Aixergee holds seminar on production optimisation
02 November 2018Germany: Aixergee has held its annual workshop-seminar on process optimisation for cement producers. The two-day event took place in Aachen in early October 2018. It covered improvements in the cement production process, including production increases, emissions regulations, alternative fuel burning and related topics. Aixergee uses a modelling toolbox from over 200 optimisation projects it has been involved with and a particular focus was on methods such as CFD (computational fluid dynamics), flowsheet simulation and data analysis.
UK: Aggregate Industries has signed a Euro3.3m deal with Siemens for technology and training services.
The agreement positions Siemens as Aggregate Industries’ preferred technology supplier across the company’s 330 UK sites. The partnership is intended to improve efficiency, make maintenance savings, and reduce the company’s carbon footprint. Siemens technology solutions include inverter drives, gearboxes, motors and control panels.
Siemens will also provide access to training and education facilities for all Aggregate Industries apprentices at Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire. The focus on training will be supported regionally with Siemens supplying safety panels, which are to be utilised for staff training sessions across Aggregate Industries’ regional site network.
“This agreement positions Siemens as our preferred UK technology supplier, ensuring that we benefit from enhanced operational efficiencies over the long-term. This will deliver cost savings and improve system reliability. The technology solutions we will install will also help us reach our sustainability goals, as we seek to reduce the impact we have on the environment,” said Gerard Cantwell, Head of Procurement Europe at Aggregate Industries.
Spain: LafargeHolcim has chosen its Carboneras cement plant in Almeria as a refrence training centre for its European operations. The plant was selected due to its port and high level of staff expertise amongst other reasons. A group of LafargeHolcim engineers from Poland, France, the UK, Romania, Croatia, Greece and Serbia have all recently visited the site for a training course.
Christian Pfeiffer runs training seminar
21 September 2017Germany: Christian Pfeiffer has run a training seminar for cement plant workers at its headquarters in Beckum. Over the four-day course attendees learned about developments in grinding and separation technologies and different grinding techniques. The seminar also included a visit to a cement grinding mill at the Wotan cement plant in Üxheim-Ahütte. Christian Pfeiffer supplied and put this unit into operation in 2010.
Tarmac awarded Bronze Corporate Partner status by the Institution of Chemical Engineers
05 September 2017UK: Tarmac has been presented with Bronze Corporate Partner status by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). A presentation was made at the company’s Tunstead cement plant.
The Bronze award from IChemE demonstrates a commitment by Tarmac’s cement and lime business to advance the profession through various activities. A IChemE Accredited Company Training Scheme (ACTS) currently runs from the site, and has five graduates enrolled across the business. The scheme provides engineers with practical skills training relevant to their roles at Tarmac, and puts steps in place in order for them to achieve Chartered Chemical Engineer status.
“We’re delighted to accept this status and absolutely recognise importance of working with organisations with a focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. We strive across the whole of our business to provide training and development opportunities for our employees, and this is a fantastic opportunity to take this practice a step further with official recognition,” said Mike Eberlin, managing director of Tarmac’s cement and lime business.
Ghacem launches academy and app
06 June 2017Ghana: Ghacem has launched its first ever cement academy and a mobile app that is designed to equip block makers across the country and expand their knowledge regarding cement usage. According to the Commercial Director of Ghacem, Nana Philip Archer, the latest innovation by the company stemmed from three principles; Developing a premium brand, professionalism and the fostering of easy transactions among its stakeholders, especially customers.
“It is not just about producing quality blocks but we want to embark on an educational drive and that is the reason why we have launched the Ghacem Academy,” said Archer. “We are doing this just so we expand the knowledge boundaries of how to use Ghacem cement.”
Arab Union for Cement and Building Materials opens office Jordan
23 January 2017Jordan: The Arab Union for Cement and Building Materials (AUCBM) has opened a regional office in Amman. The office will be managed by Khaled Tarawneh, the General Manager of Arab Company for White Cement Industry and an AUCBM board member. The office is intended to support member companies of the AUCBM towards training workers at cement plants and supporting the AUCBM with its events.
Möllers Group opens new academy
03 June 2016Germany: Möllers Group has opened a new training academy at its headquarters in Beckum. The 1250m2 facility cost Euro3m and it took nine months to build. It will start training operations in June 2016. The official opening of the site took place on 31 May 2016.
