Holcim Azerbaijan to build cement terminal in Jabrayil in 2024
19 December 2023Azerbaijan: Holcim Azerbaijan plans to build a 2000t-capacity cement terminal in the Araz Valley Economic Zone in Jabrayil. AzerNews has reported that Holcim Azerbaijan will build the terminal in phases, commencing in 2024. The producer’s offering in the local market includes its ECOPlanet Inshaatchi and ECOPlanet Optimal reduced-CO2 cements. In a later phase, it will install a dry adhesive and ready-mix concrete batching plant at the facility. Planned investments at the site total US$2m.
Commercial director Sergiu Stoicov said "We aim to bring new methods to help the construction industry build sustainably. Through Inshaatchi and Optimal, we are taking a step in the race for CO2 reduction and the use of alternative raw materials. Holcim Azerbaijan is the first company in the Caucasus to offer green cement.”
Azerbaijan produced 3.42Mt of cement throughout the first 11 months of 2023. This represents a 4.1% year-on-year rise from 11-month 2022 levels. Meanwhile, clinker production rose by 10% year-on-year to 3.51Mt.
Dal Machinery & Design delivers new mill and drive to Holcim Azerbaijan’s Garadagh cement plant
04 July 2022Azerbaijan: Turkey-based Dal Machinery & Design has successfully delivered a ball mill and drive set to Holcim Azerbaijan’s Garadagh cement plant. The supplier says that the equipment will serve cement grinding operations at the plant.
Holcim Azerbaijan’s sales and profits drop in 2020
28 September 2021Azerbaijan: Holcim Azerbaijan recorded sales of US$59.2m in 2020, down by 16% year-on-year. Turan Information Agency News has reported that the producer’s net profit was US$24.5m, down by 23%. During the year, the company reduced its debt by 14% to US$67m from US$78m.
Holcim Azerbaijan begins cement exports to Georgia
14 July 2021Azerbaijan: Holcim Azerbaijan has exported its first of planned regular weekly shipments of cement to Gerogia. The Azer News newspaper has reported that transport partner ADY Express, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways, will carry out the orders. It has allocated 50 train cars to make the trip four times monthly, resulting in total shipments of 15,000t/month.
Azerbaijan: Holcim Azerbaijan, part of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim, has launched its participation in the Azerbaijan Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources’ National Green Marathon with the planting of 1000 trees at its Garadagh cement plant. Turan Information Agency News has reported that the initiative aims to plant 1 million trees nationally in 2021.
Technical director Ali Huseynov said, "We have a common goal and value - sustainable development. We should apply principles of sustainability in each work and in every step. We are ready to demonstrate our best practices in environmental protection.” He added, “Our work is not over. We should also care for these trees and install an irrigation system. For this purpose, the work necessary for treatment and use of the wastewater in the irrigation system has started, and with this we can save clean water, contributing to the environmental protection."
Staff changes at LafargeHolcim Russia and Holcim Azerbaijan
10 February 2021Azerbaijan/Russia: Holcim Azerbaijan has appointed Khalid Samaka as its chief executive officer (CEO). Previously he worked as the technical director at LafargeHolcim Russia since 2017.
Samaka has been succeeded as technical director at LafargeHolcim Russia by Artur Buzyurov. Previously he was in charge of cement plants in Kolomna and Voskresensk. He has worked for the company since 2001.
Azerbaijan: An unidentified sender has threatened executive board members of Switzerland-based LafargeHolcim subsidiary Holcim Azerbaijan and their families. Turan Information Agency has reported that an alleged assault was perpetrated against a non-Azerbaijani manager of the company. Holcim Azerbaijan said, “Apparently the transparent activity of our company interferes with the interest of criminal forces.” Law enforcement authorities have launched a full investigation.
Holcim Azerbaijan launches Unkial cement product
08 April 2019Azerbaijan: Holcim Azerbaijan has launched Unkial, a cement product offering water resistant properties in the concrete it makes. The product is being targeted for general usage, according to the Turan Information Agency. Production of the new product will meet local demand.
LafargeHolcim increases stake in Holcim Azerbaijan
01 October 2018Azerbaijan: LafargeHolcim has increased its stake in Holcim Azerbaijan to 76% from 66%. The move followed the decision by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to sell its 10% equity stake in the cement producer, according to ABZ News. Remaining shares in company are held by individual shareholders.
Holcim Azerbaijan launches Spesial Cement product
07 June 2018Azerbaijan: Holcim Azerbaijan has launched its Spesial 400 Cement product. The general-purpose cement product is intended for mid-strength concrete applications. It follows the launch of the Optimal 300 product in 2017.
