The Business Mirror newspaper has reported that the projects advance the producer’s aim to reduce its energy-related CO2 emissions by 65% between 2018 and 2030.
Holcim Philippines president and CEO Horia Adrian noted the 20% reduction in overall CO¬2 emissions that the company has already achieved up to 2022 and said “This project further strengthens our ability to support Holcim's net zero direction and the country's nationally determined contributions.”
Solidia Technologies to sell carbon credits via 3Degrees
26 October 2023US: Solidia Technologies has appointed climate consultancy 3Degrees to manage the measurement, verification and sale of carbon credits for CO2 emissions reductions generated using Solidia Technologies products. Users of the products can deploy the credits against their Scope 3 emissions from cement and concrete, as well as to compensate for other greenhouse gas emissions.
Solidia Technologies chief executive officer Russell Hill said "By partnering with 3Degrees to issue carbon credits, Solidia is providing a mechanism for the marketplace to invest in technologies that will accelerate and enable global carbon emissions reduction.”
FLSmidth awarded new cement service contract in Latin America
25 October 2023Latin America: Denmark-based FLSmidth says it has been awarded a new service contract with an unnamed cement producer in Latin America. The new contract builds on an existing relationship between the two companies and will last a period of 18 months. It will cover the complete production process, from quarry to packing plant. FLSmidth says that will support the customer in improving overall equipment efficiency and thus plant productivity. The scope of supply also includes training and mentoring of plant personnel to ensure successful execution of a jointly developed strategy long after the initial period of the contract ends. No value for the deal has been disclosed.
Jose Gil, Head of Service Execution - USA and Canada, FLSmidth, said “This contract is the result of conversations inspired by a reliability audit in the third quarter of 2022. From that, an action plan was developed in which FLSmidth has responsibility for the execution of activities in operations and the customer takes care of other support areas.” He added “The result is a tailored solution, encompassing a range of factors, including maintenance, reliability and operations, that will ultimately deliver much more efficient and productive cement plants.”
Romania: Holcim Romania has successfully upgraded pyroprocessing and cement grinding equipment at its Câmpulung cement plant in Argeș County. Germany-based KHD Humboldt Wedag supplied equipment for the upgrade. For the plant’s pyroprocessing line, this included a downcomer duct, water injection system and induced draught fan, as well as an upgrade to the clinker cooler. Meanwhile, the grinding line has received a new SKS Z 2500 dynamic separator, cyclones, process ducts and separator fan. The supplier says that the upgrade has increased the Câmpulung plant’s clinker capacity and the efficiency of its operations. The work took 14 months to complete from the signing of the contract in mid-2023.

Colacem appoints Armis for cybersecurity services
16 October 2023Italy: Colacem has selected US-based Armis’ Armis Centrix AI-based cyber exposure management platform to protect online assets in its cement plants. Italian Industry News has reported that protected assets include IT equipment, operational technologies and internet of things (IoT) devices.
Colacem security manager Luca Salemmi said “We requested support from Armis because we realised that we did not have visibility on all devices. What we immediately liked about Armis Centrix is its ability to evaluate the level of vulnerability of each device and to provide a priority order for immediate intervention so that it resolves the most critical risks.”
ThyssenKrupp Polysius wins CIMPOR flash activator contract
13 October 2023Ghana: CIMPOR has appointed Germany-based ThyssenKrupp Polysius to build a 1280t/day flash activator for clay. The activator will supply calcined clay for use in the production of cement with a clinker factor as low as 50%. This can reduce the cement’s CO2 emissions by 40% compared with ordinary Portland cement (OPC). The supplier’s contract covers engineering, supply of core equipment and supervision of the project. The equipment includes parts for clay handling, a hammer mill, a flash dryer and preheating and cooling equipment, as well as storage silos. The activator will be natural gas-fired.
Polysius Activated Clay product owner Leo Fit said "Our technology is not only more environmentally friendly, but also creates cost benefits for our customers like CIMPOR. In many regions, limestone is scarce and clinker has to be imported at high cost. At the same time, suitable clay sources are available. The increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is leading cement manufacturers to rethink. They need an alternative that is cost-efficient and at the same time provides high-quality cement. This is exactly what Polysius activated clay offers."
Capsol Technologies wins two further carbon capture contracts in Europe
