19 September 2017

India: FLSmidth has signed a contract to deliver an OK 52-4 cement mill system for India Cements’ Shankar Nagar plant in Tamil Nadu. The engineering company will carry out the system engineering, procurement and supply machinery for a cement production capacity of 200t/hr of Ordinary Portland Cement at 3500 Blaine. The supply also includes a ROKSH 82 separator and gear units from FLSmidth product company, MAAG Gear.

Intercem to supply ball mill to Cem’In’Eu

18 September 2017

France: Intercem has won an order to supply Cem’In’Eu with a cement grinding plant. Intercem will supply a Ø 3.20m x 10.00m EGL closed circuit ball mill with a IVS 62 vertical air separator. The groundbreaking ceremony for the unit will be held in October 2017 and the start of production is scheduled for April 2018.

The first compartment of the mill will be equipped with lifting liners to aid coarse grinding. The second compartment will be equipped with a three-step classifying liner system to provide ball sorting with a fine grinding action. An intermediate diaphragm will allow the adjustment of material flow levels to optimise material level in both compartments. The mill will be powered by a 1300kW side drive. Product collection will be arranged by direct separation using a 70,000m3/hr air jet filter.

Intercem will be responsible for plant engineering and documentation, including mechanical, civil and electrical engineering, programming works and documentation, mechanical assembly works and their supervision as well as mechanical and process commissioning and the training for operators. No value for the order has been disclosed.

Cem’In’Eu is a new cement producer with projects planned for sites at Tonneins in Lot et Garonne, at Port Fluvial de Chalon-sur-Saône in Saône et Loire and at Port d’Ottmarsheim in Haut-Rhin. The company plans to invest around Euro20m at each site. It also has development projects in Poland and in the UK.

Hanson Cement to reuse vertical roller mill from Spain

23 August 2017

UK: Hanson Cement intends to reuse a 0.65Mt/yr vertical roller mill from a site in Bilbao, Spain for an upgrade to its Padeswood cement plant in north Wales. More information on the Euro22m project to demolish existing cement storage and loading facilities, erect a new mill and make changes to its railway facilities have emerged in planning documents. The cement producer intends to mothball three older mills at the site, continue to use a third (Mill 3) and install the mill from Bilbao. New cement rail loading facilities and silos will also be built to allow 4000 – 5000t/week of material to be transported from the site. In addition the railway line at the site will be modified and extended.

The subsidiary of HeidelbergCement says that the proposed development is intended to stop it transporting excess clinker by road from Padeswood to its Ketton plant for grinding into cement. It is also being implemented to meet increasing demand in the UK. Subject to planning approval by the local council the upgrade is planned for completion by the end of 2019.

Broken gearbox at coal mill reduces production at Penden Cement Authority plant

07 July 2017

Bhutan: A broken gearbox at a coal mill at the Penden Cement Authority plant in Gomtu has reduced its production. The plant has had intermittent mechanical issues with the gearbox in one of its two coal grinding mills since April 2017 leading to a breakdown in May 2017, according to the Kuensel newspaper. Then in June 2017 a similar problem occurred with the main drive gear in its other coal mill. The plant has been producing cement using imported clinker since then although it shut down completely for several days in late June 2017.

So far the cement producer has been unable to procure replacement parts. It has also been reported that the company has had difficulty importing clinker from India following the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Cemtec successfully transports 170t mill to Bavaria

01 June 2017

Germany: Cemtec has successfully transported a 170t cement grinding mill from its headquarters in Enns, Austria to a client in Bavaria. The transported equipment had an internal diameter of 4.6m, an outside diameter of 5.2m and a length of over 17m. Due to the size of the mill the transportation could not be carried out on motorways and the engineering company was forced to use smaller roads and inland waterways include the River Danube. Extra challenges included using additional haulage vehicles to cope with inclines of up to almost 14%, temporarily removing electricity and telephone cables in certain locations, laying road slabs at crossroads and shutting a motorway while the mill crossed it. The total transportation time took eight days.
