Flying Cement CEO Agha Humayun Khan dies
01 October 2025Pakistan: Flying Cement says that its CEO Agha Humayun Khan died on 22 September 2025. Khan had been in post since 2006. It described him as a “distinguished leader” and said that “his contribution to Flying Cement Company was significant.” He was reappointed as CEO for three months in May 2025. The cement company has started proceedings to appoint his successor.
Türkçimento chair Fatih Yücelik dies
03 September 2025Türkiye: Fatih Yücelik, the chair of the Turkish Cement Manufacturers' Association (Türkçimento) and the CEO of Aşkale Çimento, has died at the age of 46. He was reportedly involved in a road traffic accident, according to the Hürriyet newspaper.
Yücelik worked as a senior executive in the construction sector. He was also the vice chair of the board of directors and chair of the executive board of Erçimsan Holding. He held a number of positions with non-governmental organisations, including that of Eastern Anatolian Honorary Consul to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, deputy chairman of the board of directors of Cement Industry Employers' Union (ÇEİS) and as a board member of Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK).
Zambia: Chilanga Cement says that Nason Kasoma, the Deputy Plant Manager of its Ndola cement plant, has died in a road traffic accident. He had been in post since the start of 2022. Kasoma had worked at the Ndola plant for Chilanga Cement and Lafarge Cement Zambia in a variety of maintenance and operations roles from the late 1990s.
Death of Egyptian Cement Group’s Tareq Samaha reported
05 March 2025Egypt: Tareq Samaha, the CEO of Egyptian Cement Group (ECG), has died. In a post on LinkedIn ECG said that he had “…passed away after a long career of giving and achievements in the field of cement industry.”
Tareq Samaha became the CEO of Egyptian Cement Group in 2018. Earlier in his career he was the Commercial Director for RAK White Cement in the UAE from 2006 to 2016. Before this he worked as the Trade Manager (cementitious products) for Heidelberg Materials Trading from 2003 to 2006. He also held roles with Al Jeri Transportation, Emirates Steel Arkan and Sika during his career. He was a graduate in architecture from Ain Shams University in Cairo.
Turkish cement sector personnel reported dead in ski resort fire
22 January 2025Türkiye: Two members of the cement sector have reportedly died in a fire at the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center. Aysemin Elif Dogan, Mehmet Cem Dogan and their daughter perished in the incident, according to posts by their employers on LinkedIn. 76 people have so far reported to have been killed.
Aysemin Elif Dogan was the R&D and Quality Director for Baştaş Çimento, a subsidiary of France-based Vicat.
Mehmet Cem Dogan had been the plant manager of OYAK Çimento’s Bolu plant in Caydurt since 2023. Prior to this he was the manager of a plant in Ankara. Dogan previously worked for Vicat’s subsidiary Baştaş Çimento and Cimpor in process engineering and production management roles.
Deadly disaster at Penna Cement’s Yadiki cement plant
24 December 2024India: One person has died and five sustained injuries in a disaster at Adani Group subsidiary Penna Cement’s Yadiki cement plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur District. The Hindu newspaper has reported that an incident of an unspecified nature occurred on the night of 18 December 2024.
Anantapur’s Industrial Safety Committee is compiling a report for the district collector, who may take action against any party at fault.
Cuba: A ‘materials spill’ at Cementos Cienfuegos’ Carlos Marx cement plant in Guabairo on 27 August 2024 resulted in the death of one worker and injuries to five others. General manager Ernesto Gálvez said that a filter in the plant’s Kiln 3 collapsed, leading to the spillage of hot material from a hopper. Granma News has reported that Raymundo Narciso Sarría, an employee of contractor Empresa de Construcciones Ingenieras No. 6, died, while one other worker is in a critical condition, two in a serious or very serious condition and two others in a less serious condition.
Death reported at cement plant in Madhya Pradesh
29 August 2024India: The family of worker Rajaram Kushwaha has reported that he died after being taken to hospital for injuries sustained while working at a cement plant near Maihar, Maharashtra. The Free Press Journal newspaper has reported that Kushwaha’s family has requested that police lodge a freedom of information request of plant management into the circumstances of the ‘mysterious’ tragedy.
India: A boiler explosion at UltraTech Cement’s Jaggaiahapet cement plant has reportedly killed two people. Venkatesh Avula and Arjun Paritala were working at the plant on the afternoon of 7 July 2024 when the disaster occurred. The New Indian Express newspaper has reported that 14 others workers sustained serious injuries.
District Collector Srijana Gummalla said that a preliminary inquiry indicated the cause of the blast to be a gas leak due to high pressure. She said “A detailed probe has been launched to ascertain the reasons behind the incident. Officials will carry out a thorough investigation and submit the report. Based on the report, necessary action will be taken against the factory management.”
Worker dies at UltraTech Cement’s Manawar plant
19 June 2024India: A worker has died after being caught in a belt at Ultratech Cement’s Manawar cement plant in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar District on the morning of 17 June 2024. Local press reported that 30-year-old Tikam Singh succumbed to his injuries after becoming trapped in the equipment. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
