Taiwan: South Korea-based Hana Technology has won a contract to supply US$33.4m-worth of equipment to Taiwan Cement. Local press has reported that the order will supply a cement plant upgrade by the producer.
Court fines Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe
02 November 2022Zimbabwe: A court has ordered Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe to pay US$321,000 to supplier Rubtech Machinery and Spares, in addition to costs. The Standard newspaper has reported that the producer incurred a debt to Rubtech Machinery and Spares for its services in November 2020. Fossil Mines since acquired Lafarge Cement Zimbabwe from Switzerland-based Holcim in June 2022.
Germany/Australia: Calix subsidiary Leilac has concluded a licence agreement with Heidelberg Materials for use of its carbon capture technology. The cement producer holds the licence indefinitely and for all operations across the globe. It said that Leilac’s technology offers effective capture of unavoidable cement plant CO2 emissions with minimal operational impact.
Heidelberg Materials currently has one Leilac system installed at its Lixhe plant in Belgium. It expects to commence construction of a second unit at its Hanover plant in Germany in 2023. Together, the installations will be able to capture 125,000t/yr of CO2. The producer says that both projects pave the way for future full-scale deployment of Leilac’s carbon capture model.
Yamama Cement commissions new cement plant
27 October 2022Saudi Arabia: Yamama Cement has commissioned its second cement plant, with 20,000t/day in capacity across two clinker lines. The producer invested US$1.25bn in the plant's construction, which was carried out by Germany-based ThyssenKrupp. The facility is equipped with seven raw materials crushers, a 3.7km-long limestone conveyor belt, 110,000t of storage capacity, four Quadropol roller mills, two Dopol preheater towers, two Polro rotary kilns, two Polytrack clinker coolers, three 100,000t clinker silos, four Polycom high-pressure roller mills, six 22,590t and 25,000t cement silos and 22,000m³
in water storage basins. The new plant is situated in the eastern Arabian Desert, 80km from Riyadh.
Yamama Cement also operates the 6.4Mt/yr Al Karj Cement plant, 70km from Riyadh.
Robert Bunting appointed as head of Bunting
26 October 2022US: Bunting has appointed Robert Bunting as its president and chief executive officer. He succeeds his father, Bob Bunting, in the role. Bunting Senior has now become chair of the company.
Robert Bunting joined Bunting’s Elk Grove Village magnet sales team in 2007. He later became the company’s Global Product Manager for Metal Detection in 2014 and then General Manager of Bunting Elk Grove Village in 2016. He previously sat on the business intelligence committee for PMMI (The Association for Packaging and Processing) and is the marketing director of the Process Equipment Manufacturers' Association (PEMA) at present. He holds a degree in business management at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri and previously worked for Sun Life Financial.
Bunting is a designer and manufacturer of magnetic separators, metal detectors, magnets, magnetic assemblies and magnetising equipment. The company has its headquarters in Newton, Kansas. It was originally founded in 1959 in Chicago, Illinois by Walter F Bunting, the grandfather of Robert Bunting.
Deha Tech to commission Tashkent grinding plant in January 2023
25 October 2022Uzbekistan: Turkey-based engineering company Deha Tech says that it is 95% of the way to completion of its construction of a new grinding plant in Tashkent. The supplier says that it expects to commission the new facility in late January 2023. It thanked employees and partners for all of their efforts towards helping it realise the project. Deha Tech secured an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the work in 2020.
Turkey: MEDCEM plans to expand its Silifke cement plant's clinker capacity by 90% to 6.5Mt/yr. Germany-based Aumund will supply the upgrade with 41 different machines. The package comprises six belt bucket elevators, two chain bucket elevators, four pan conveyors and 11 drag chain conveyors, with capacities up to 900t/hr. The order also includes 13 silo discharge gates for belt conveyors and five telescopic chutes for truck loading. The supplier will deliver the goods in October 2022, for scheduled commissioning in January 2023.
Ciments Calcia commences Euro285m Airvault cement plant upgrade
17 October 2022France: Heidelberg Materials' subsidiary Ciments Calcia has laid the foundation stone for its construction of a Euro285m CO2 emissions-reducing upgrade to its Airvault cement plant in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Ciments Calcia first published its plans for the installation of a new 4000t/day production line to replace both existing lines at the Airvault plant in 2021, with commissioning scheduled for mid-2024.
Germany-based ThyssenKrupp secured the order to supply a 1200t/hr double-shaft hammer crusher, a longitudinal blending bed, a 370t/hr Quadropol QMR² 45/23 vertical roller mill, a 10,000t raw materials tangential blending silo, a single-string, five-stage Dopol cyclone preheater with integral calciner for alternative fuels (with the possibility of conversion to oxyfuel), a Polytrack clinker cooler, a solid recovered fuel preparation line and dedusting systems for the project.
FLSmidth secures Euro150m sustainability-linked loan
13 October 2022Denmark: Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) has granted a 150m loan to FLSmidth to support technological developments for the growth of sustainability in the cement and mining sectors. The supplier said that the loan tracks three core sustainability indicators: FLSmidth's ratio of partners with SBTi-certified science-based targets, FLSmidth’s own Scope 1 and 2 CO2 emissions and its products' Scope 3 impacts.
Chief financial officer Roland Andersen said “With our MissionZero pledge, we are fully committed to developing technologies and solutions that will enable the mining and cement industries to move towards zero emissions by 2030. As sustainability is an integral part of everything we do, it is only natural for us to also link our financing to our sustainability ambitions. This is a first step in this direction, and we are very pleased with the long-term commitment provided by NIB."
Wright Engineering upgrades Lhoist's Whitwell lime plant
13 October 2022UK: Wright Engineering has installed new inlet sealings on a kiln at Lhoist's Whitwell lime plant in Derbyshire. The new configuration increases the distance between the kiln's leaf segments and inlet to 400mm. The supplier says that the increased distance from the flow of incoming material will alleviate spillage issues in the kiln.
