Flender celebrates ‘125 Years of Future’
12 June 2024Germany: Flender celebrated its 125th anniversary on 10 June 2024. The company reflected on the role of its forward-looking approach in making it market leader in industrial drive technology and a pioneer in industrial transformation and sustainable business practices.
CEO Andreas Evertz said "We have always been and will always be a large Flender family. Whether employees, customers, suppliers, partners or owners – today we all feel like Flenderans. I am incredibly proud to be part of this team and to advance the energy transition with you. Because without drive technology and Flender, nothing moves in this world."
Australia: Cement Australia has commemorated the 100th anniversary of the start of operations at its Railton cement plant in Tasmania with a centenary dinner.
Production manager Garry Bissett said "When it opened up in 1923, they built the small kiln, and it was only capable of cement production of 25,000t/yr; now we're producing 1.4Mt/yr." He added that the workforce has fallen to less than half of its original size of 300 people, to 140. Bissett concluded "We're doing some major work, with a lot of capital upgrades in the near future."
Germany: Heidelberg Materials has celebrated the 150th anniversary of its founding with a ceremony under the slogan 150 Years of Progress. Throughout its existence to date, the company has grown from 35 employees in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, to 51,000 employees across 50 countries.
CEO Dominik von Achten said “150 years of progress, innovation and expertise are both an incentive and an obligation to help shape a more sustainable future for generations to come.” He added “We also want to make this a tangible experience here in Heidelberg where our company is based. That is why today marks the start of our anniversary campaign New Meeting Points of Innovation for Heidelberg. In the coming weeks and months, meeting places will be created in the Heidelberg city area to encourage exchange and innovative discussions. For this purpose, we want to set up a total of 150 benches made of sustainable building materials, and plant trees.”
Sunchon cement plant celebrates 50th anniversary
03 May 2023North Korea: The Sunchon cement plant near Pyongyang is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding. President Kim Il Sung visited the site in May 1973 before construction started, according to the Korean Central News Agency. Cement from the plant has been used to build the West Sea Barrage, Kwangbok Street, Ryomyong Street, the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station and additional ‘monumental edifices.’ Other the years of its operations workers at the site have been awarded the Order of Kim Il Sung and Order of Kim Jong Il, the title of Labour Hero, the title of Merited Calcinations Worker and other forms of recognition.
Germany: Intercem Engineering is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary on 14 April 2023. The group was originally founded over 50 years ago when it started by selling used machines to the cement industry. Anther subsidiary, Intercem Installation, was founded in 2007.
At present, Intercem Group consists of Intercem Engineering, Intercem Installation, both based in Oelde in Germany, and Intercem Cement, based in Zug in Switzerland. The company’s production plant is also located in Oelde. The three companies are wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Switzerland-based Intercem Holding. The group currently employs around 50 people, mainly engineers and technicians.
Intercem offers services in cement plant construction from a single source. This ranges from individual components to upgrades of existing plants up to complete cement plants. It exports around 80% of its services with its main sales markets in West Africa, France, Sweden and Germany.
Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers celebrates 75 years of Dominican cement production
10 January 2023Dominican Republic: The Dominican Association of Portland Cement Producers (ADOCEM) has declared 2023 a year of strength in the cement industry, as it celebrates the 75-year anniversary of the start of cement production in the country. CNIN News has reported that the Dominican Republic's cement industry contributed US$764m/yr to the national economy, 0.8% of gross domestic product (GDP).
ADOCEM president Félix González said “The cement industry has contributed decisively to our national stability, not only through quality jobs and contributions to the treasury, but also by successfully meeting local demand and contributing to international exports, despite cost-related challenges."
US: Holcim US’ Lafarge Ravena cement plant in New York State has launched a celebration of six decades’ successes on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the plant’s groundbreaking ceremony. 1000 people attended the ceremony on 19 May 1961, where New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller broke ground on the then Atlantic Cement Company’s new US$64m facility.
Addressing the crowd, Rockefeller said “The enormous production capacity of this plant will undoubtedly draw many large and small companies to the environs, and, as a result, employment will rise considerably.”
Today, the Lafarge Ravena cement plant directly employs 160 local people.
RHI Magnesita celebrates 10th anniversary of Leoben Training Centre Cement’s opening
23 February 2022Austria: RHI Magnesita is celebrating the tenth anniversary of first opening its Training Centre Cement in Leoben, Styria. The centre supports the regional cement industry with RHI Magnesita’s knowledge and experience of refractory bricks and mixes installation. It has held more than 50 instructive courses.
Centre leader Peter Steinkellner said “We are very pleased that more than 550 professionals from various countries have attended our trainings in the past 10 years.”
Tana celebrates 50th anniversary
30 March 2021Finland: Tana has celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding in 1971. It marked the occasion by setting an ambitious growth target of Euro100m within the next ten years from Euro40.0m in 2020. It said that the ‘open-minded and innovative’ tradition which it has maintained over the past 50 years will continue in future. Tana is a producer of waste shredders.
Instituto del Cemento Portland Argentino announces Vision 2030 – a Decade of Action talks
15 October 2020Argentina: The Instituto del Cemento Portland Argentino (ICPA) has announced that a series of ten talks, entitled Vision 2030 – a Decade of Action, will take place in late October 2020. It says that the presentations, “will provide a space for reflection on 10 key topics on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals agenda.”
The event is also a celebration of ICPA’s 80th anniversary.
