India: The Confederation of Indian Industry has certified Sagar Cements’ Bayyavaram grinding plant as an Excellent Energy Efficient Unit with an award at the Energy Management Excellence Awards 2022. The facility was also among recipients of the confederation’s GreenCo Star Performer Awards 2022.
Lucky Cement wins Environmental Excellence Award 2022
18 August 2022Pakistan: The Pakistan National Forum of Environment and Health (NFEH) has recognised Lucky Cement’s sustainability successes with a prize at the 19th Annual Environment Excellence Awards 2022. The company’s comprehensive environmental management and monitoring plan covers its solid waste, noise pollution and emissions, including particulates. It says that this is essential to preserving the ecosystem in which it operates.
Chief operating officer Amin Ganny said “We believe in environment-friendly practices and are committed to conserving the environment. Implementation of sustainability into our core business operations has always been one of our main objectives.”
India: The Indian Ministry of Mines and Indian Bureau of Mines have awarded UltraTech Cement Five Star ratings for 10 limestone mines across India. Assessment took place within the Indian mining Sustainable Development Framework, which quantifies sustainability, efficiency, land use and resettlement, besides other social impacts.
Carbon Clean chair and CEO Aniruddha Sharma is BusinessGreen UK Entrepreneur of the Year
04 July 2022UK: Judges at the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards sustainable innovation award ceremony have named Carbon Clean chair and CEO Aniruddha Sharma as Entrepreneur of the Year. The judging considered innovators from across UK business. Carbon Clean said that the award is testament to Aniruddha’s vision and achievements, along with those of co-founder Prateek Bumb and the team that they have built.
The company said “At Carbon Clean, we are at the forefront of CCUS innovation, delivering products that can genuinely change the world. Under Aniruddha's impactful leadership we are taking major strides towards our goal of delivering industrial decarbonisation on a gigatonne scale by the mid-2030s.” It added “Congratulations to our fellow BusinessGreen Leaders Awards winners!”
Indonesia: The Indonesia Ministry of Environment & Forestry and the provincial government of Aceh have awarded Solusi Bangun Indonesia’s Andalas cement plant a Green PROPER rating. Green is the highest rating in the PROPER awards scheme, which assesses businesses’ environmental and social impacts.
In June 2022, Solusi Bangun Indonesia won the Sustainable Business Awards 2022 award in the category Global Initiatives for Significant Achievement in Sustainability Strategy. The group says that its focus remains on providing sustainable solutions, managing its climate impact, developing the circular economy, preserving water, protecting nature and supporting people and communities.
US: The Portland Cement Association (PCA) has received the 2022 Energy Star Partner of the Year award from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. This is the third year in a row that PCA has earned this award.
"We are proud to have won this award for the third consecutive year. This latest award confirms our commitment to reducing cement sector CO2 emissions through longstanding, long-term efforts to improve energy efficiency," said Michael Ireland, president and chief executive officer of the PCA. "This award shows once again that the cement and concrete industries are leading the way toward a more sustainable future, even as demand for our products grows."
The 2022 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award follows the launch of PCA's Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality in October 2021. In addition to PCA's recognition, two member companies also earned awards. CalPortland and Cemex won Partner of the Year awards in the energy management category. This is the fifth year in a row that Cemex has won this award, and the 18th successive year for CalPortland.
India: The Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) has named Ambuja Cements’ Rabriyawas cement plant as winner of its National Safety Award (Mines). Its winning initiatives include its Behaviour Based Safety training programme and Reward & Recognition employee engagement programme. Ambuja Cements said that the award confirms that Ambuja's Zero Harm policy has borne fruit.
Argos Florida Cement secures Slag Cement Association’s Durability and Infrastructure awards
04 April 2022US: Cementos Argos subsidiary Argos Florida Cement has won the Slag Cement Association (SCA)’s Durability and Infrastructure awards at its 2022 Sustainable Concrete Project of the Year Awards. The producer won the awards for its supply of slag cement to two projects in Florida in 2021. Its involvement in the American Bridge Company’s SR 679 Pinellas Bayway Bridge – Structure E replacement won it the Durability award, while its involvement in Superior Paving’s State Road 52 realignment. Argos Florida Cement congratulated its customers, who also received the awards.
UK: Edie has named Holcim’s chief sustainability and innovation officer Magali Anderson as laureate of its Sustainability Leader of the Year award at the Sustainability Leaders Awards 2022. The awards recognise leaders from across all sectors of UK industry. Naturalist Chris Packham hosted the event in Westminster, London.
Japan: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering has won the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s highest prize for contributions to industrial decarbonisation, the Minister’s Award, for its development and commercialisation of its CO2 capture system. The system is based on KS-21 solvent technology, developed in partnership with Kansai Electric Power, and the company’s Advanced KM CDR Process capture model. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering has successfully supported cement industry customers in implementing the system.
