Bahamas: Cementos Argos has supplied nearly 10,000t of cement, accounting for 85% of the total required for the construction of Disney Cruise Line's new 700m-long pier at Lighthouse Point on Eleuthera Island. The project cost US$250m and is part of expansion plans to accommodate over one million visitors annually. Cement was sourced through the company’s exports from Puerto Rico between 2022 and 2024.
Panama: Cemex exported 3000t of bagged Ordinary Portland Cement to Jamaica from the Bahía Las Minas Grain Terminal in Colón. Data from the Ministry of Commerce and Industries shows that the company started exporting cement in January 2021 and recorded sales of over US$17m in 2021. In the first two months of 2022 Panama exported OPC to countries including Jamaica, the Bahamas, Guyana, Bonaire, Cuba and Curaçao.
Dominican Republic: Alejandro Ramirez Cantu has been appointed as the president of Cemex Dominican Republic. Ramirez succeeds Carlos Emilio Gonzalez, who has held the position since 2011, according to the Diario Libre newspaper. Ramirez will also be responsible for the operations of Cemex in Bahamas and Haiti. He has worked for the building materials producer since 2000, managing operations in Thailand, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica.
Cemex bags massive contract in Bahamas
16 January 2012Bahamas: The Mexican cement giant Cemex has been announced as the primary cement supplier for the Baha Mar tourist complex in Cable Beach, Nassau, Bahamas that is being built by CCA Bahamas Limited. It is expected that the complex will house the largest entertainment centre in the Caribbean and be completed by December 2014.
"This important project, which will generate many construction jobs, gives us great satisfaction because it will contribute to improving the quality of life of many people, which is in line with Cemex's objective of generating wellbeing through quality building solutions," said Carlos González, president of Cemex in the Bahamas.
As the primary supplier, Cemex will provide 110,000t of cement for the first phase of the project, which is currently being built on an area of 1000 acres.
