India: Prism Cement has taken delivery of a pendulum cooler supplied by Germany-based IKN at its Prism cement plant in Maharashtra. The new equipment will replace the 6.1Mt/yr plant's existing air beam technology cooler. The supplier says that this will help to improve the efficiency of waste heat recovery (WHR) processes at the plant.
Greece/US: Titan Cement Group has made new venture capital investments in two US-based disruptive technology suppliers. The cement producer enlarged its investment in energy storage specialist Rondo Energy, which has developed the Heat Battery. The technology enables cement plants and other industrial operations to access a constant supply of electricity using captive renewable energy sources. It also invested in venture capital firm Zacua Ventures, which handles a portfolio of companies involved in developing optimisation, automation and Construction 4.0 technology, including products relevant to the cement industry.

ThyssenKrupp Polysius delivers Polysius booster mill for Mountain Cement's Laramie grinding plant
21 July 2023US: ThyssenKrupp Polysius, a subsidiary of Germany-based thyssenkrupp, has delivered a Polysius booster mill to Mountain Cement's Laramie grinding plant in Wyoming. The Eagle Materials subsidiary will take delivery of further ancillary equipment, including material handling, process gas management and machine protection systems, throughout mid-late 2023. The supplier said that the mill will help to increase the Laramie plant's flexibility. It will also provide site services and technical support for optimisation and maintenance for two years after commissioning, also slated for 2023.
ThyssenKrupp Polysius' project manager Matthew Burchfield said "This is a very important and interesting project for ThyssenKrupp Polysius. This is the first booster mill system sold in the US and one of the first booster mills worldwide. We are tasked with a very tight engineering and supply schedule. ThyssenKrupp Polysius is working closely with Mountain Cement and its engineering teams."
Cementos Inka commissions Pisco grinding plant
10 July 2023Peru: Cementos Inka has announced the successful commissioning of its new 800,000t/yr Pisco grinding plant. The new plant is equipped with Christian Pfeiffer grinding and separation equipment. El Comercio News has reported that the producer invested US$55m in the plant. This exceeded previous budgets by 15 - 22%, due to coronavirus-related costs rises. This latest commissioning triples Cementos Inka's installed capacity to 1.2Mt/yr. General manager Carlos Choy estimated that the producer's market share has risen to 10% from 3.9%.
Choy said that the producer's next project will be the construction of a 1 - 1.5Mt/yr kiln line to produce clinker at the site.
Lafarge Emirates Cement hires Turboden for Fujairah cement plant waste heat recovery plant
07 July 2023UAE: Lafarge Emirates Cement, part of Holcim, has awarded a contract to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group subsidiary Turboden to supply and install a 10MW waste heat recovery (WHR) system at its Fujairah cement plant. The system relies on ENGIE Solutions' organic Rankine cycle technology. The supplier says that the installation will reduce the 3.2Mt/yr cement plant's energy-related CO2 emissions by 29,000t/yr (28%).
Turboden CEO Paolo Bertuzzi said "We are proud that Holcim Group, already our customer for three other WHR plants, has again chosen Turboden for this first project in the UAE. At COP 28, this year in the UAE, we will have the opportunity to present this energy-saving and CO2-reducing project to raise awareness in energy intensive industries."
World: Menzel Elektromotoren says that it has successfully supplied a new MEBSSL-type three-phase slip ring mill motor to a cement plant. The supplier modeled the new motor on a preexisting machine at the site, with a 710mm-high shaft and 2000kW rated power capacity. It is also equipped with a short-circuiting and brush-loading device. It said that this will reduce costs and increase efficiency.
Menzel Elektromotoren is currently building a new motor plant at Henningsdorf in Brandenburg, Germany, which will also function as its new headquarters from 2024.
Alba Group to build lime plant in Kosovo
23 June 2023Kosovo: Alba Group has announced plans to build a lime plant in Kosovo, the first in the country. The company has appointed Switzerland-based Maerz Ofenbau to execute the project. The supplier said that it looks forward to many years of cooperation with Alba Group.
Fives Services Gulf inaugurates Bahrain workshop
23 June 2023Bahrain: Fives Services Gulf has held the inauguration ceremony for its Bahrain workshop. The facility includes offices, warehouses and machining, parts production and repair facilities. The site first entered operation amid Covid-19 restrictions in early 2021.
Fives Services Gulf chief executive Frederic Gicquel said "We are proud to be part of the industrial development of Bahrain and support the government's efforts to improve the foreign investor experience. This workshop will enable us to provide better quality services to our clients in the region and contribute to the sustainable growth of the industrial sector."
The subsidiary of France-based Fives employs 134 people.
Türkiye: Italy-based Bedeschi says that it received an order for four pipe conveyers and an SHL 26/1000 ship loader from Medcem Cement. Medcem Cement will install the equipment as part of an expansion to its Yeşilovacık cement and clinker terminal in Mersin Province. The conveyors will form a 1km-long system with a conveying capacity of 1000t/hr of cement or 1350t/hr of clinker.
Bedeschi said that it previously supplied a ship loader of the same specifications for the Yeşilovacık terminal.
Bekabadcement to expand Bekabad cement plant
09 June 2023Uzbekistan: Bekabadcement is carrying out a 'large-scale' upgrade to its 0.7Mt/yr Bekabadcement plant in Tashkent Region. The producer said that the upgrade involves a 20% capacity expansion of the plant's production line to 2500t/day. Austria-based Unitherm CemCon supplied burners for the upgraded line, while China-based Beijing Triumph International Engineering supplied heat exchanger components and a KC 4.1-0955 cooler. The upgrade also involves the installation of new kiln lining, and will transition the plant's cement production from wet to dry process. Germany-based Christian Pfeiffer previously upgraded the Bekabad cement plant's grinding unit in April 2023.
General director Vasily Korobkin "We see that (parent company) United Cement Group (UCG) is interested in the modernisation and development of the enterprise. The group adheres to international standards, so all plans for the development of the plant are built accordingly." He concluded "We expect to become a modern and successful enterprise in Uzbekistan which is capable of becoming a major player in the cement industry of Central Asia.”
