KCP appoints Indira Dutt as managing director

India: KCP has appointed Indira Dutt as its chairperson and managing director following approval by its shareholders. She succeeds V L Dutt, who died in February 2020, according to the Press Trust of India.

Indira Dutt holds a B.A. in economics from Madras University. She holds a number of directorships including Fives Cail - KCP Limited, Velagapudi Foundation, KCP Vietnam Industries Limited and V Ramakrishna Sons Private Limited. She was also the chairperson (CSR) member of finance committee and risk management committees of KCP. She is the president of the World Telugu Federation and Chairperson of Andhra Chamber of Commerce.

KCP is a conglomerate with businesses in the cement, heavy engineering, sugar and power industries. It operates two integrated cement plants in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh tenders for 12Mt/yr cement supply contract

18 March 2020

India: Representatives from Aditya Birla subsidiary UltraTech, Ramco Cements, India Cements, JSW Cement and KCP have met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy and other state officials to negotiate the sale of their products to construction companies working on public projects ‘at lower prices.’ The Hindu newspaper has reported that the state forecasts a year-on-year rise in its annual cement consumption of 67%, to 30Mt in 2020 from 18Mt in 2019. India Cements’ vice chair and managing director Narendra Srinavasan said that all planned infrastructure projects ‘ought to be implemented in order to bail out the industry from the turmoil it has been undergoing.’

KCP starts up two new lines

18 February 2019

India: KCP has commenced commercial cement at the new 1.7Mt/yr line at its Muktyala plant in Andhra Pradesh. With this expansion, the total capacity of the plant has reached 4.3Mt/yr. The company has also started up its 0.5Mt/yr grinding plant project in Naidupeta, Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh.

KCP unit has lowest specific energy consumption in India

03 September 2018

India: The KCP Ltd cement unit II at Ramakrishnapuram in Krishna district has bagged the ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’ award from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The award is given to the cement plant with lowest specific electrical energy consumption for cement production compared to the national average and lowest specific heat consumption for clinker production as against the industrial average.

Chettinad Cement and KCP planning plants in Andhra Pradesh

India: The state investment promotion board of Andhra Pradesh has approved proposals by Chettinad Cement and KCP to build cement plants in the state. Chettinad Cement plans to spend US$210m towards building a grinding plant in Vizag and a plant in Guntur, according to the Economic Times newspaper. These projects are scheduled to start production in March 2019. KCP has allocated US$83m towards its project in Krishna with the first phase of operations due to start in mid-2018. However, media commentators have noted that the south of India is facing cement production over capacity.

KCP Cement to expand Muktyala plant

30 August 2016

India: KCP Cement is set to build a new production line at its Muktyala cement plant in Andhra Pradesh. The company intends to invest US$60m towards increasing the unit's production capacity to 3.52Mt/yr from 1.86Mt/yr. The upgrade will be completed by the end of 2017, according to the Hindu newspaper. Other planned works include spending US$7.4m towards building railway sidings for the plant.

KCP to expand production at Muktyala cement plant

India: KCP plans to expand the production capacity of its cement plant at Muktyala in Andhra Pradesh to 3.5Mt/yr from 1.8Mt/yr. The company said in a statement that the upgrade is expected to cost US$60m. KCP operates two integrated cement plants in Andhra Pradesh.

Competition Commission of India closes case against 11 cement companies

India: The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has closed a case of alleged cartel activity among 11 cement companies due to a lack of evidence. The companies were named as Penna Cements, India Cements, Bharathi Cements, Dalmia (Bharat) Cements, Bhavya Cements, Zuari Cements, Ultratech Cements, Jaypee Cements, Ramco Cements, KCP Cements and My Home Cements.
