public offering

07 December 2021

US: Cementos Argos plans to begin trading publically in mid-late 2022 with the launch of an initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange.

The company said “The listing in the US will contribute to the purpose of fully capturing the business value of the company, optimising the capital structure and obtaining the necessary resources to continue executing the growth strategy that the company plans to achieve in that country as a result of the recent approval of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for US$1tn and the positive cycle expected for the construction materials industry in the residential, commercial and civil works segments during the next 10 years.”

Vicat agrees Euro250m financial agreement

France/US: Vicat Group has signed a Euro250m financing agreement taking the form of a private placement with US investors. The first tranche of the agreement covers Euro100m, with a maturity of 10 years, at a fixed rate of 1.27%. The second tranche is for Euro150m, with a maturity of 15 years, at a fixed rate of 1.57%. The group says it will use the funding to strengthen the liquidity of its balance sheet, extend the overall maturity of its debt and reduce its average debt ratio.

Udayapur Cement launches upgrade to plant

19 November 2021

Nepal: Udayapur Cement has commenced a US$42m upgrade and capacity expansion of its cement plant at Jaljale. The work includes replacing the shell of its 20m rotary kiln by the end of February 2022 and installing a reinforcement suspension preheater system, according to the Kathmandu Post newspaper. It will expand the plant’s capacity by 38% to 0.4Mt/yr from 0.29t/yr. The plant’s current equipment dates to 1988. Company spokesperson Laxman Pokharel said "Since the machines are old, we face frequent problems." He added that this has led to increased costs.

The Nepal government has agreed to loan Udayapur Cement US$34.4m, 80% of the project’s budget.

Holcim launches Strategy 2025 – Accelerating Green Growth

Switzerland: Holcim has launched its Strategy 2025 – Accelerating Green Growth plan to become a global innovative and sustainable building solutions leader. Under the plan, the group will expand its solutions and products sales to account for 30% of consolidated sales by 2025. During the three-year period, it aims to deliver continuous group sales growth of 3 – 5% and over-proportional recurring earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBIT) growth on a like-for-like basis. It is also targeting a 10% return on invested capital (ROIC), cash conversion of 45% and leverage below 1.5x.

As part of the new strategy, the group will aim to recycle 75Mt of materials, including 10Mt of construction waste, in its products in 2022 – 2024. It aims to invest Euro476m in green capital expenditure (CAPEX) and link 40% of its financing agreements to its sustainable performance.

Chief executive officer Jan Jenisch said “We delivered what we promised with our Strategy 2022 one year in advance, setting strong foundations for our next era of growth. With our new level of performance, we have the firepower to invest in solutions and products to make it 30% of our company, while leading the way in green building solutions from ECOPact green concrete to energy-efficient roofing.” He added “With our Accelerating Green Growth strategy, we are ready to seize the opportunities ahead on our way to becoming the global leader in innovative and sustainable building solutions.”

Cementos Molins renews sustainability-linked loan

Spain: Cementos Molins has secured a renewal of its sustainability-linked loan until December 2026 and increased its limit to Euro300m. The loan is linked to reductions in Cementos Molins’ CO2 emissions.

Chief financial officer Jorge Bonnin said “This innovation, together with the robust financial position and the strong cash generation, enables the development of the profitable and sustainable growth strategy through markets consolidation and development in new markets.”

Cemex secures US$3.25bn credit agreement

11 November 2021

Mexico: Cemex has successfully closed a US$3.25bn syndicated credit agreement. The group said that it used the proceeds to repay its previous US$2.65bn facilities agreement. The new agreement will require repayment in November 2026. As the facility is worth 23% more than its previous one, the company said that it will have a stronger liquidity position than previously, resulting in a favourable company risk and credit rating situation.

CEO Fernando Gonzalez said "This new credit agreement represents a major milestone in our path to investment grade as it is our first major syndicated unsecured bank agreement since 2009. It showcases Cemex’s continued access to diversified funding sources while further aligning our financing strategy to our leadership in addressing climate change.” He added “We are starting a new chapter for the company where we shift our strategic balance a bit more towards growth and the advancement of our Climate Action goals.”

NEQSOL Holding Ukraine to acquire Ivano-Frankivskcement stake

Ukraine: NEQSOL Holding Ukraine has filed an application to the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) to acquire a stake in Ivano-Frankivskcement. The group will take a loan from ‘leading international’ banks to pay for the stake.

NEQSOL Holding Ukraine manager Volodymyr Lavrenchuk, said “We are hopeful for an approval of the new deal by the AMCU so that we can welcome the high-tech enterprise Ivano-Frankivskсement into the NEQSOL Holding group of companies. We recognise the long-time outstanding results achieved by the Ivano-Frankivskсement management team and staff, who have created one of the most state-of-the-art cement plants in Europe.” He added “Our group of companies has successful experience in financing, including engagement of international financial institutions, which will help to secure the required investments for maintaining a high rate of growth of the cement plant.”

Penna Cement to launch US$207m initial public offering

19 October 2021

India: Penna Cement has received clearance for a US$207m initial public offering (IPO). The company will offer a US$33.3m stake for sale along with the fresh issue of US$173m. The Times of India newspaper has reported that the company plans to use US$73.3m of the fresh capital to settle its debts and to invest US$14m in the construction of second line at its Krishnapatnam grinding plant Andhra Pradesh. It will invest a further US$10.7m in an upgrade to raw material and clinker grinding mills at its Talaricheruvu cement plant, also in Andhra Pradesh.
