Eagle Cement increases nine-month sales, earnings and profit in 2021
11 November 2021Philippines: Eagle Cement recorded consolidated sales of US$324m in the first nine months of 2021, up by 63% year-on-year. The company said that its cement volumes recorded double-digit growth during the period. Its earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) were US$134m, up by 59% from US$83.9m. Its net profit meanwhile rose by 89% to US$102m from US$53.9m.
The company also announced that it has completed its expansion of its 7.1Mt/yr Bulacan cement plant in Luzon. The newly commissioned plant now boasts a fifth grinding mill, a third packing facility and a fifth cement silo, along with new supporting facilities.
Cementos Polpaico plans Cerro Blanco cement plant upgrade
08 November 2021Chile: Cementos Polpaico has submitted an environmental impact study for a US$60m upgrade of its Cerro Blanco cement plant in Tiltil, near Santiago. Business News America has reported that the proposed work consists of the installation of a new precalciner, an expansion to its four limestone quarries and the establishment of a new filtered tailings deposit and 3000t cement silo.
The producer hopes to launch the project in January 2023 in order to commission the upgraded plant before 2026.
Cementos Cosmos to upgrade Ourense grinding plant with new compressor
28 September 2021Spain: Cementos Cosmos plans to install a new screw compressor in the cement discharge system at its Ourense grinding plant in Galicia. The producer says that the new equipment will improve the energy efficiency of the process of discharging cement from railway tanks to storage silos. The cost of the work is Euro23,500, towards which Cementos Cosmos has received a Euro8140 grant from the European Reagional Development Fund (ERDF) under its A New Way to Build Europe programme.
Claudius Peters supplies conveyor and silos for Schretter & Cie’s Vils Cement plant
15 September 2021Austria: Germany-based Claudius Peters has supplied a conveyor and silos for Schretter & Cie’s integrated Vils Cement plant in Tirol. In the first part of the project Claudius Peters Projects delivered an aeroslide conveying system from the cement mill to the existing silos, including silo bottom aeration systems. For the second part, it built a silo group consisting of three 3500m³ units with expansion chamber technology equipped with truck loading facilities. Each of the silos can be operated at a loading capacity of 250t/hr by a mobile loader with a travelling range of 10m.
Spain: Cementos Molins has completed the acquisition of a white cement terminal in the Port of Alicante from Turkey-based Çimsa. The unit includes a 10,000t silo and it will be able to supply over 50,000t/yr from the site. The producer also plans to use the terminal to bolster exports from its 0.7Mt/yr integrated white cement plant at Kairaouan in Tunisia, which is operated by subsidiary Société Tuniso-Andalouse de Ciment Blanc (SOTACIB). It distributes products from this plant to over 15 countries.
Schwenk Latvija plans Euro34m upgrade to Broceni cement plant
05 February 2021Latvia: Schwenk Building Materials Group subsidiary Schwenk Latvija plans to invest Euro34m in installing a new 170t/day grinding mill and 12,500t silo at its Broceni cement plant. The Baltic Business Daily newspaper has reported that the company aims to reduce energy consumption with the new mill.
The group acquired Schwenk Latvija from Cemex in February 2019 as part of a Euro340m expansion into the Baltic and Nordic markets. The company’s 2019 profit was Euro36.4m.
Lafarge France completes Euro3m upgrade to Larrieu concrete plant
02 February 2021France: LafargeHolcim subsidiary Lafarge France has completed the renovation of its 70m3/hr Larrieu concrete plant in Toulouse, Haute-Garonne Department. The renovated facility is equipped with six cement silos, two of which are dedicated to low-carbon cements for the production of ECOPact low-carbon concrete. It also has eight aggregate hoppers, including one dedicated to recycled concrete aggregates, and two mixer loading stations with forward truck access for safety. The total cost of the upgrade was Euro3m.
Haute-Garonne sector head Vincent Pelloquin praised the project’s speed and ability to rebuild the concrete plant in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
Lafarge France is presently engaged in a systematic modernisation of its concrete plants.
Japan/Indonesia: Taiheiyo Cement says that its board has approved and concluded its deal with Semen Indonesia to buy a 15% stake in its subsidiary Solusi Bangun Indonesia (SBI) for around US$220m. As part of the agreement, SBI’s Tuban plant will increase its export capacity by building a new jetty and silos. It will then export 0.5Mt/yr of cement to Taiheiyo Cement’s subsidiary in the US. The Japanese cement producer said that is focusing on markets in South-East Asia as part of its sustainable business development strategy in response to projected long term declining cement demand in Japan.
Sementsverksmidjan commissions Efla to investigate dust spill
25 January 2021Iceland: Sementsverksmidjan has commissioned engineering company Efla to investigate a dust spill which occurred in early January 2021. The cement importer says that Efla will review its processes, assess impacts and advise on any measures to prevent the recurrence of such an accident.
The company said, “Following the accident, information has also emerged that the incident lasted longer than previously thought. This information has not been confirmed and is new to the company, but could mean that more cement has been released into the atmosphere than had previously been estimated. The cement factory takes this information seriously and will continue to work with Efla and the insurance company to fully analyse the matter.”
LafargeHolcim demolishes silo at Port of Algeciras
18 January 2021Spain: LafargeHolcim has successfully demolished a 78.5m high silo at its Los Barrios Port Terminal in the Port of Algeciras. The company is currently dismantling its unit at the port. A specialised company was hired by the cement producer to conduct the operation following a survey.
