GICA starts to market cement from its Sigus plant
23 July 2019Algeria: Société des Ciments de Sigus, part of Groupe Industriel des Ciments d’Algérie (GICA), has started marketing Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) from its 2Mt/yr integrated plant at Sigus, Oum El Bouaghi. The unit started producing cement in the first quarter of 2019, according to the L'Expression newspaper. The project had an investment of around US$427m. Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions was awarded the contract to build the plant in early 2017.
Algeria: The value of clinker exports grew to US$30m in the first five months of 2019 from US$3.2m in the same period in 2018. The country is hoping to increase its exports of cement and clinker to around US$500m/yr by the mid-2020s, according to Télévision Algérienne. It is facing a significant production overcapacity with the manufacturing base expected to reach 40.6Mt/yr in 2020. Consumption was 26Mt in 2016.
Dal Machinery & Design wins kiln shell order from LafargeHolcim Algeria’s Oggaz cement plant
12 June 2019Algeria/Iraq: Dal Machinery & Design (DMD), part of Turkey’s Dal Engineering Group, has been awarded a contract to supply a kiln shell to LafargeHolcim Algeria’s Oggaz cement plant. The shell has an internal diameter of 5mm. The shell will be manufactured from a single part, with one single welding in the axial direction. It is expected to be delivered by September 2019. No value for the order has been disclosed.
Other recent orders for DMD include the supply of two kiln shells for LafargeHolcim’s Bazian cement plant at Sulaimani in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The kiln shells were manufactured with a diameter of 5.2m. Delivery was made at the beginning of March 2019. DMD’s other kiln shell clients in Iraq included the Gasin cement plant in 2018. It also supplied a mill tunnion to LafargeHolcim’s Kerbala cement plant.
Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria’s Oggaz cement plant has been awarded ISO 14001:2015 certification for environmental management, according to the El Watan newspaper. The plant has a total cement production capcaity of 3.8Mt/yr, comprising 3.2Mt/yr of gray cement and 0.6Mt/yr of white cement. The unit also has a waste treatment facility.
Algeria: Algematco Steel, part of Rahmoune Group, has ordered a modular Ready2Grind MVR vertical roller mill from Germany’s Gebr. Pfeiffer. Erection and commissioning of the unit are scheduled for early 2020. No value for the order has been disclosed.
The cement grinding plant includes: a feed module with material dosing and transport; a MVR 2500 C-4 type vertical roller mill with a SLS 2650 BC ctype lassifier and drives; plant filter, fan and hot gas generator; electric switchgear with plant control system; silo plant; packing and palletising plants; and laboratory equipment. The plant is designed to produce different cement types at a production rate of 50 - 70t/hr.
Algeria: LafargeHolcim Algeria has made two new export shipments from the Port of Oran. The first was a consignment of 15,000t of bulk grey cement from its Oggaz cement plant to West Africa, according to the El Moudjahid newspaper. The second was a dual consignment of 5000t of white clinker and 25,000t of grey clinker from the same plant to Cameroon. The cement producer said that the white clinker export was the first of its kind from Algeria.
Algeria: Ciment Lafarge Souakri (CILAS) has started exporting a consignment of 30,000t of cement to Cameroon. The operation was handled via the port of Annaba, according to Radio Algeria. It is the cement producer’s sixth large-scale export operation to another Africa country. The subsidiary of LafargeHolcim is using Lafarge Trading to supply logistical support.
Algeria exports over 0.5Mt to Europe
24 April 2019Algeria: The Algerian cement industry has exported over 0.5Mt of clinker to Europe as part of a shift to international markets. Samir Setiti, the president of Groupe des Ciments d’Algérie’s (GICA) Sodismac subsidiary, said that the company was currently transporting 15,000t of clinker from its Beni Safi plant to the Ivory Coast from the Port of Ghazaouet, according to the L’Expression newspaper. This is part of 15 export operations the cement producer has conducted since May 2018.
China: Sinoma International Engineering has won a prize in the National Quality Engineering Awards organised by the China Construction Enterprise Management Association for its work on the Biskria Cement plant in Algeria. Sinoma supplied a second production line for the plant. It was commissioned in 2018.
Algeria: GICA Group’s Hadjar Soud cement plant has made its first 37,000t clinker shipment to the Ivory Coast via the Port of Annaba. It is part of a 0.2Mt/yr consignment planned for 2019 from the unit, according to the Algeria Press Service. Overall, GICA intends to export 1.5Mt of clinker to African countries in 2019.
