Pakistan’s cement dispatches fall in October 2022
07 November 2022Pakistan: Cement dispatches declined by 18.5% year-on-year across Pakistan in October 2022, according to data from the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers’ Association (APCMA). Total cement dispatches during October 2022 were 4.25Mt, compared to 5.22Mt in October 2021. Local dispatches fell by 3.98Mt in October 2022 from 4.60Mt in October 2021, a fall of 15.5%. Exports fell by 40.7% from 611,000t in October 2021 to 362,000t in October 2022.
During the first four months of the current fiscal year, which began on 1 July 2022, Pakistan’s total cement dispatches - domestic and exports - were 13.9Mt, down by 23.1% from more than 18Mt during the corresponding period of the prior fiscal year. Domestic dispatches during this period were 12.5Mt against 15.9Mt a year earlier, a reduction of 21.4%. Exports were 36.0% lower than in the first four months of the 2021 - 22 fiscal year, falling to 1.38Mt.
Cahya Mata Sarawak reassures customers amid cement shortage
31 October 2022Malaysia: Cahya Mata Sarawak has informed its customers that its cement despatches will be 'back to normal' by 6 November 2022. The producer's closure of its 1Mt/yr Kuching cement plant for maintenance, followed by unexpected raw materials supply issues, has caused a shortage of cement in western Sarawak State. Bernama Daily Malaysian News has reported that a 14-day delay to raw materials deliveries to the Kuching plant ensued due to heavy rains.
The producer said “We would like to apologise for the shortage of cement, and will strive to ensure a steady supply of cement to all of our customers.”
Cahya Mata Sarawak has successfully maintained regular supply of cement to other areas of Sarawak, including Bintulu, Miri and Sibu, through despatches of cement from its Bintulu grinding plant.
Argentine cement despatches grow by 11% to 8.54Mt so far in 2022
09 September 2022Argentina: Total despatches of cement grew by 11% year-on-year to 8.54Mt in the first eight months of 2022 from 7.67Mt in the same period of 2021. Data from the Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland (AFCP) shows that local despatches increased by 11.5% to 8.47Mt but exports fell by 10% to 67,800t.
Chilean cement despatches fall by 10% to 2.25Mt so far in 2022
09 September 2022Chile: Despatches of cement fell by 10% year-on-year to 2.25Mt in the first seven months of 2022 from 2.51Mt in the same period in 2021. Data from the Cámara Chilena de la Construcción (CCHC) shows that cumulative annual despatches have been falling month-on-month since January 2022.
India: Gujarat Sidhee Cement has stopped its kiln for a temporary period of 15 – 20 days due to high clinker inventory levels. Cement grinding and despatch will continue unabated. The cement producer operates an integrated plant at Sidheegram in Gujarat.
South Korea: Korea Cement Association (KCA) members’ cement shipments fell by 90% over two days to 13,000t on 8 June 2022 from 180,000t/day prior to a truck driver strike which began on 7 June 2022. The association claimed that producers lost US$23m-worth of sales in the first two days of the strike, which also affects other industries. 17 ready-mix concrete batching plants in the Seoul area have suspended operations. The Korea Herald newspaper has reported that the association representing the construction industry has also voiced concerns about the supply situation.
Argentina: Data from the Asociación de Fabricantes de Cemento Portland (AFCP) shows that cement shipments grew by 7% year-on-year to 2.89Mt in the first quarter of 2022 from 2.71Mt in the same period in 2021. Local consumption of cement increased at a similar rate but exports rose by 18% to 31,040t from 26,276t.
US: Drake Cement despatched 80,000t of cement in March 2022, its highest ever figure. The company has congratulated colleagues on the record volumes.
Moroccan domestic cement sales total 14Mt in 2021
31 March 2022Morocco: The Professional Association of Cement Manufacturers (APC) has recorded domestic cement deliveries of 14Mt in 2021. The figure corresponds to 58% of the industry’s 25.8Mt/yr capacity.
Colombian cement production grows by 16% to 13.8Mt in 2021
09 February 2022Colombia: Cement production grew by 16% year-on-year to 13.8Mt in 2021 from 11.8Mt in 2020. Data from DANE, the Colombian statistics authority reports that despatches rose by a similar rate to 13.0Mt from 11.2Mt.
