KV Vishnu Raju appointed as chair of Sagar Cement
28 September 2022India: Sagar Cement has appointed KV Vishnu Raju as its chair. He succeeds K Thanu Pillai in the post.
Vishnu Raju is a graduate in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology in Tiruchirapalli and he holds a master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Michigan Technological University in the US. He worked as an executive director and then managing director of Raasi Cements in the 1990s. He was later on the board of Anjani Portland Cement as its chair and managing director from 1999 to 2014.
Sagar Cement operates three integrated plants and two grinding plants in Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Pradesh Telangana.
Orissa state government approves grinding plants projects by My Home Industries and Ramco Cements
06 September 2021India: The state government of Orissa has approved cement grinding plant projects proposed by My Home Industries and Ramco Cements. My Home Industries plans to build a new 3Mt/yr grinding plant at Badchana in Jajpur. The Orissa Diary newspaper has reported the value of the producer’s planned investment as US$89.0m. Ramco Cements has proposed a 0.9Mt/yr at Haridaspur in Jajpur. The unit will cost US$26.0m and employ 60 local people.
Dalmia Cement (Bharat) to hire more locals
27 January 2021India: Dalmia Bharat subsidiary Dalmia Cement (Bharat) has shifted its recruitment procedures towards hiring more local people in Maharashtra, Bengal, Orissa due to labour shortages throughout the Covid-19 outbreak. The Economic Times newspaper has reported that local labour now makes up a majority of the workforce at multiple cement plants belonging to the company.
Dalmia Bharat group head of human resources Ajit Menon said, "In our Bengal plant, we have 90 - 95% local workers now versus 20 - 25% earlier, while in Orissa it is almost 100% local labour. Covid-19 has accelerated the intake of local workforce.” He added, “This has also given us the opportunity to give employment to people in the locations neighbouring our factories - many of whom are tribal people and are from underprivileged communities."
Petron Engineering to build silos for Shree grinding plant
05 January 2017India: Petron Engineering Construction has received a letter of intent to build silos and other miscellaneous work at Shree Cement’s cement grinding plant near Cuttack in Orissa. The contract is valued at just under US$5m, according to Accord Fintech. In September 2016 Petron received letter of intent from Shree Cement for civil work at cement plants in Aurangabad, Bihar and Gulbarga, Karnataka with a contract value of just under US$7.5m.
