Alpacem Zement Austria appoints Christine Gröll as head of material flow management and process control
23 August 2023Austria: Christine Gröll has taken over the role of head of material flow management and process control at Alpacem Zement Austria. The producer created the new role for Gröll, who will lead a dedicated team of eight people to achieve net zero CO2 cement production at the company’s Wietersdorf cement plant by 2035. The team will focus on alternative raw materials and alternative fuel (AF) substitution.
Gröll is an Ulm University-trained chemist with over four years’ experience working within Alpacem Zement Austria. Prior to that, she worked as a research associate for Schwenk Zement in Germany, on the development of its Celitement hydraulic binder.
Alpacem Zement Austria’s technical director Florian Salzer said "It fills us with particular pride that we were able to fill the new department with talented employees from our own company. This clearly underlines the potential that exists in our team and emphasises the extensive expertise that we have built up. We are also pleased that the department management is in the competent hands of Christine Gröll, who brings an incomparable mix of research drive and practical experience.”
New CFO for James Hardie Industries
23 August 2023US: James Hardie Industries, the world's largest producer and marketer of high-performance fibre cement and fibre gypsum building solutions, has announced the appointment of Rachel Wilson as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective 16 August 2023. She was appointed after Jason Miele stepped down as CFO. He will remain at James Hardie for three months as an advisor to the CEO for special projects, and will subsequently leave the organisation.
Wilson has joined James Hardie following a successful career of over 25 years in the global technology, business services and consumer products industries. Most recently, she served as Executive Vice President, CFO and Treasurer at R1 RCM. Previously, she held leadership positions at global companies such as Iron Mountain, Jarden Corporation and Avon Products. She earlier served in corporate finance and merger and acquisition investment banking roles at Citigroup and Morgan Stanley.
Commenting on the appointment, James Hardie Industries CEO Aaron Erter said "Rachel has deep experience in corporate finance, capital markets and leading and developing high performing teams, along with a demonstrated focus on driving profitable growth. Rachel is clearly a valuable addition to the leadership team and will help us as we pursue our strategic growth plans."
Wilson said "It's an honour to join James Hardie, a leader in the building products industry with an outstanding culture of business and product innovation. China: The board of directors of West China Cement has approved the appointment of Fan Zhan as a non-executive director. Fan is a senior accountant and deputy head of finance at Anhui Conch Cement. He was previously head of finance at Anhui Tongling Conch Cement. He holds a graduate degree from Tongling University.
Fan Zhan replaces Wang Jingqian on West China Cement’s board of directors, following the latter’s resignation.
UK: Holcim subsidiary Aggregate Industries has announced the appointment of Thierry Davila as manager of Cauldon cement plant in Staffordshire. Davila has 27 years’ experience in the cement industry, including working on projects affecting Cauldon cement plant since November 2021. Aggregate Industries says that he brings a wealth of global experience and a proven track record in technical capability. In his new role, Davila will focus on strategic operations, including ensuring that the plant can navigate market challenges while providing innovative solutions to customers.
Aggregate Industries CEO Dragan Maksimovic said “Thierry brings an enormous amount of global experience of the cement industry to Cauldon. Having been part of the Holcim Group for almost 20 years, I am confident in Thierry’s ability to drive the business forward and meet the demands of an ever-changing market. CII role for Dalmia Cement head
15 March 2023India: Hakkimuddin Ali, business head for Maharashtra at Dalmia Cement (Bharat), has been elected as vice chair of the Maharashtra branch of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The CII serves as the connecting link between the industry and the government of India.
Ali said that he will use his new position to increase business and industry opportunities in Nagpur, Aurangabad and other cities in Vidarbha, identify problems faced by the industry and suggest necessary remedies to the state government.
Estelle Bletry appointed Geocycle’s new sales manager
15 March 2023France: Estelle Bletry has taken on the role of sales manager for Holcim’s waste management subsidiary Geocycle. Bletry held different positions in Lafarge France between 2007 and 2019. She worked as product development manager and business developer materials and solutions at waste management company Hesus from 2019 to March 2023. Bletry studied marketing at IUT Cergy-Pontoise in Paris.
Belgium: Carmeuse Group’s lime plant engineering subsidiary TECforLime has appointed Gaetan Ly to the role of head of digital development. Ly previously served as group process engineer since 2014. He has also worked for geotechnical engineering company G-tec. Ly holds a master’s degree in engineering and geotechnical engineering from the University of Liège.
Holcim appoints Steffen Kindler as chief financial officer
23 November 2022Switzerland: Holcim has appointed Steffen Kindler to the role of chief financial officer (CFO), effective from 1 May 2023. Kindler joins the cement producer from Nestlé Deutschland, where he is currently CFO, having held various key business roles in Europe and North America throughout his 25-year career at Nestlé. These included roles of global responsibility for key corporate functions such as investor relations and mergers and acquisitions. Kindler holds a diploma in business administration and computer science from the University of Mannheim and attended Nestlé's leadership programme at London Business School.
Holcim CEO Jan Jenisch said “I am excited to welcome Steffen Kindler to the team. With his vast financial expertise and geographic experience, I am confident he will fit in well with Holcim’s performance-driven culture. Current CFO Géraldine Picaud will oversee the completion of the group’s full-year 2022 results and conduct a thorough handover, before continuing her career outside of the company.

GCC announces three new senior leadership appointments
02 November 2022Mexico: GCC has made new appointments to the roles of project director, chief financial and planning officer and general counsel, effective immediately. Luis Carlos Arias will now serve as project director to the company's Odessa, US, cement plant expansion. Arias previously served as the group's chief financial officer. Maik Strecker steps into the role of chief financial and planning officer. Strecker joined GCC as chief planning officer in 2020. He has two decades' previous experience in roles spanning mergers and acquisitions, business development, product line management, operations and sales and marketing. Lastly, Cesar Conde will serve as GCC's general counsel. Conde has worked for the group since 2006.
GCC's CEO Enrique Escalante said "I am confident these executives bring proved strategic and execution leadership to the Company, and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead."
Betolar appoints Riku Kytömäki as president and CEO
02 November 2022Finland: Geoprime producer Betolar has named Riku Kytömäki as its new president and CEO. Riku's professional background is in materials technology, having served as president and CEO of Exel Composites and held senior positions in Switzerland-based ABB. Kytömäki holds board positions in several international companies and organisations, including polymers producer Teknikum Group. He has management experience in Asian markets where Betolar has expanded during the past few years.
Betolar said "Riku will lead Betolar through its next growth phase as its Geoprime solution is entering active production. Geoprime is a next-generation, low-carbon solution and sustainable alternative to cement: it delivers 80% fewer emissions and 100% cement-free building materials with the same performance as traditional concrete."
