Uzbekistan: United Cement Group (UCG) has successfully completed the modernisation of the grinding units at its Kuvasay cement plant in Fergana. The work consisted of installation of protective armour on the inner surface of mill drums and mill ends and the replacement of bar partitions between chambers with sectional partitions. This increased the total mass of the cylpebs to 43t from 39t and improved the mills’ efficiency. UCG also upgraded the units’ dust removal equipment, replacing their original electrostatic precipitators with RIF–0500–03 K and FRKI 360 bag filters. The group carried out the modernisation in collaboration with the Uzsanoatkurilishmateriallari Association and the Fergana Regional Committee for Environmental Safety.
India: UltraTech Cement has successfully commissioned a second clinker line with a capacity of 2.7Mt/yr at its Hirmi cement plant in Chhattisgarh. The company says that it is on track to also commission a new 1.3Mt/yr grinding unit at the plant in mid-2022.
Austria: Lafarge Zement has announced the successful commissioning of a new raw meal mill at its Mannersdorf cement plant in Lower Austria. CEO Berthold Kren congratulated process engineer Nina Wolf and the Mannersdorf plant team for carrying out the Euro23m project.
Loma Negra inaugurates new line at L’Amalí cement plant
03 December 2021Argentina: Loma Negra has inaugurated the second production line at its L’Amalí cement plant. The El Cronista newspaper has reported that the InterCement subsidiary invested US$350m in the line, which expands the plant’s capacity by 40%. It previously started up the new line’s kiln in June 2021 but was later forced to suspend all clinker production at the plant due to a union dispute. It previously said it was close to commissioning the grinding mill and despatch unit for the line in August 2021.
Canada: France-based Fives FCB has secured a contract to upgrade the grinding unit at Ciment Québec’s Saint Basile integrated plant in Quebec. The supplier will install two FCB Horomill grinding workshops with FCB TSV 5000 THF classifiers, FCB aerodecanters and flash dryers and Fives TGT process filters. It said that its mills met the customer’s specifications: namely zero water use; minimum power consumption; data processing; and full automation with rapid recipe change.
Ciments Québec president and chief executive officer Luc Papillon said “After a thorough technical review of the various technologies available today for cement grinding, we have selected the Horomill, being confident that it is the best adapted solution for our multiple cements portfolio and our quest to reduce our cement environmental footprint.”
Tanzania: Huaxin Cement has commissioned the grinding system at its Maweni Limestone plant near Tanga. The China-based company acquired the company from Athi River Mining (ARM) Cement in mid-2020. It then invested US$145m on an upgrade to the unit and started trial clinker production in June 2020. The upgraded plant has a production capacity of 1.6Mt/yr. Huaxin Cement says this is the first time it has directly produced cement in Africa rather than exporting it there.
INC’s Vallemi cement plant to continue to dispatch cement despite grinding mill breakdown
22 November 2021Paraguay: State-owned Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) says that its Vallemi plant has suffered a grinding mill breakdown due to an ‘engine failure.’ The producer reassured customers that the issue will not affect the plant’s regular dispatches of cement.
Eagle Cement increases nine-month sales, earnings and profit in 2021
11 November 2021Philippines: Eagle Cement recorded consolidated sales of US$324m in the first nine months of 2021, up by 63% year-on-year. The company said that its cement volumes recorded double-digit growth during the period. Its earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were US$134m, up by 59% from US$83.9m. Its net profit meanwhile rose by 89% to US$102m from US$53.9m.
The company also announced that it has completed its expansion of its 7.1Mt/yr Bulacan cement plant in Luzon. The newly commissioned plant now boasts a fifth grinding mill, a third packing facility and a fifth cement silo, along with new supporting facilities.
Penna Cement to launch US$207m initial public offering
19 October 2021India: Penna Cement has received clearance for a US$207m initial public offering (IPO). The company will offer a US$33.3m stake for sale along with the fresh issue of US$173m. The Times of India newspaper has reported that the company plans to use US$73.3m of the fresh capital to settle its debts and to invest US$14m in the construction of second line at its Krishnapatnam grinding plant Andhra Pradesh. It will invest a further US$10.7m in an upgrade to raw material and clinker grinding mills at its Talaricheruvu cement plant, also in Andhra Pradesh.
Askari Cement orders three Gebr. Pfeiffer MVR vertical roller mills for Nizampur cement plant
23 September 2021Pakistan: Askari Cement has awarded a contract to Germany-based Gebr. Pfeiffer for the supply of three of its MVR vertical roller mills to replace the existing mills at its Nizampur cement plant. Two of the mills will be MVR 5000 C-4 cement mills with the capacity to grind 360t/hr of clinker to a fineness of 3250 blaine. The other mill, an MVR 5000 R-4 raw meal mill, will grind 520t/hr of clinker to a fineness of 12% R90µm. The Chinese contractor Hefei Cement Research & Design Institute will install an SLS V high-efficiency classifier on each of the mills. The upgraded plant is scheduled for commissioning in mid-late 2022.
