Ethiopia: Ethiopia has increased its cement production capacity to 20Mt/yr following the inauguration of Pioneer Cement’s expansion project in Dire Dawa city, according to The Ethiopian News Agency.
Minister of Mines Habtamu Tegen said that the country has been increasing its infrastructure and building large cement plants such as Lemi Cement to meet national demand, and that it was also commissioning four coal processing plants to further increase supply, including to neighbouring markets.
The Pioneer Cement expansion was reportedly the result of a partnership between Ethiopian and Chinese investors. Pioneer Cement general manager Leon Zone said that the factory had been operational for 16 years, and that the expansion project had increased the plant’s production capacity by 0.6Mt/yr and created 550 direct jobs.
Pakistan: Pioneer Cement has appointed Talha Saif as its company secretary. He succeeds Abdul Wehab in the role. The company also appointed Jan Mohammad as Head of Internal Audit. He replaces Jamal Uddin.
Pakistan: Pioneer Cement's sales were US$95.7m in the first half of its 2023 financial year. This corresponds to a 19% year-on-year rise from US$80.2m in the first half of the 2022 financial year. The producer overcame 20% growth in its cost of sales to US$53.2m from US$44.2m, to record a profit after tax of US$6.72m, up by 54% from US$4.36m.
Pakistan: Pioneer Cement has begun power generation at its upgraded 24MW coal-fired power plant. Link News has reported that the plant previously had a power generation capacity of 12MW.
Pioneer Cement commissions 3.7Mt/yr integrated cement plant
17 January 2020Pakistan: Pioneer has announced the completion of a new 3.7Mt/yr integrated cement plant with a 12MW waste heat recovery (WHR) power plant and 24MW coal-fired power plant. It said that production and dispatch would start ‘in due course.’ It commenced construction of the facility in 2017.
Raysut Cement to start building 2Mt/yr plant in Georgia
08 October 2019Georgia: Oman’s Raysut Cement is set to start building a new 2Mt/yr integrated cement plant near Tbilisi with an investment of US$200m. Raysut Cement’s subsidiary Pioneer Cement is managing the project. It owns a concession to a limestone mine in the country that will be used to support the proposed plant. Construction work at the site is scheduled to start in mid-November 2019.
Pioneer Cement’s sales fall by 4% to US$62m
08 October 2019Pakistan: Pioneer Cement’s sales fell by 4% year-on-year to US$62m in the year to 30 June 2019 from US$64.5m in the same period in 2018. Its costs and expenses grew by 7% to US$3.4m from US$3.2m. Its profit after taxation halved to US$5m from US$10.5m. The cement producer operates a 2Mt/yr integrated plant at Chenki in Punjab Province.
Pakistan: Aly Khan, the chairman of Pioneer Cement, has blamed falling profits on competition on prices and rising costs of raw materials. The company’s profit after taxation nearly halved year-on-year to US$16.9m in the year that ended on 30 June 2018 to US$31.1m in the same period in 2017. Its sales revenue fell slightly to US$111m due to a steep decline in clinker sales. Despite this, cement sales volumes grew by 9% to 1.5Mt from 1.4Mt.
UAE: Raysut Cement has appointed Afzaal Qadri as the Plant Manager of its subsidiary Pioneer Cement Industries. Afzaal will report to Raysut’s chief executive officer (CEO) Joey Ghose. Qadri, aged 49 years, holds over 30 years of experience of the Cement Industry. He started his career in the cement industry in 1987 and has worked in various engineering and operational roles in the US, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Pakistan. Most recently he worked by HeidelbergCement in the US.
Arif Hameed Dar appointed as head of Pioneer Cement
26 June 2018Pakistan: Pioneer Cement has appointed Arif Hameed Dar as its chief executive officer (CEO). He replaces Syed Mazher with effect from 1 July 2018. Abdul Wahab has also been appointed as the company secretary in place of Waqar Naeem.
