Cemex USA shows off new train at Victorville cement plant

US: Cemex USA has unveiled a new train at its Victorville cement plant in California. The train was built by Knoxville Locomotive Works it comes with an MTU-4000 Series engine. It will be used to transport clinker at the plant. The engine has been selected to meet US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board Tier 4 Emissions requirements. A portion of the cost of the new train was covered by a federal grant secured with the assistance of the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District.

Mitsubishi Cement’s Lucerne Valley plant receives grant to buy new railcar mover

US: Mitsubishi Cement’s Lucerne Valley plant in California has received a US$0.32m grant for emission-reducing equipment from the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District. The grant has been used to buy a new 2018 Viking Trackmobli diesel mobile railcar mover at the site to replace two older pieces of equipment. The railcar mover was purchased with grant funds through AB 2766, which authorises air districts to impose a US$4 vehicle registration fee to meet the requirements of the California Clean Air Act.

Chip Mong Insee Cement commissions 9.8MW solar power system

Cambodia: Chip Mong Insee Cement has commissioned a 9.8MW solar power system provided by Cleantech Solar. The system includes a 2.8MW floating solar power plant deployed on the plant’s reservoir and 7MW installed across multiple rooftops of the site. In addition, the deployment of the floating solar system will shield the reservoir from wind and the direct hot midday sun which is expected to reduce water loss through evaporation, contributing to Chip Mong Insee Cement’s water conservation efforts.

Cleantech Solar is a provider of renewable energy to companies in Southeast Asia and India. Based in Singapore, it owns and operates more than 120 solar power plants across the region, representing over 200MW of projects, with the majority in operation and the rest under construction and development.

Akhangarancement installs Wikov gearbox on rotary kiln

27 February 2019

Uzbekistan: Akhangarancement, part of Russia’s Eurocement, has installed a new Wikov gearbox on the rotary kiln at its plant in Akhangaransky as part of a US$1.5m upgrade project. Other work included upgrades to the clinker conveyors, the sludge line, the cooler, the heat exchanger and other equipment. A new production line is currently being built at the 2Mt/yr plant. It is scheduled for commissioning in 2020.

Eurocement spending Euro5m on upgrades to Maltsovsky plant

Russia: Eurocement is spending around Euro5m on upgrades to its Maltsovsky plant as part of its winter repair schedule. The unit is planning to increase its production output and modernise three of its four kilns. Work is also planned for raw and cement grinding mills. The plant has a cement production capacity of 4.7Mt/yr.

Holcim Philippines completes upgrade at La Union cement plant

Philippines: Holcim Philippines has completed an upgrade at its La Union cement plant in Bacnotan. The unit now has a cement production capacity of 1.8Mt/yr from 1Mt/yr previously, according to the Manila Times newspaper. The improvements have been completed two months ahead of schedule. The upgrade is intended to support the development of North Luzon.

The expansion is part of a US$300m production capacity drive at its plants in the country. It plans to increase its national production capacity by 30% to 13Mt/yr by 2020. The second phase of the project involves installing new kilns, mills and a waste-recovery system at its plants in Bulacan and Misamis Oriental provinces.

JSW Cement to invest over US$275m to meet 20Mt/yr capacity target by 2020

India: JSW Cement plans to invest over US$275m towards meeting its target production capacity of 20Mt/yr by 2020. Following this achievement it intends to launch an initial public officer (IPO), according to the Economic Times newspaper. The company aims to reach its capacity target through expansions and upgrades at its existing plants.

At present the cement producer has a capacity of 12.6Mt/yr. It will add 1.8Mt/yr at Dolvi, 1.8Mt/yr at Vijayanagar, 1.2Mt/yr at Jajpur in Odisha and 1.2Mt/yr in Salboni. Following the IPO it will build new capacity in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Bashundhara Industrial Complex to upgrade grinding plant

Bangladesh: Bashundhara Industrial Complex plans to spend US$53m towards upgrading its Mongola grinding plant to 3Mt/yr from 2.1Mt/yr at present. The upgrade is scheduled to be commissioned in 2020, according to the Daily Star newspaper. Bashundhara Group holds the second largest cement market share at 8.48% through its two brands, Bashundhara Cement and Meghna Cement. Once the upgrade at Mongola is completed is will have a total production capacity of 7.56Mt/yr.

Georgian prime minister officially opens upgrade to Kaspi cement plant

12 February 2019

Georgia: Mamuka Bakhtadz, the prime minister of Georgia, has officially opened a US$100m upgrade to HeidelbergCement’s Kaspi cement plant. Work on the new dry production line at the site started in mid-2016. A filtration system and equipment for continuous emission control were installed to allow for online monitoring of the plant's dust and emission volumes. The project was supported by the Georgian Co-Investment Fund and Honeywell Partners.

JSW Cement completes upgrade at Dolvi plant

12 February 2019

India: JSW Cement has completed a 1.2Mt/yr upgrade to its Dolvi plant in Maharashtra. The unit now has a cement production capacity of 2.2Mt/yr, according to the Hindu newspaper. The plant produces Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Concreel HD, a high early strength cement product. The company is aiming to increase its production capacity to 20Mt/yr with a number of on-going expansion projects.
